This medication is FDA‑approved for use alongside a behavior modification plan to help reduce anxiety‑related behaviors and support calmer, more receptive responses during training. The tablets are highly palatable and available in multiple strengths for accurate weight‑based dosing. Reconcile requires a prescription from your veterinarian.

- Supports training success by helping dogs become more receptive to behavior‑modification programs.
- Once‑daily flavored chewable, designed for easy, stress‑free administration.
- Reduces stress for both dogs and owners, helping strengthen the human‑animal bond.
- Clinically proven safe and effective for treating canine separation anxiety under veterinary guidance.
How does Reconcile (fluoxetine hydrochloride) work?
Fluoxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that blocks serotonin reabsorption at presynaptic neurons, increasing serotonin availability in the brain. The resulting serotonergic balance reduces anxiety and makes dogs more receptive to behavior‑modification training.
Caution:
Reconcile is not recommended for the treatment of aggression. It has not been tested in the treatment of other behavioral disorders. Studies to determine the effects of Reconcile Chewable Tablets in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs and in puppies under 6 months of age have not been conducted.
How should I store this product?
Store in a cool, dry place at 20–25°C (68–77°F). Excursions permitted between 15–30°C (59–86°F). Do not remove desiccant from the bottle. Completely close bottle between uses.
What is the most important information I should know about Reconcile (fluoxetine hydrochloride)?
This is a chewable tablet used alongside a behavior modification plan to treat separation anxiety in dogs. It works by increasing serotonin levels in the brain to help your dog stay calm when left alone. It requires a prescription from your veterinarian, and is available in 8 mg, 32 mg, and 64 mg strengths. Reconcile does not act as a sedative.
What should I discuss with my veterinarian before giving Reconcile (fluoxetine hydrochloride) to my pet?
Tell your veterinarian of your dog's complete health history, training history, and home environment. Tell them if you are giving your pet any other medications or supplements. You should discuss if your dog has a history of seizures, as the drug can lower the seizure threshold. Inform your veterinarian if your dog is aggressive, as the medication is not recommended for the treatment of aggression. You should also discuss if your dog is intended for breeding, pregnant, or nursing, or if the dog is less than 6 months of age, as safety has not been evaluated in these populations.
How should Reconcile (fluoxetine hydrochloride) be given/administered?
This medication should be given orally once daily at the dose recommended by your veterinarian. The tablets are flavored and can be given with or without food. Give Reconcile exactly as directed by your veterinarian. If you do not understand the directions, ask the pharmacist or veterinarian to explain them to you.
What are the potential side effects of Reconcile (fluoxetine hydrochloride)?
When taking Reconcile, some dogs may appear more calm or lethargic. Other side effects include decreased appetite, vomiting, shaking or shivering, diarrhea, restlessness, excessive vocalization or whining, aggression, ear infection, disorientation, incoordination, constipation, excessive salivation, and weight loss.
What happens if I miss giving a dose of Reconcile (fluoxetine hydrochloride)?
If a dose is missed, you should give the next scheduled dose as prescribed. Do not increase or double the dose to make up for the missed one.
What happens if I overdose my pet on Reconcile (fluoxetine hydrochloride)?
Contact your veterinarian immediately or the nearest vet hospital. You can also contact ASPCA 24/7 Poison Control Hotline at 888-426-4435 or the Pet Poison Helpline at 855-764-7661. Overdosage in dogs can lead to seizures, extreme sleepiness, nausea, or vomiting.
What special precautions are there?
It is not necessary to taper the dose when stopping therapy due to the long half-life of the drug. A 6-week washout period is required after stopping Reconcile® before starting any other drugs that may interact with it.
What should I avoid while giving Reconcile (fluoxetine hydrochloride) to my pet?
Avoid using this drug without a concurrent behavior modification plan, as the medication alone may not provide lasting benefits. Avoid giving Reconcile® alongside other drugs that lower the seizure threshold, such as acepromazine.
What other drugs will affect Reconcile (fluoxetine hydrochloride)?
This medication can be affected by drugs that involve the cytochrome P450 enzyme system, such as ketoconazole. Caution is also required if using tricyclic antidepressants (like amitriptyline or clomipramine), as these interactions have not been fully studied.
