About this product

What is Levetiracetam Oral Solution?

Levetiracetam Oral Solution is an anticonvulsant medication that treats seizures in dogs and cats. It can be used by itself or with other anticonvulsant medications. Levetiracetam Oral Solution is in certain cases safer for pets to use than other anticonvulsant medications because it passes through the urine instead of being broken down by the liver or metabolized by the kidneys. Levetiracetam Oral Solution requires a prescription from your veterinarian. Levetiracetam Oral Solution is a clear, colorless, grape-flavored liquid.

For:

Dogs and Cats

Benefits:

  • Treats seizures in dogs and cats
  • Can be used by itself or with other anticonvulsant medications
  • Passes through the urine instead of being broken down by the liver or metabolized by the kidneys
  • Easy to give liquid formula

How does Levetiracetam Oral Solution work?

Levetiracetam Oral Solution decreases abnormal excitement in nerves in the brain and as a result, reduces seizures.

Cautions:

Even though Levetiracetam Oral Solution isn't metabolized by the kidneys, use with caution in pets that have kidney disease. The dosage may have to be reduced as a result. Do not stop giving Levetiracetam Oral Solution suddenly unless directed by your veterinarian. Suddenly stopping dosages can result in your pet experiencing a seizure. has value but not perfect
I have been using this for about a year but stopped fora few months. My pom has had seizures since i got her at 4 monthsold. They were almost every night. Not terrible ones, more like spazams.(the doctors call it epilipsy because it comes in clusters. My vet started her on Keppra but a high dosage. Worked for a while then graduated to not helping at all so we weened her off. After trying everything else even hollistic, i went back to Keppra. I have her on lower dosage and have to use diazapam (low dosage) when they continue one after the other. The Keppra eases them. I will continue. Grateful for anything that helps that is not too toxic. I think this is a better option than the ones the vets recommend. They do liver damage and affect the nature of the dog. I hope this continues to work out. I pray

Excellent value
My kitty takes this medicine 3 times a day. He is really good about it which is great. Pet Meds charges a great rate for this, which is really important because of how much we go through. They ship quickly and reliably. I would recommend to anyone! The only weird thing is they usually send a small treat with the meds, but it's always a dog biscuit...and the medicine is for my cat. LOL

Great Value for Cost and Ease of Use!
I adopted my Yorkie-Pom at her age of 8, and discovered she has seizures from suspected liver shunt. The vet recommended Levitracetam and expensive low protein prescription kibble. I tried it for about 6 mos but it was so stinky that I decided to try high quality no grain kibble along with her medication wrapped in quality cheese. It worked well but she's now 15 and this past year she began rejecting the cheese wrap. I moved on to hamburger, then chicken, and not only was it more difficult to prepare and disguise with a pill but I couldn't get the amount of wrap to be consistent, the pill would get wet, dissolve, taste bad, and she would discover it, reject it and sometimes get diarrhea. I had also tried canned food throughout years but she would have diarrhea. I finally decided to try Nutro small packets wet food and a liquid medication for disbursement and disguise. Hallelujah! The flavor of Nutro is good (I tasted the broth!) and also covers the bitterness of the medication. I'm giving her these two, plus a mushroom complex for immunity enhancement. It's been a week and no rejection or diarrhea!!! My life has greatly improved and so has hers. Firm poops, no seizures, no diarrhea, easy to prep!! The liquid is easy to measure and mix and the cost is reasonable!! I highly recommend it over pills!!! I'm very thankful to PetMeds for the supply!!
