Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad reaction My dog unfortunately had a bad reaction to this med. Twenty minutes after giving her the dosage recommended by her vet she began to stumble around and panicking. Her back legs became weak and half of the muscles in her face became droopy and the other side was pulled back tight. She refused to just settle down and sleep and she became ravenous. It took about 5 hours for her to finally start to relax after the meds wore off. I told her vet and apparently some dogs have an opposite reaction to this med.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Traveling Cross-country GSD 2 yr old female GSD that freaks being in vehicle for more than 10 minutes. This Rx took her anxiety away on a 3,000 mile trek. Relaxed, sleepy, chill are words that best describe how she was. No loss of appetite and no side effects. Refilling Rx for ride back!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from helped a lot I adopted a 10yr old german shepherd. She was not settling in well and had clear signs of anxiety. After medication she is so much calmer and is able to actually eat and rest instead of pacing around wimpering and being overall unsettled.

Does the effectiveness of trazodone become reduced over time such that it will eventually be ineffective for my dog or require higher dosages to have the same effect? Also, are there any long term health issues if taken over years?

Asked by: Tony V
Trazodone is considered safe to use on a chronic basis. Contact your veterinarian if you suspect tolerance as it is not commonly associated.
