Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! How long do I use the oniment?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, dispense mechanism wasteful I have used the product for several years to help our numerous barn cats. The product works great once you get the hang of holding the cat and administering the product at the same time. I have found the product to come out of the unevenly (human error I am sure) which requires spreading the medicine. My negative issue is the frequency the tube dispenses ointment upon removing the lid or after application, even when I am careful . I feel a significant amount of medication is wasted. I prefer drops but since this is prescription free I will continue to use it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick relief for my dog My Golden developed an eye infection so I first tried flushing it with an eye wash for a couple of days but the weeping and redness were only marginally reduced. The Terramycin cleared up her eyes in just a few days. I'm only glad that she's cooperative and trusting because letting me place this in her eyes was definitely a learned skill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Miracle worker This was my last hope. It proved to be the thing Milo needed. I tried saline wash, vitamins, and quarantine. His eye was extremely getting worse. It began to swell and eventually he popped I guess a blood vessel. Once, I received this ointment I washed the eye out and put it in. I did this 2 times a day for 5 days with a wellness cone on. Just after the second day he began to open his eye and wanted to play. The redness, goopy look, clouded vision and swelling is all gone. He has made a 100% turnaround.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy cat and roommate This stuff works great. Our orange tabby was always having gooky eye discharge that would dry and crust on his eyes. Not sure if it was allergies or infection. Starting using this and within two days a significant improvement was seen. After using twice daily for a week his eyes are all cleared up and look great. My handsome ginger is happy.

Brand Name:

Generic Name:

Oxytetracycline HCl, Polymyxin B sulfate

What should I discuss with my veterinarian before using Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment on my pet?

Tell your veterinarian if your pet is allergic to Polymyxin B, oxytetracycline, tetracycline, or doxycycline.

What is the most important information I should know about Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment?

Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment is FDA-approved for veterinary use in dogs, cats, and horses. Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment is available over-the-counter, except in California where it requires a prescription. Terramycin is available as a sterile eye ointment. The sterile ointment is usually applied as a thin film to the inside of the eyelid 2 to 4 times a day. Contact your veterinarian if your pet's symptoms begin to get worse or if you do not see any improvement to your pet's condition after a few days. Do not touch the tube opening to any surface, including eyes and hands. The tube opening is sterile. If it becomes contaminated, it could cause an infection in the eye.

What should I avoid while applying Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment to my pet?

Do not touch the tube opening to any surface including eyes or hands. This medication may cause blurred vision. Avoid using other eye medications unless approved by your veterinarian. Prolonged use of this medication may result in a more serious bacterial or fungal infection.

What are the possible side effects of Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment?

Serious side effects are not expected. Some stinging may occur. Fatal allergic reactions in cats may occur. Contact your veterinarian or veterinary emergency room immediately if your cat has swelling of the face, itching, or appears to have difficulty breathing. Talk to your veterinarian about any other side effects that seems unusual or bothersome to your pet.

NOTE: The use of oxytetracycline and other antibiotics may result in an overgrowth of resistant organisms such as Monilia, staphylococci, and other species of bacteria. If new infections due to nonsensitive bacteria or fungi appear during therapy, appropriate measures should be taken.

What other drugs will affect Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment?

Before using Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment, tell your veterinarian if your pet is using other eye medications. Drugs other than those listed may also interact with Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment. Talk to your veterinarian or pharmacist before giving any prescription or over-the-counter medicines.
