It works and dog eats it
I hated using topicals because my dogs loves to shake it off immediately so pills are the only way I can ensure my pups are protected. With this stuff, gone are the battles of trying to get my dogs to eat their heartworm/flea meds. With other brands pills, I tried everything from wrapping them in bacon, peanut butter, mixing with cheese or slicing them up and mixing in their everyday food. Somehow they always manage to eat around them or spit out the pills. NOT with Simparico! My dogs eat it immediately and seem to enjoy it! Yes, it is expensive but it works and it is painless to apply. Love it.

Mild Side Effects
This made my dog's stools pretty loose for a couple days after each dose. Nothing severe or unusual frequency but very loose. We could live with it but, since she has only been with us for 6 months I think it is worth trying a different brand to find what is best for her. This is my first experience with flea/tick medication in pill form, and I really want it to work, so I'm going back to 2 different products (with a heartworm brand she had previously), to isolate the problem and see if all the oral flea/tick meds will do that to her or whether there is a better outcome. I don't mind giving 2 pills if her system reacts less negatively to it. That being said, she loves to lay in the mulch & brush watching the squirrels so the product worked very well.

Awesome
Pricey BUT works the best and I have been through them all with my two dogs. Some of the chewables have made them sick and hard for them to like them to chew. Not Simparica. I'm very satisfied my Vet recommended this. I pick up any coupons and rebates I can.

Dog actually eats this!
In case your dog is like my two who only will eat chews and that’s if they taste like actual chicken which is a pain because most of the time nothing ever does this is an actual tablet/pill that my pickiest dog actually sat down and chewed right up and swallowed. This is so far perfect!

Considering it's one pill for everything - easier than multi dosing. Our Shih Tzu won't eat it, so we wrap it in cheese. That works.

Kills Ticks
We live in western North Carolina where it rains ticks. This is the only thing that works. We tried topicals and flea and tick collars and the are useless. It is very expensive, but with the Pet Meds discount and an additional $25 manufacturers vet rebate on the next visit I think I can get the six month cost down to $105 for a 30 lbs dog. The first package purchased from the office cost $155. I previously used Sentinel Plus that has no tick protection and is marginal for fleas. If ticks aren’t your problem you can get something else for a third the cost. Subtracted one star for cost.

What is Simparica TRIO?

Simparica TRIO is a monthly chewable tablet that protects your dog against heartworm disease, five types of ticks, fleas, roundworms and hookworms. It has been demonstrated to be safe for puppies as young as 8 weeks old weighing 2.8 pounds or more. Simparica TRIO requires a prescription from your veterinarian.

For:

Dogs and Puppies (8 weeks of age or older, weighing 2.8 lbs or more)

Benefits:

  • Protects dogs against heartworm disease, ticks & fleas, roundworms & hookworms
  • Tasty chewable that dogs love
  • Convenient, once-a-month dosing

How does Simparica TRIO work?

Simparica TRIO contains three active pharmaceutical ingredients, sarolaner, moxidectin, and pyrantel pamoate. Sarolaner is an acaricide and insecticide belonging to the isoxazoline group. Sarolaner inhibits the function of the neurotransmitter gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor and glutamate receptor, and works at the neuromuscular junction in insects. This results in uncontrolled neuromuscular activity leading to death in insects or acarines. Moxidectin is an endectocide in the macrocyclic lactone class. Moxidectin acts by interfering with the chloride channel-mediated neurotransmission in the parasite. This results in paralysis and death of the parasite. Pyrantel pamoate is a nematocide belonging to the tetrahydropyrimidine class. Pyrantel acts as a depolarizing, neuromuscular-blocking agent in susceptible parasites, which causes paralysis and death or expulsion of the organism.

Compare the labels of other products to Simparica Trio

Cautions:

Sarolaner, one of the ingredients in Simparica TRIO, is a member of the isoxazoline class. This class has been associated with neurologic adverse reactions including tremors, ataxia, and seizures. Seizures have been reported in dogs receiving isoxazoline class drugs, even in dogs without a history of seizures. Use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures or neurologic disorders.
Prior to administration of Simparica TRIO, dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infections. Infected dogs should be treated with an adulticide to remove adult heartworms. Simparica TRIO is not effective against adult D. immitis. The safe use of Simparica TRIO has not been evaluated in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs.

Didn’t prevent hookworm in my dog
This is a very expensive product. My dog was taking it as prescribed, but still acquired hookworm which took prescription medication to eradicate

Cost effective

QUESTION
My vet says they will no longer submit a prescription to petmeds, so they can keep the business in house. Vet is located in NJ. Is there any standing to this? I'd rather order through PetMeds but I cannot leave our Vet to do so.
ANSWERS (1)
New Jersey Administrative Code Section 13:44-4.1(e) states that a veterinarian shall upon request, provide a written prescription to a consumer who does not wish to purchase a prescription item directly from that veterinarian. Please mail the original hand signed prescription to our pharmacy at 1441 South Congress Ave Suite 100, Delray Beach, FL 33445 Attn: Pharmacy. Please include your order number with the prescription. Upon receiving the prescription the order will ship. Please do not attempt to fax or email or send a photocopy of the prescription as only the original hand signed version can be accepted. Please contact Customer Service with any questions.

QUESTION
Does Autoship require a new prescription each time?
ANSWERS (2)
WHY is a script necessary? Vet gives dog meds, so OBVIOUSLY owners will continue. Just another way to gouge pet owners !!

If the prescription has refills available a new prescription will not be required. If the prescription does not have refills then a new approval will need to be obtained from your pets veterinarian. Autoship is a service that helps to generate an order when the prescriptions are due to be filled while adhering to pharmacy regulations.
