How does Seresto work?
The flea and tick collar releases the two active ingredients in low doses over an extended period of time. The ingredients are then absorbed through the fatty layer of your pet's skin and distributed throughout your pet's body to protect against fleas and ticks for eight months. Seresto can be worn alongside your pet's regular collar. No matter if you have a cat or a dog, the collars come with a ratchet release mechanism that releases when your pet is under pressure, which enables your pet to free himself or herself. It also has a pre-determined breaking point if your pet's head and neck get trapped, which allows your pet's strength to break the collar and get out of a dangerous situation.
The collar should not be used on puppies younger than seven weeks old or on kittens younger than ten weeks old. If ticks are present on your pet when the collar is applied, they will not die within the first forty-eight hours and should be removed manually. If your dog or cat shows any sign of skin irritation or other reaction to the collar, remove immediately and consult your veterinarian.
Do not allow children to play with collar or reflectors, or to put them in their mouths. Avoid contact with eyes, skin or clothing. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after fitting the collar. People with sensitivity reactions to the ingredients of the collar should avoid contact with the collar. Choking hazard. Contains small parts. Do not place reflectors in mouth. Not intended for use on humans.

Do Your Research First
I can't tell you if the medications in this collar caused numerous reactive side effects with my dog or not. I am not a medical professional. All I can do is tell you my story and the changes I saw with my dog after the collar was put on. I also want to encourage anyone to research all medications and their potential side effects first before administering. I failed to do this.... Similar to WebMd for humans, pet medications can be looked up on PetMd. Now my story. I purchased this collar not even thinking that my dog could experience side effects. I was wrong. She is small, only 6 pounds which may be a factor and over 10 years of age. While I don't know if the drugs in this collar caused any of her issues....I can tell you that non of her problems were present prior to the collar. Her first symptom was pretty immediate and began with the need to constantly scratch. Within two weeks, she was drinking so excessively I had her tested for diabetes which came back negative. Her constant itching turned into raise scabby lesions all over the top of her head and neck area. She lost her appetite. Her coordination was gone. She walked like she was drunk and would fall over. Then she acquired a UT infection. After hundreds of dollars in testing, her vet could see her kidney's were compromised. I don't know what made me think to research the ingredients of this collar, but when I did...I saw that every single side effect was something my dog was experiencing. I immediately took the collar off. Within a week, her drinking is back to normal. Her itching has virtually stopped. The scabby lesions while still there, are slowing disappearing. She is eating again. Her coordination is completely back on track. Her pep is back in her step. Sadly, it is taking more then one week to clear up her kidney and bladder infection which I am certain is directly related to poisonous toxins exiting her body via her kidneys and bladder. While I cannot say this collar is the cause of any of the above issues, I can tell you that now that the collar is off, all the mentioned problems have reversed or are exponentially better. Many dogs may not have any symptoms or problems. And your dog may be one of these fortunate pups. My other dog who is much larger, only experienced the constant itching and drinking. She had no other side effects. But, I still took off her collar as well. This story is to simply to encourage buyers to do the research first before putting administering any drug to their dog or cat. The convenience in the application of this collar is simply not worth the potential risks and side effects. You be the judge.

I’m giving this collar 3 stars because as it does work for fleas etc...it however is a pain because I have to constantly check it for fit on my 15 month old female boxer. Today I found that she had manage to get hers off while crated (had to leave for an hour) and ate half of it. I bought the collars after deciding trying to give them pills or topical wasn’t doable plus very costly and now I have to decide to buy a new collar or spend several hundred on a pill or topical for both my boxers. This collar should have a taste added that is disliked by animals.

When nothing else worked
I had horrible fleas when I moved into a new apartment. None of the topicals were working for my kitty. He has very long hair and every night I was finding 20+ fleas on him after multiple applications, flea combs, and dawn baths. I tried sprays for in the house and these fleas weren't budging. I did some research and came across this collar. It saved my sanity. The fleas began to lessen after a day and all were gone within 3 days. I haven't seen one since! I was skeptical how well this would work with his fur length and size, he's a big 15 lb boy, but its really been great.

We tried this collar for the first time 8 months ago and have just purchased our second one. We have not found a tick or flea on the dog. It is much better and easier than the liquid stuff running down their back!

No mess, easy
This is my 3rd collar. Last 2 didn’t seem to last as long as 1st collar. My pup is skittish and I can’t use the topical so the collar is great for that reason. However, she did pick up several ticks over the summer while wearing the collar. They did not seem to bite her but were stuck on and dead. Recently I was very disappointed to find her infested with fleas after being around dogs that had fleas. (I was unaware the other dogs had fleas). Had to buy oral flea med to kill the fleas and she had to take for 6 days. Seems to have worked but a nightmare cleaning every inch of my house to make sure there’s no flea larvae.
