Didn't work on small dogs
I bought some Flea5X Plus last year and rarely would see a flea on my small dogs, but I just bought more for the year and even after two days and now going on two weeks after application, I see fleas on them and they're scratching like they never have before. I didn't skip a dose. Did they change the formula?

Makes Dog Anxious After Application
My 13 yr old, 100 lb, lab/shepherd mix is a pretty resilient dog and has received Frontline many times with no issues. An hour or so after applying this generic product, he started panting noticeably more than normal and keeps coming to me like he wants to go out, then coming back in, being unusually "needy" and unable to settle down. This reminded me of a separate incident using a different generic, OTC, topical flea repellent on my brother's dog, and in that case the dog became so anxious we had to give him diphenhydramine (in case it was an allergic reaction) and a bath to get as much of the solution off as we could. These generic medications seem to cause different reactions, perhaps related to the "inactive" ingredients? I've not had any reason to believe they won't work similarly to kill fleas, but I'm not willing to give my dog panic attacks or possibly worse side-effects so will go back to the name brand and throw away my remaining doses of this one. That obviously erases any cost savings of the generic and creates so much more risk and worry... it just isn't worth it to me. That said, I've not heard of any cases of more extreme outcomes, so perhaps checking with your vet and watching your dog carefully after application is an acceptable balance for owners and their pets that aren't having these reactions.

How does your brand compare of flea treatment compare to Advantage for cats. It does not have the same ingredients as Advantage. What’s the difference between the 2 with their ingredients?
ANSWERS (1)
Thank you for your question. Flea 5x Plus is a generic to Frontline Plus this just means it has the same active ingredient only. The other ingredient's will not be the same only the " active ingredient" which is Fipronil and (S)-methoprene.

QUESTION
How does your brand compare of flea treatment compare to Advantage for cats. It does not have the same ingredients as Advantage. What’s the difference between the 2 with their ingredients?
ANSWERS (1)
Thank you for your question. Flea5X Plus is a monthly topical flea and tick preventative for dogs and cats over 8 weeks of age. Flea5X Plus contains fipronil to quickly kill adult fleas, ticks and chewing lice on your pet. Flea5X Plus also contains (S)-methoprene, an insect growth regulator that kills flea eggs and larvae to help end the flea life cycle. In addition to killing adult fleas and preventing reinfestation, Flea5X Plus is effective against ticks such as the brown dog tick, the American dog tick, the lone star tick and the deer tick, including those that may transmit Lyme disease. Advantage II is a monthly flea preventative for dogs and cats that offers comprehensive flea protection by killing adult fleas, larvae, and eggs. Plus, it kills fleas through contact, which means fleas don't have to bite your pet to die.
