What is a Compounded Medication?

A compounded medication is the creation of a particular medication to fit the unique needs of a patient, including changing the form of the medication (e.g., from a solid pill to a liquid) for a variety reasons (e.g., to make it easier to take, to avoid a non-essential ingredient, to obtain the exact dose needed, adding favorite flavors).

If you are having difficulty giving your pet prescribed medication or need to find a discontinued medication, 1-800-PetMeds offers compounding services on select medications. We can prepare the following: (1) custom strength quantities of a medication (as capsules, liquid, chewable tablets, or transdermal (absorbed through the skin); (2) dosage forms to mask bitter or unpleasant taste (such as capsules or chewable tablets that can also be flavored); (3) dosage forms to make it easier to dose your pet such as a transdermal or liquid (that can also be flavored); and (4) discontinued products such as cisapride or DES.

DMSO Liquid Solution for Pets is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used on horses This is a great product for horses! I have used many years for retired horses and it makes their daily lives much easier. Use on working horses should only be used during rest and healing time. This has been a great product for many years in our family

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My poor lab was in pain and overweight At 9 years old he could hardly walk much less make it up and down the steps and his weight exceeded 140lbs. We finally tried DMSO and I can honestly say he was getting around like a puppy again, not to mention his weight is off and at the age of 13 he is still going strong. Thank God because I could not imagine life without him!

Since I have to wear gloves when applying this to my dog, when is it safe to actually pet my dog?

Asked by: aimee
I would suspect it's ok to pet your dog after 15-20 minutes (after the topical has had time to be absorbed.)

I was told to put a few drops on and gently rub in. Do I do this with bare handed or with gloves, won't it eat thru the gloves?? What if he licks it??

Asked by: Vinnys mom
Always wear gloves when applying DMSO Liquid Solution for Pets. You may want to get a cone collar for your furry baby to prevent licking.
