Benefits:
  • Starts killing fleas in 30 minutes
  • Kills 98-100% of fleas within 12 hours
  • Continues to kill fleas for a full month after application
  • Easy-to-use, non-greasy topical solution
  • Gentle on cats and kittens 8 weeks of age and older
How it Works:

Cheristin for Cats contains spinetoram, a mild insecticide that provides fast-acting flea protection just for cats. The topical treatment starts killing fleas in 30 minutes, and kills 98-100% of fleas within 12 hours. Plus, it continues to protect your cat and control flea infestation for a full month.

Brand Name:

Cheristin for Cats

Manufacturer:

Elanco

Active Ingredient(s):

Spinetoram (11.2%)

What is this product used for:

Cheristin for Cats contains spinetoram, an insecticide that kills fleas on contact by targeting the fleas' nervous systems, resulting in paralysis and rapid death.

Availability:

Cheristin for Cats is a non-prescription product.

How this product should be used:

Remove one applicator tube from the blister package. Hold applicator tube in an upright position. Press cap down until it clicks (indicating the tube has been punctured). Hold upright and remove cap. Check to be sure there is an opening at the tip of tube. Part the hair on the neck at the base of the head until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the tube directly above the skin and squeeze the tube 2-4 times to expel the contents of the tube directly on the skin. Avoid getting the product in your pet's eyes or mouth. Treatment at the base of the head will minimize the opportunity for the cat to directly lick the product. (There may be a small residual remaining in the tube after a full dose is expelled.) Discard empty applicator tube in the trash.

What are the side effects:

Monitor your cat after application. Side effects may include signs of application site reactions such as application site hair loss, hair change (greasy, clumping or matting) of redness, inflammation and itching. Other side effects such as inactivity, vomiting and inappetence have also been reported. If these or any other side effects occur, consult your veterinarian, your cat's healthcare expert. For technical support, contact Elanco at 1-888-545-5973.

Customer Reviews
Cheristin For Cats is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 73.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 1800PetMeds is the best They included a very generous bag of catnip with my order. This was really awesome as this amount in the store would have been at least $4. Lowest price for Cherstin I could find. Really quick shipping as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Riley and brother Rosco agree it works. Have been using this product for awhile now because my cats became allergic to the flea meds I was using on them. Am very satisfied with the results. My cats No longer break out from their flea meds.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty Good Both my cats are Persian. Still are finding a few fleas on them. But I think it is because of their long hair. Maybe the fleas aren't biting just jumping on the hair. They seem so more more relaxed and are not constantly scratching.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked fast and effectively My cats were using Frontline, but I guess they became resistant. When Spring hit, despite being indoor-only cats and on Frontline, we had a big flea problem. At my vet's recommendation, we switched to Cheristin. I was pleasantly surprised with how quickly it started to work! After the first day most of the fleas were dead. Last week I applied their 3rd dose, and it's been weeks since I've seen a flea. I'm so happy with how effectively this has taken care of our flea issue. Plus, the price is great! It's slightly more expensive than the Frontline I was purchasing, but I get twice as much medicine. With 3 cats, it's all about finding an effective treatment for a low price, and Cheristin is definitely that!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cheristin for cat works on fleas I had used Sereto cat collar and Advantage II this spring on my 17 year old kitty but this year in Bay Area/SF neither has worked in eradicating fleas as in the past. (The fleas have developed a resistance?) A vet gave my 17 year old MC/mix Cheristin a month treatment and it seems to clear up the "problem" with fleas. I will try it a second month and keep my eye on my kitty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This works in S C for sand fleas I moved to SC 3 yrs ago and was using a well known brand on my ragdoll but she got infested with sand fleas! My vet told me that cheristin is the only one that will work on sand fleas here, Finally her beautiful coat came back fuller than ever and no scratching! I have been putting this on once a month ever since and will continue forever! This really works, easy to apply and my Annie does not mind the application, will never be without this! Annie is a 15 yr old female ragdoll!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works better than Revolution, but my cats were only flea free for two weeks. If I wait two more weeks to give them another dose we'll have a real problem. Not sure what to do now. I wonder if the other reviewers were a little premature in giving the 4-5 star ratings. It did get rid of the fleas quickly but didn't last for a month like it is supposed to, and I agree it's too costly to use more often and probably toxic too (to use more than once per month). I will try Advantage II also since that is what friends use and they think it works great.

Q&A

Is this a clear liquid or a cream

Asked by: Freetoe
The Cheristen for cats comes in a topical liquid form that is applied behind your furry baby's neck.

How long should it take to work. It says 12 hours but it's been 24 and still have live fleas.

Asked by: Linda
You will also want to make sure you are treating all the pets in the environment for fleas. Also ensure that wildlife is not a source for fleas. In severe infestations, you may be seeing small, newly hatched fleas that are getting on your cat for the first time to be killed by the Cheristin. Always give a product at least 3 months of continued use before deciding it isn't working. Cocooned flea larva can survive up to 2 years in ideal environments, such as indoor carpeting and furniture.

Is it water proof? Plus I have kittens who are always cleaning each other. I want to make sure they won't get sick if they lick the application site after it dries. No info on package and asked vet. Nobody could give definite answer.

Asked by: Kish28
We are very sorry, the labeling of this product does not state it is waterproof nor does it state if they will get sick if they lick it.

How long after removing the Seresto collar from my 10 yr old cat, because Seresto caused chemical burns on her neck (note: my other cat has had no adverse reactions to Seresto), should I wait to use Cheristin on her and my other cat?

Asked by: Plantwhisperer
When switching flea preventions it is recommended to wait at least 30 days before using a different one.

I've read about "other" products like Cheristin and they say you CAN use their product on dogs or cats. Why can't Cheristin be used on both?

Asked by: JoAnn36312
Hello JoAnn, There are plenty of other products for fleas that can be used on dogs that may act similar to Cheristin. Cheristin and its ingredients however have only been tested with cats and approved for use on cats only. Hope this helps. Thanks, PetMeds Intern
