The otic solution helps reduce inflammation and pain related to otitis externa. Malmetazone is available in 7.5 gm, 15 gm, and 30 gm dropper bottles and requires a prescription from your veterinarian.
Dogs
Malmetazone Otic Suspension works by preventing the growth and reproduction of susceptible strains of yeast (Malassezia pachydermatis) and bacteria (Pseudomonas spp. including P. aeruginosa, coagulase positive staphylococci, Enterococcus faecalis, Proteus mirabilis, and beta-hemolytic streptococci). It also contains anti-inflammatory agents that help control inflammation and related pain.
For otic use in dogs only. Avoid getting Malmetazone in your dog's eyes, nose or mouth. The use of Malmetazone has been associated with deafness or partial hearing loss in a small number of sensitive dogs (e.g, geriatric). Corticosteroids administered to dogs, rabbits, and rodents during pregnancy have resulted in cleft palate in offspring. Other congenital anomalies including deformed forelegs, phocomelia (congenital deformity in limbs), and anasarca (widespread swelling of the skin) have been reported in offspring of dogs who received corticosteroids during pregnancy.

Gentamixin sulfate, USP; Mometasone Furoate anyhydrous; and clotrimazole,USP
Malmetazone requires a prescription from your veterinarian, and is for otic use in dogs only. It's available in 7.5 gm, 15 gm, and 30 gm dropper bottles. Each gram of Malmetazone contains Gentamicin Sulfate, USP, equivalent to 3 mg gentamicin base, Mometasone Furoate Monohydrate, equivalent to 1 mg mometasone, and Clotrimazole, USP 10 mg, all in a mineral oil-based system containing a plasticized hydrocarbon gel.
Tell your veterinarian if your pet is pregnant, breeding, or lactating. Tell your veterinarian if your dog is hypersensitive to any of the ingredients in Malmetazone or is currently taking other medications, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines and supplements.
Prior to use, make sure to clean and dry the external ear canal and shake the bottle well. The usual dose for dogs under 30 pounds is 4 drops of otic solution into the ear canal once a day. For dogs 30 pounds or more, the usual dose is 8 drops of otic solution into the ear canal once a day. Therapy should continue for 7 consecutive days or as directed by your veterinarian.
The side effects of Malmetazone are related to the individual ingredients. All aminoglycosides, like gentamicin, have the potential to produce reversible and irreversible vestibular, cochlear, and renal toxicity. Mometasone's potential side effects include weight loss, anorexia, polydipsia (excessive thirst), polyuria (excessive urinating), neutrophilia, and lymphopenia.
Give your dog the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing schedule. Do not give your dog a double dose.
If an overdose is suspected, contact your veterinarian. Overdosage may produce adverse immunosuppressive effects.
Avoid applying to dogs that are pregnant, breeding, or lactating. Do not apply to dogs that have a known hypersensitivity to the ingredients of Malmetazone.
Do not use alongside drugs known to induce ototoxicity.
Prior to use, your veterinarian will generally make sure the eardrum is intact and that the treatment continues for at least 7 days. Using this medication for the length of time it was prescribed is important to reduce the risk of antibiotic drug resistance or treatment failure.
