Cimetidine is prescribed for the treatment and prevention of acid reflux disease, stomach inflammation, inflammation of the esophagus, and stomach and intestinal ulcers in cats, dogs, and horses. It is a histamine blocker that reduces excessive stomach acid production so your pet’s stomach and esophagus can heal. It is also sometimes used to help treat histamine release caused by mast cell tumors. Cimetidine is sold by the tablet or in a solution and requires a prescription from your veterinarian.
Dogs, Cats and Horses
Cimetidine works by blocking the histamine H-2 receptor that stimulates stomach acid production, helping to prevent or treat acid reflux, ulcers, or inflammation of the esophagus or stomach.
Stop giving and contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet has bloody or tarry stools or vomit that looks like coffee grounds.
