Apoquel delivers onset of relief within 4 hours. It effectively controls itching within 24 hours. Apoquel requires a prescription from your veterinarian, and is sold per chewable tablet in strengths of 3.6 mg, 5.4 mg, or 16 mg.
Dogs over 12 months in age and weighing more than 6.6 lbs.
Apoquel is a selective janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor, which targets pruritogenic (itch creating) cytokines. It effectively controls itching due to food allergies, flea allergies, contact dermatitis, and atopic dermatitis. Apoquel works to control pruritus for fast-acting relief, and provides significant short-term and long-term reduction of itching and inflammation.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: Do not use Apoquel or Apoquel Chewable in dogs less than 12 months of age or in dogs with skin infections. Apoquel Chewable may increase the chances of developing serious infections, and may cause existing parasitic skin infestations or pre-existing cancers to get worse. Consider the risks and benefits of treatment in dogs with a history of recurrence of these conditions. Clinical studies and post-approval evaluations identified both benign and malignant neoplastic conditions. Apoquel Chewables have not been evaluated for use alongside certain medications, including those frequently prescribed for skin conditions (like corticosteroids and cyclosporine.) Avoid using in dogs that are breeding, pregnant, or nursing. Common side effects include vomiting and diarrhea. Apoquel Chewables can be used safely alongside many common medications such as including parasiticides, antibiotics, topical products for bacterial skin infections, and vaccines.

Apoquel Chewable is used to relieve itching and inflammation caused by a variety of diagnoses, including allergic dermatitis and atopic dermatitis.

The dose of Apoquel Chewables is 0.18 to 0.27 mg/lb of body weight. See Apoquel Chewable Dosage Chart.
Apoquel Chewable may increase susceptibility to infection, including demodicosis. It may also exacerbate neoplastic conditions. Adverse reactions reported in a masked field study included diarrhea, vomiting, anorexia, new cutaneous or subcutaneous lumps, profuse salivation, and lethargy. In most cases, diarrhea, vomiting, anorexia, and lethargy spontaneously resolved with continued dosing. Contact your veterinarian if you see abnormal skin changes, dermal lumps, or growths after your dog has consumed Apoquel.
Give the missed dose with food as soon as you remember and resume a regular dosing schedule.
Contact your veterinarian immediately for medical attention, or visit your closest emergency animal hospital..
Apoquel Chewable should not be given to dogs younger than 12 months or those with serious infections. Apoquel Chewable should not be used in breeding, pregnant or lactating dogs. Apoquel Chewable usage has not been evaluated in combination with glucocorticoids, cyclosporine, or other systemic immunosuppressive agents. Dogs taking Apoquel Chewables should be monitored for any developing harmful side effects and infections, including demodicosis and neoplasia.
Talk to your veterinarian before giving any prescription or over the counter medications.
