Spent grains are a nutritious mixture of the malt's leftover grains that are rich in fiber, proteins, and other nutrients. Annually, brewers waste more than 42 million tons of edible spent grains since companies are not proactively using them in production. By October 2020, Portland Pet Food Company had repurposed 4,350 pounds of spent grains.
