What is MalOtic?

MalOtic is a topical solution/topical ointment meant for the treatment of chronic and acute otitis externa (infection of the outer ear canal) associated with yeast and/or bacteria susceptible to gentamicin. Its formulation is anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and anti-fungal. MalOtic is available in a 15 gm dropper bottle and a 15 gm tube and requires a prescription from your veterinarian.

For:

Dogs

Benefits:

  • Treats chronic and acute otitis externa
  • Anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and anti-fungal
  • Easy to apply

How does MalOtic work?

Gentamicin works by inhibiting the protein synthesis of susceptible bacteria, such as the bacteria commonly found in dog ears. Betamethasone works by reducing the inflammation and itchy feeling in the ear. The anti-fungal agent of MalOtic, Clotrimazole, prevents infections from dividing and growing.

Cautions:

For otic use in dogs only. The use of the ingredients of MalOtic, gentamicin, betamethasone, and clotrimazole, has been associated with deafness or partial hearing loss in a small number of sensitive dogs. The hearing deficit is usually temporary. If hearing or vestibular dysfunction is noted during treatment, stop using MalOtic immediately and thoroughly flush the ear canal with a non-ototoxic solution. Additionally, avoid giving to dogs that are breeding, pregnant, or lactating.

Brand Name:
