Our vet's #1 tip for preventing flea & heartworm infestation is simple:
Be Consistent! Never miss a dose.

Preventing fleas and heartworms from taking hold of your pet and your home is the key to responsible pet parenting. The benefits of flea and heartworm prevention far outweigh the drawbacks in terms of your pet's overall health and well being, as well as the financial implications in the long run.

Getting rid of a full-fledged heartworm infestation is a difficult, lengthy process from which your pet's health can suffer. Heartworm treatment for dogs consists of injections of an arsenic-based medication given slowly over a period of several weeks. If your dog is in poor health, treatment may not even be an option. There is currently no heartworm treatment available for cats.

Flea and heartworm prevention costs literally pennies compared to heartworm treatment and costly repeat visits by a pest control expert to fully rid your home of a flea infestation. By being consistent with flea and heartworm prevention, you can help avoid infestations that could be expensive or even fatal for your pet.

Have your pet tested annually

Even when adhering to the recommended flea & heartworm prevention protocol, it is important to have your pet tested every 12 months for heartworm infestation. It only takes one bite from a heartworm-carrying mosquito to infect your pet. This is why it is recommended that heartworm preventatives be given year-round without missing a dose.

Heartworm prevention once a month

If your pet does not test positive for adult heartworms, your veterinarian will likely prescribe a monthly heartworm preventative.

According to the American Heartworm Society, cases of heartworm disease have been reported year-round in all 50 states. Therefore, it is vital that you give your pet heartworm prevention medication at the same time every month; never skipping a dose.

Flea and heartworm prevention in one

Now with the new combination flea and heartworm preventatives available, using a single product you can safely and effectively protect your pet from both of these health menaces in one easy-to-administer monthly medication. Options for administration include topical drops, tablets and soft chews, so it's easier than ever to make sure your pet is protected against fleas and heartworms each month.

Flea prevention in one monthly dose

Keeping fleas under control is now easier than ever. Once-a-month flea preventatives for cats and dogs are available in a convenient variety of administration options, including topical drops, tablets and soft chews. Consistently making sure your pet is protected against fleas diminishes the chances of infestation in your home.

Vet Tip

Comprehensive monthly flea & heartworm preventatives should be administered year-round. Never miss a dose!
