Vomiting remedies

Vomiting by a pet can be a sign of any number of illnesses. This behavior could be a result of something your pet ate, or in some cases, it could be a symptom of a more serious illness. Regardless of which, you should have your pet checked by your veterinarian to better determine the cause of the vomiting. In the meantime, below are some at-home tips Dr. Michael Dym, VMD recommends when helping a pet that is vomiting:

Supplement your pet's diet with healthy enzymes

Rehydrate your pet
Losing fluids is a quick way for your pet to dehydrate. Dr. Dym recommends taking a pet off solid foods for 24 to 36 hours. During this period you can help your pet stay hydrated by giving fluids such as chicken or vegetable broth. You may also want to introduce small amounts of electrolytes by giving liquids such as Pedialyte or Gatorade.
If your pet is vomiting or experiencing diarrhea for more than a few days, you should immediately see your veterinarian. This is especially important for small and toy breed dogs since they dehydrate much quicker than larger dogs.

Feed a bland diet
If the liquid diet helps to calm down the symptoms, you can introduce solid foods back into your pet's diet. However, these should be bland foods only. Dr. Dym recommends a sweet potato and white turkey meat mixture.
Adding slippery elm, a natural herb found in many health stores, is also helpful in soothing an irritated digestive tract.
