What is VetPen Needles 12mm x 29G?

These fit both the Vetpen 8 and the Vetpen 16 insulin delivery pens, and they're individually wrapped to maintain sterility for convenient and easy use. VetPen requires a prescription from your veterinarian.

How does VetPen Needles 12mm x 29G work?

VetPen uses specifically designed 29G x 12mm needles, which are small, thin, triple-sharpened, and specially lubricated to lower penetration force and minimize pet discomfort. These are the only needles that should be used with VetPen. Always use a new needle for each injection to ensure the needle is sterile and sharp for best results. A blunt or bent needle may cause discomfort for the pet. Dispose of used needles in a suitable sharps/biohazard container.

Cautions:

Do not reuse insulin syringes or VetPen needles. Reuse of any syringe can cause bacterial infection; as well as silicone contamination from the syringe causing a white participate that can interfere with the biological activity of the insulin. The used syringes and VetPen needles should be disposed of appropriately in a sharps/biohazard receptacle.

What is the most important thing I should know about VetPen Needles 12mm x 29G?

One drop at the end of the needle after injection is normal. If the insulin drips actively, it may be a sign that the needle was removed before the injection was completed. First verify if it was just a drop or if it dripped actively. If the latter, you may be removing the VetPen needle from the skin too soon. To make sure your pet receives a complete dose, be sure to press the release button down fully and hold it until the arrow points to the start line on the dose selector. Then, to allow the VetPen to deliver the full dose, wait 5 to 10 seconds before removing the needle from the skin.

How should VetPen Needles 12mm x 29G be given?

VetPen Directions:

Prior to loading Vetsulin cartridges, shake the cartridge until a homogeneous, uniformly milky suspension is obtained. Do not use the product if visible clumps or white particles persist after shaking.
Pull off the VetPen cap and unscrew the VetPen body from the cartridge holder.
Check to ensure that the internal plunger is fully retracted. If it's not retracted, rewind the internal plunger until it is fully retracted.
Load the insulin cartridge into the holder metal cap in first, and screw the cartridge holder firmly onto the VetPen body.
Peel the protective film from a new VetPen Needle, and screw it straight onto the cartridge holder. Remove the outer protective needle cap from the VetPen Needle.
Replace the VetPen cap and shake until a homogeneous, uniformly milky suspension is obtained.
For proper dosing, remove the air from the cartridge (prime) by dialing one unit on the dose selector. Remove the pen cap and hold the VetPen with the needle pointing up. Tap the cartridge gently with your fingers to push up air bubbles. Push and hold the release button. Repeat until the air bubble is gone and insulin drips out of the needle tip.
Turn the dial to the correct unit and inject into your pet 2-5 cm from the dorsal midline, varying from behind the shoulder to the mid-back region and alternating sides. Hold the needle in place for at least 5 seconds after the dial line returns to the arrow during injection to ensure proper and accurate dosage.
