QUESTION
Does this kill tapeworm? Is there a tapeworm med thats not in pill form,my cat will not eat his food he can smell the med
ANSWERS (1)
Thanks for your question. Strongid paste is a medication for horses and it does not kill tapeworm. It is not meant for use in cats. Pills are the most highly recommended treatment for cats with tapeworm. In order to get your cat to take the pill you can place the pill into a Greenie's feline pill pocket, which turns the pill into a tasty treat that your cat will love. We sell these pill products and they are actually on sale right now. If you would still prefer a non-pill treatment, we offer a product called, HomeoPet Wrm Clear, which is a liquid tapeworm medication that can be mixed into your cat's food or administered into his mouth. This liquid medication must be given 3 times daily. Hope this helps!

Each package of Strongid contains 1 oral syringe. For horses up to 300 lbs give 1/4 syringe (5 ml), for horses 301-600 lbs give 1/2 syringe (10 ml), for horses 601-900 lbs give 3/4 syringe (15 ml), and for horses 901-1200 lbs give 1 syringe (20 ml). You would give the product as a single dose and repeat every 3 months as part of a regular deworming program.

1-8 of 9 Questions

What is Strongid Paste?

Strongid Paste is an equine wormer that removes and controls most common and damaging internal parasites including bloodworms, small strongyles, pinworms, and large roundworms.

For:

Horses and foals (2+ months of age)

Benefits:

  • Easy to administer
  • No reported side effects
  • Convenient disposable syringe

How does Strongid Paste work?

Strongid Paste is used for the removal and control of mature infections of large strongyles (Strongylus vulgaris, S. edentatus, S. equinus); small strongyles, pinworms (Oxyuris equi), and large roundworms (Parascaris equorum) in horses and ponies. Consult your veterinarian for assistance in the diagnosis, treatment, and control of parasitism. The active ingredient pyrantel pamoate acts as a depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent, thereby causing sudden muscular contraction, followed by paralysis of the parasite. The parasite loses its grip on the intestinal wall and passes out of the system naturally.

Cautions:

Use with caution in severely debilitated pets. Unprotected animals that have grazed may already have an established S. vulgaris larval infestation. These animals should be treated with a therapeutic dose of a larvicidal product. This product is for use in horses only. It is not intended for human consumption. It is recommended that severely debilitated animals not be treated with this preparation. Store the product in the container it comes in. Keep out of the reach of children and pets.

Strongid Paste Storage:

Store at controlled room temperature 59°-77°F (15°-25°C).

What is Strongid C2X Medicated Feed?

STRONGID C 2X helps prevent Strongylus vulgaris larval infestations and control adult large strongyles as well as adult and fourth-stage larvae (L4) of small strongyles, pinworms and ascarids.

For:

Horses and foals (2+ months of age)

Benefits:

  • Easy to administer
  • Alfalfa and molasses-based pellets help ensure eager consumption and can be top dressed or mixed into any feed.

How does Strongid C2X Medicated Feed work?

Strongid C2X Medicated Feed effectively controls adult large strongyles and adult and fourth-stage larvae (L4) of small strongyles, pinworms and ascarids (roundworms) and prevents Strongylus vulgaris larvae before they can damage vital organs or grow into adulthood and produce eggs that contaminate pastures.

Strongid C2X Medicated Feed Storage:

Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Strongid Paste Directions:

  • Strongid Paste is given by mouth to horses and foals for the removal and control of mature infections of internal parasites (large and small strongyles, pinworms, and large roundworms).
  • Each oral syringe of Strongid Paste contains four 300 lb doses.
  • Strongid Paste is to be administered as a single oral dose of 3 mg pyrantel base per lb of body weight. The syringe has 4 weight mark increments. Each weight mark indicates the recommended dose for 300 lb of body weight.
NOTE:

Position screw-gauge over appropriate mark on the plunger. Each ml contains 180 mg of pyrantel base as pyrantel pamoate. For maximum control of parasitism, it is recommended that foals (2-8 months of age) be dosed every 4 weeks. To minimize the potential source of infection that the mare may pose to the foal, the mare should be treated 1 month prior to anticipated foaling date followed by retreatment 10 days to 2 weeks after birth of foal. Horses and ponies over 8 months of age should be routinely dosed every 6 weeks.

Administration Instructions:

After removing the cap, the paste should be deposited on the dorsum of the tongue. Introduce the nozzle end of the syringe at the corner of the mouth. Direct the syringe backwards and depress the plunger to deposit the paste onto the tongue. Given in this manner, it is unlikely that rejection of the paste will occur. Raising your horse's head sometimes assists in the swallowing process. When only part of the paste has been used, replace the cap on the syringe nozzle.

Tip:

May be used in mares at any stage of pregnancy or lactation. Stallion fertility is not affected by the use of this product. Should not be given to severely debilitated horses.
