Have a hard dog to pill - these will solve it
My current schnauzer hates to take pills. Went into congestive heart failure this winter and would only chew up his Vetmedin chewables for 2 days and then the hide the pill dance began. Due to nationwide shortages on the medicine, I took the chance and ordered the compounded version. Game changer!! Frustration is gone. He takes 5mg a day - split into two doses. I am able to fit his other two tiny meds into the half dose, make a ball and down the hatch. He sits there waiting for more. So highly recommend! He gets the beef flavor.

QUESTION
how much vetmedin should a 10 lb dog get daily?
ANSWERS (1)
The usual dose is 0.23mg per pound of pet's body weight divided into 2 portions to be given 12 hours apart. The portion to be given should be to the nearest ½ tablet increment, The usual dose for a 10 pound dog would be about 1.25 mg twice a day. The actual dose can only be determined by your veterinarian and depends on your dogs specific conditions.

What is a Compounded Medication?

A compounded medication is the creation of a particular medication to fit the unique needs of a patient, including changing the form of the medication (e.g., from a solid pill to a liquid) for a variety reasons (e.g., to make it easier to take, to avoid a non-essential ingredient, to obtain the exact dose needed, adding favorite flavors).

If you are having difficulty giving your pet prescribed medication or need to find a discontinued medication, 1-800-PetMeds offers compounding services on select medications. We can prepare the following: (1) custom strength quantities of a medication (as capsules, liquid, chewable tablets, or transdermal (absorbed through the skin); (2) dosage forms to mask bitter or unpleasant taste (such as capsules or chewable tablets that can also be flavored); (3) dosage forms to make it easier to dose your pet such as a transdermal or liquid (that can also be flavored); and (4) discontinued products such as cisapride or DES.
