Rated 3 out of 5 by from It works, but watch out I gave it to my Biewer Yorkshire...almost 7 pnds, the whole pill as requested by my vet. She got super hyper for over 8 hours running back and forth...then she had very soft stools but the worms came out looking like rice. We are almost 24 hours later and now she won't eat her food or drink water or milk, I tried Salmon to get her to eat and drink the water in the can, but she can't keep anything down and won't drink at all.... I hope this will wear off...the vets is closed until Monday.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Drontal Plus This med was given to my 9 week old Great Dane puppy by the Vet, it worked well with treating worms, but I believe it also cause my puppy to have vomiting and diarrhea. This is listed as possible side affects, so don't be alarmed. The diarrhea has stopped and he is doing great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What????? Your description about your product is misleading. Using a 68mg tablet will not deworm a dog appropriately for the weight range you have listed nor will the 22.7 mg tablet deworm a dog up to 25 pounds. It requires 2 1/2 tablets to deworm properly!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greatest Wormer EVER!!! We have 5 dogs and have tried several wormers in the past. Drontal Plus Works GREAT! Less hen 24 hours later and the worms were gone! We have small to large dogs, so we always buy the high dose pills and split them into 1/3's. It's cheaper that way. One of our dogs hated would not take the pill on his own, so we hid it in a piece of lunch meat and down the hatch it went. I would recomend this medication to ANYONE!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! I didn't personally get Drontal from this website but I got it at the pet clinic and Drontal is the best!! My dog had terrible tape worms and the medication that was originally given to her didn't work and she was taking it for over a month. Finally, we got Drontal and it killed all the worms in one day! Thank goodness because the worms were really gross. I highly recommend Drontal for tape worms.

How often do we wormed with this pill is it monthly

Asked by: Lisa
Thank you for your question. Dogs and puppies over the age of 3 weeks are treated with a single dose of Drontal Plus based on the weight of the pet. Retreatment is usually not necessary unless the pet is in an area where it can easily get at wild rodents, in which case the pet may need to be retreated every 25 days or so. Unless otherwise directed by your veterinarian.

There should not be any problems with giving it as a separate dose. However, watch for signs that the worms may not have fully cleared and contact your veterinarian for another dose of dewormer.

Asked by: Belle
Single dose is determined based on your pet's weight. Please contact your vet to determine this dose. Redosing is recommended based on your pet's fecal test results. If your pet still has parasites, a second re dose may be required. Your vet will determine how long after first dose to redose, if needed.

Asked by: Deb11
Drontal Plus contains Praziquantel (pra-zee-kwan'-tell) with pyrantel pamoate and febantel. Pyrantel Pamoate is safe to use in nursing dogs. Praziquantel appears in maternal milk at a concentration of about 25% of that in maternal serum, but is unlikely to pose harm to nursing offspring.

How long is drontal-K9 effective ? Does it protect them from being reinfected if so for how long?

Asked by: MicMac
Drontal Plus is a broad-spectrum dewormer used in dogs to treat tapeworms, roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. It is given as one dose. Worming preparations do not persist in the body, nor do they remain active against worms. That's why it is important to try to keep your pet away from sources of worm infection, and to implement a policy of strategic worming using an effective product, such as Drontal Plus.

When should I dose my dog again

Asked by: Jenn
It's recommended (but not necessarily required) that you give a second dose in 3 weeks to ensure all stages of the worms are eliminated. The drug works by paralyzing the worm, causing it to release its hold on the intestine wall. If larvae aren't fully grown at initial dosing, they may be unaffected, thus the need for a second dose.

Still see worms in stool, they appear to be moving

We adopted a puppy yesterday, and his paperwork says we was treated two days ago with Drontal. I just noticed what appears to be worms in his stool, and they appear to be moving/alive. Is this an indication of the drug working or an indication that he was not actually administered the drug?
Asked by: Scott
After giving Drontal, it is still possible to see live worms coming out in the stool. Tape worm fragments can take up to 10 days to come out. You can ask your veterinarian about redosing in a few weeks. A second dose is often needed to make sure all phases of the life cycles are treated and completely deworm the pet.

What is Drontal Plus?

Drontal Plus is a broad-spectrum dewormer used in dogs to treat tapeworms, roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. Drontal Plus is sold per tablet and requires a prescription.

For:

Dogs & Puppies (3+ weeks of age, weighing 2+ lbs)

Benefits:

  • Proven to eliminate the most common intestinal parasites (tapeworms, roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms)
  • Chewable tablets are easy to give
  • Given as a single dose
  • Sold per tablet

How does Drontal Plus work?

Drontal Plus' active ingredients are praziquantel, pyrantel pamoate and febantel. Praziquantel works by damaging the parasite's skin internally, so the parasite disintegrates and is removed by your pet's immune system. Pyrantel pamoate is active against hookworms and ascarids and acts as a depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent, causing sudden contraction, followed by paralysis. This results in the hookworm losing its grip in the intestinal wall and is removed from your pet's system by the natural process. Febantel is active against nematode parasites, including whipworms.

Cautions:

Side effects of Drontal Plus are rare but may include vomiting, loss of appetite, or diarrhea. Other side effects may also occur. Talk to your veterinarian about any unusual or bothersome side effects that may occur.

Brand Name:

Drontal Plus (Bayer)
