Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Smell Spring is here, time to treat my cat for fleas as she does like to venure outside. In the past, I've chosen Frontline as her treatment. Instead, I decided to try Cheristin. Bad move. The treatment had a horrible scent -- very medicinal, almost toxic smelling. I ending up washing it off my cat who became extremely inactive while it was on her. As soon as I washed it off, she was purring, alert and interested in her food.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Quickly We came across this product a couple years ago when we were at our wits end with a flea infestation. We had tried all products we could find in the pet stores. A vet finally gave this to us and it cured the infestation quickly. Fleas started dying within 12 hours and we didn't have any other issues. We have continued to use this product on our cats and never have fleas on them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unfortunately did not work Unfortunately this product did not work for either of my cats. I have a large long hair Tabby and a smaller shorter haired Buff. (Both strictly indoor cats) The good news is that none of their hair fell out (not yet at least) but they also still have fleas. It has been 3 full days and this product claims to start working in 20 minutes. I have not seen a noticeable reduction in fleas or scratching. I am in Louisiana and we do have super fleas here but I will be seeking a refund.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The BEST alternative when others fail Incredibly effective flea med. I had been using Advantage II for 6 years on my 6 cats including my dog and never had a problem. Then I was overwhelmed with fleas without cause. In actuality I had two causes- First-- a 19 yr old tenant employed as a dog washer recently moved in and I found her to never wash her clothes throwing them into the corner of her room or worse re wearing them over again. So this culprit started the infestation as 6 cats and a dog were a true feast of easy pickings. I called Pet Meds discussed the flea med was failing and was advised any med human or animal can become resistant over a period of time. I researched the diff flea meds offered and went with Cheristin which has worked beyond my expectations for 2 years. OMG never again will I allow someone with so little knowledge on the cycle of the flea live in my house. Common sense in conjunction with a kid that works in the animal field with bad hygeine habits--no more. I wish this situation on no one---Now I am an expert on the financial cost of a pro flea company and exhaustive cleaning for the eradication of fleas due to their die hard cycle from larvae/ pupae to adult.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works for us! I have four Persian cats.I used Revolution in the past and ended up with a flea infestation. Then tried Activyl and that almost killed one of my kitties.Than I used Advantage Multi for a while but it became less and less effective. And yes I religiously treated the yard, house and car. Still these products couldn’t eradicate fleas completely. Thank God for Cheristin!I have been using it for about a year on all four cats and have not seen a flea, dead or live- since I started Cheristin. No side effects either.Safe and effective.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Did my research and so far I’m happy :) This is the reformulation of Assurity. That dose was too high for cats (formerly spinetoram 39.6%) but as Cheristin its 11.2% spinetoram and seems to be working great! My 12 yo long haired male cat has done horribly on Frontline Plus a few years ago. Both him and the younger female were on the lower dose of Revolution and when that didn’t work, the doctor upped their Revolution dose to the 15-22 lb. dose. They’ve been on that all year and it wasn’t working! He began to climb up on everything to get away from the fleas that were living on him! (Younger 3 yr old Female shorthair was doing okay but not great on Revolution either.) Researched both good and bad reviews on Cheristin. After giving them both capstar to kill the massive fleas on his belly fast, I ordered one dose of Cheristin just for the male cat. He’s been on it a week and not a single live flea on him! The first 24 hours, I found dead fleas all over his towel he was sleeping on! He’s finally sleeping peacefully and eating his food and drinking more again. No live fleas on him at all and he seems to be grateful. I guess the fleas had become immune to Frontline Plus and Revolution. I am going to buy a 3 month dose of Cheristin next time and keep an eye on him. (The female still has 2 more doses of Revolution to use up so I’m not going to give it to her until I see how he responds to Cheristin.) And yes, he had a slightly greasy Mohawk on the application spot but that was gone the next day! Caution: Dogs cannot tolerate this drug! I’m happy that at 1/3 of the dose of the previous formulation, it seems to be working great with no harmful side effects! Some cats may be sensitive to this medication so follow directions and be watchful. (if they can’t tolerate Comfortis do not give this.) So far I’m pleased. Will update if things change! I’m happy to have a calm, flea free cat!

How long should it take to work. It says 12 hours but it's been 24 and still have live fleas.

Asked by: Linda
You will also want to make sure you are treating all the pets in the environment for fleas. Also ensure that wildlife is not a source for fleas. In severe infestations, you may be seeing small, newly hatched fleas that are getting on your cat for the first time to be killed by the Cheristin. Always give a product at least 3 months of continued use before deciding it isn't working. Cocooned flea larva can survive up to 2 years in ideal environments, such as indoor carpeting and furniture.
