Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't work I bought this for my cats and it did not work on the fleas. I'm not sure what happened because it used to work great. I will not be buying this product again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not working as well as it normally does Usually this is the flea medicine brand we switch to every summer when fleas get bad because it’s the only brand that works for us. However this year it doesn’t seem to be helping much. I just put another dose on my cat and he hasn’t stopped scratching since. All of our pets are currently on flea medication so all I can think it that this brand is no longer working for us as our dogs have not stopped scratching either.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product I've been using Advantage for many years on my sweet kitty for 8 years and she's done fine ! She is a house cat so doesn't go outside but, a Vet once told me that house cats can still get infested with fleas that come into the home.. She knows it's coming when she sees me getting ready to put it on her and kinds backs away. But once the drop is placed on the back of her neck, she feels it just for a second then goes on her merry way. It's a good product and does the job!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Have been using this product on my dogs and cats for many years now, and absolutely will not ever use anything else. Have tried K9-advantix last year, because it claims to repeal ticks and other things, but did nothing for my animals. I had got it mostly cause it was cheaper, but did not work for me at all. Will be always using Advantage-ll for flea control. All fleas were died and there itching stopped within 24hrs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stopped the infestation. We brought in a sweet stray who was covered in fleas. After two baths we were still seeing flea activity and tried Advantage II which seemed effective pretty quickly. With the addition of a flea spray for our rugs and furniture we completely stopped the infestation. He's a happy boy now! I've seen this to be effective, so I would recommend it to any cat owner worried about fleas.

Do i bathe the dog for lice nefore applyng adv ll?

Asked by: Corral
Thank you for your question. We suggest bathing your dog before applying Advantage® II. Just make sure your dog is thoroughly towel-dried before application. If you choose to bathe your dog in between treatments, we recommend use of a general grooming shampoo or soap-free shampoo. Keep in mind that more frequent bathing may keep the product from working the full 30 days.

I've now given my indoor 11 lb. cat 2 doses of the flea treatment- 3 weeks apart. Now on week 4, and I'm still finding fast moving fleas on him. Why isn't this seem to be working?

Asked by: AmMoo
What you might be seeing are newly hatched fleas getting on your cat for it's first blood meal, at which time, it will die. Flea eggs and cocooned larva can stay in the environment for up to 3 years so continued treatment is necessary. Please be patient, continue to use the product monthly and make sure all pets are being treated and there is no source of new fleas coming into the environment. I helped one client that didn't know they had a family of raccoons living in their attic which was a continued source of fleas. They got rid of the raccoons and soon their flea problem was solved.

What is Advantage II?

Advantage II is a monthly flea preventative for dogs and cats that offers comprehensive flea protection by killing adult fleas, larvae, and eggs. Plus, it kills fleas through contact, which means fleas don't have to bite your pet to die. Advantage II also treats, prevents, and controls lice on dogs. Advantage II does not kill ticks, so we recommend using the Preventic Tick Collar along with Advantage II (dogs only). Advantage II for small cats 5-9 lbs can also be used for ferrets weighing 1 lb or over and 10 weeks of age or older.

For:

Dogs (7+ weeks of age, weighing 3+ lbs), Cats (8+ weeks of age, weighing 2+ lbs), Ferrets (10+ weeks of age, weighing 1+ lbs)

Benefits:

  • Convenient, once-a-month application
  • Kills through contact - fleas don't have to bite to die
  • Kills fleas within 12 hours of application on cats and dogs
  • Kills fleas within 24 hours of application on ferrets
  • Kills all flea life stages including flea eggs and larvae to prevent infestation
  • Treats, prevents, and controls lice infestations (dogs only)
  • Safe and easy to apply
  • Waterproof - remains effective even if pet gets wet (use of a soap-free shampoo is recommended)

How does Advantage II work?

The first active ingredient is imidacloprid, which acts on the nervous system of the flea to cause paralysis and subsequent death. Within 12 hours of application on cats and dogs, 98-100 percent of fleas are dead. Advantage II Small Cat kills the existing fleas on ferrets within 24 hours. The second active ingredient, pyriproxyfen, is an insect growth regulator. Once a female flea lays her eggs, pyriproxyfen works to prevent the eggs from hatching, ending the flea life cycle. Also, the active ingredient in Advantage II kills through contact, which means that fleas don't have to bite your pet to die. Reinfesting fleas are killed with protection against further flea infestation lasting for up to 4 weeks. Pre-existing pupae in the environment may continue to emerge for 6 weeks or longer depending upon the climactic conditions.

Cautions:

Individual sensitivities, while rare, may occur after using any pesticide product for pets. If signs persist, or become severe, consult a veterinarian immediately. Do not get this product in your pet's eyes or mouth.

Advantage II Directions:

  • Only use Advantage II on dogs/puppies over 3 lbs and over 7 weeks of age, cats/kittens over 2 lbs and over 8 weeks of age, and ferrets 1 lb or over and 10 weeks of age or older.
  • Apply Advantage II once a month every month.
  • For dogs up to 20 lbs, part the pet's hair between the shoulder blades until you can see the skin. Place the tip of the applicator on the skin and release all of the tube's contents on a single spot directly on the skin.
  • For dogs 21 lbs and over, apply entire contents of the tube evenly in 3 or 4 spots on the top of the back from the shoulder to the base of the tail. At each spot, part the hair until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the applicator on the skin and release a portion of the Advantage II solution directly on the skin. Do not apply an excessive amount of solution at any one spot that could cause some of the solution to run off the side of the dog.
  • For kittens, cats and ferrets, place the applicator tip through the cat's hair to the skin on the neck at the base of the skull and release all of the tube's contents on a single spot directly on the skin.
  • Use only one applicator per treatment.
Tip:

Under normal conditions Advantage II is effective for a month. However, in case of severe flea infestation, retreatment may be necessary earlier than four weeks. Do not re-treat cats or dogs more often than once every 7 days. For ferrets, do not retreat more often than every 14 days. After flea control is obtained, return to a monthly treatment.
