Special Ways to Celebrate National Dog Mom’s Day

Plan The Perfect Dog Mom’s Day in 5 Steps

Dog moms are the best. From cuddling their pup through scary thunderstorms, serving up tasty meals just the way they like it, giving the best belly rubs, and cleaning up explosive messes, dog moms always go the extra mile to keep their canine kids happy and healthy
Finally, there’s a day just for the dog moms. Every second Saturday in May, the day before (human) Mother’s Day, is Dog Mom’s Day
Whether you’re a proud puppy parent or can’t wait to pamper your favorite dog mom this Saturday, here are five fun activities to plan out the best Dog Mom’s Day ever

5 Ways To Plan The Perfect Dog Mom’s Day

  • 1 First, breakfast in bed is the quintessential start of a wonderful Mother’s Day, so why not celebrate Dog Mom’s Day with a dog-friendly spread? Dog-safe fare like fresh strawberries, blueberries, and bananas, bites of boiled egg are suitable for most fur-children to sample, though overindulging in too much of any new food could cause an upset stomach. Breakfast-themed dog treats or dog food that contains bacon or eggs can also make a festive addition to a dog-mommy-and-me breakfast.
  • 2 Flowers for mom are a Mother’s Day must-have, just make sure the bouquet is free of toxic flowers and foliage and kept out of pup’s reach. Or, if you prefer gardening over vase-bound bouquets, take pup along for a trip to an outdoors, dog-friendly nursery and pick out some new blooms to plant for spring. Make sure to use pet friendly gardening supplies like nontoxic mulch, fertilizer, and plants.
  • 3 Dig up those old puppy photos. Every dog-mom remembers the day she brought her pup home and became a dog mama for the first time. This Saturday is a great day to thumb through photo albums, scroll to the beginning of the camera roll, and hunt down the cutest puppy pics. It can also be fun to print, organize, create a scrapbook, or frame photos that deserve to be on display year-round.
  • 4 Go on a shopping trip. Outdoor flea markets, farmer’s markets, and downtown promenades are often dog-friendly. Local artisans, dog treat bakeries, and farmers have last-minute dog mom days gifts to end the perfect day. Make sure your pup has the right pet travel gear to travel safely or navigate through crowds. Pup can ride along in a pet stroller, dog car seat, dog carrier backpack, or even a bike basket, or bicycle trailer
  • 5 Matching mani-pedis are perfect for spoiling both mama and her four-legged kiddo. Dogs could ingest particles of paint when they lick their paws, so they should only get nontoxic made-for-pets polish, while mom can choose a matching shade in her favorite brand. As an alternative to polish, how about a foot rub for two, with paw pad lotion to pamper her pup’s rough pads.

The true inspiration behind Dog Mom’s Day is the celebration between the canine-human bond. Those who treat their dogs as their own family members, do their best to be their advocate and provide the very best care every day, are to be honored with a day of their own. Whether you’re planning on going out and having special meals or just staying home with loved ones, all a dog mom really needs today is that puppy-eyed look of love that says, “Dog-mom, you’re the best!”
