Not effective
I read a lot of the reviews and also got a positive recommendation from a friend who has two large dogs. My two large dogs are strictly outside dogs. I was really hoping that this collar would help. But I pick ticks off of them daily. I will try to go back to the topical treatments though I really prefer not to. Totally disappointed.

Just won't work.
I bought this collar 2 weeks ago hoping it would help keep the ticks off my Chesapeake Bay Retriver but it has yet to work. I find myself picking them off him daily, even from around the collar! I followed the directions but it just wont work. Maybe his coat is just too curly for it to be effective? I don't know, but I'm definitely not happy with this.

Great product
This collar is 50% more expensive than the pet store brands but well worth the price. It is the most effective non-topical flea and tick deterrent we have found. Our pet sleeps near the children so lack of odor is a big plus. My Vet uses this product on his dogs as well. We went from finding 3-5 ticks per day on our pet and carpets to zero within 24 hours. Get the larger size as the smaller dog sizing seems a bit optimistic.

finally!
We were pulling several ticks off our Golden Retriever no matter what flea/tick application we used. It's been a week with the collar and NO ticks!! We also have seen no change in behavior which i was nervous about after reading the reviews.

Works but not for long!
Really did work, but it's been about 5 weeks and starting last week I started finding ticks on my 25 pound Corgi. Probably still the best collar on the market but be prepared to purchase 1 a month which is quite expensive.

I read if you use k9 advantix II you need to keep cats seperated for 24 hours. I need flea and tick prevention for my dogs where I live and don't want to rick poisoning my Ragdoll. Is the product safe if a cat or even if the dogs bite at it?
Preventic Tick Collars are safe for the cat to come in contact with your dog. As for biting of the collar that is not safe. The collar should be placed on your dogs neck snug enough where he is comfortable but not where he is able to bite it.
Will handling the dog which is wearing the collar also a problem for diabetics? Our dog wears the collar all the time and is in the bed with us; will this cause harm to any of us?
Humans taking MAOI medications or who are diabetic should use this product with caution and should wash hands thoroughly after applying the collar. Use rubber gloves when putting the Preventic Tick Collar on your pet. Our pharmacist recommends consulting with your veterinarian to see if it is okay for your dog to sleep in the bed with you while wearing the collar because it contains Amitraz.........
If you know when your dog is going swimming, remove the collar and replace it when he is done. My dogs go lake wading during the day and get thier collars back on at night: this method seems to work fine. If the collar gets soaked, I think all bets are off.
