What is the most important information I should know about Iverhart Plus: Iverhart Plus is a prescription medication available as pork liver flavored chewable tablets. The usual dose of Iverhart Plus in dogs up to 25 pounds is 68mcg/57mg (Blue box), for dogs 26-50 pounds is 136mcg/114mg (Green box) and for dogs 51-100 lbs 272mcg/227mg (Brown box). Dogs over 100 lbs are given a combination of tablets.
What is Iverhart Plus: Iverhart Plus is given once a month for the prevention of heartworm disease in dogs. Iverhart Plus also protects against hookworms and roundworms in dogs. It is recommended by the American Heartworm Society that heartworm prevention be given year-round. Iverhart Plus may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this guide.
What should I discuss with my veterinarian before giving Iverhart Plus to my pet: Tell your veterinarian if your pet has ever had an allergic reaction to the medication.
How should this medication be given: Give Iverhart Plus exactly as directed by your veterinarian. If you do not understand the directions ask your pharmacist or veterinarian to explain them to you. Use with caution in collies. Heartworm testing should be performed prior to the start of prevention therapy. If your pet is off Iverhart Plus for 6 months or less, start the medication and test after 6 months since microfilaria, that take 6 months to mature, will result in a positive test result. Store Iverhart Plus at room temperature. Do not remove the tablet from its wrapper until ready to give to your pet. Keep this medication away from children and pets. The safe use of this drug has not been evaluated in pregnant or lactating bitches.
What happens if I miss giving a dose: Give the missed dose as soon as you remember. Do not give a double dose of the medication.
What happens if I overdose the pet: Seek emergency veterinary medical treatment. Symptoms of overdose may include vomiting, diarrhea, and lack of coordination in dogs.
What should I avoid while giving Iverhart Plus to my pet: Because humans can contract hookworms from animals, it is important to maintain good personal hygiene. It is also important to eliminate fleas on your pet and in the household and to not feed your pet rodents or uncooked meat or fish. To prevent reinfection, daily cleanup of stools is recommended.
What are the possible side effects of Iverhart Plus: Side effects of Iverhart Plus are rare at the recommended heartworm prevention dose. Higher doses in dogs may cause tremors, dilated pupils, loss of body weight, or death.
What other drugs will affect Iverhart Plus: Do not give Iverhart Plus if your pet is already being given another heartworm medication.
Where can I get more information: Your pharmacist has additional information about Iverhart Plus written for health professionals that you may read.

Iverhart Plus Chewables
I was a little concerned about using this product, because my breeder said that her dogs had a "reaction" to Hartgard (same ingredients) but the vet told me to tr y it, and so far so good! I was always using Interceptor before but now feel like I can use this on my dogs and they will be ok!

Not Chewable
My dog has been using Iverhart Plus for 3 years now with great checkups. However, i will probably be going back to Heartgard because my dog hates the taste of these. It says on the box that they must be chewed but my dog spits it out, so i have to resort to crushing it, then disguising it in peanut butter. It's annoying, and i'm never sure if he's actually getting all of it. Too much hassle - he used to gobble up Heartgard, so i'd rather pay a little more for that, knowing he's getting the complete dosage.

A Great Product
I've used Iverhart for 2 yr's now. We live in an area with a high mosquito population, and heart worms can be a serious problem for untreated dogs. My Ppillion has stayed heart worm free, and he takes Iverheart as if it were a treat. Iverheart is an excellent product, at an affordable price.

You will need to discuss that with your veterinarian. However keep in mind that this product does not cover for fleas so you may need additional flea medication.
I was pet sitting my friends new puppy who soon after was diagnosed with sarcoptic mange. My dogs how ever are both on iverhart plus. are they protected? from the the environmen. Ps. There was no direct contact between dogs just same environment.
Iverhart plus only offers protections from heartworms, roundworms, and tapeworms. Sarcoptic mange is very contagious. You should look for symptoms like scrathing, rash, and hair loss and contact your vet if any of these symptoms develop.
Thank you for your question, unfortunately, Iverhart Plus does not protect against sarcoptic mange. You may want to speak to your physician or veterinarian if you or your pets are suffering from any of the following because sarcoptic mange is highly contagious.
