How it works: Zymox Otic Enzymatic Solution has what the manufacturer calls a Three-Point Enzyme System. Each enzyme - lactoperoxidase, lysozyme, and lactoferrin - has its own unique properties that, when combined, becomes a powerful antimicrobial formula.
The antibacterial property of the lactoperoxidase is based upon inhibiting vital bacterial metabolic enzymes. Lysozyme kills bacteria by disrupting the formation of a glycosidic bond between the two components of peptidoglycan, a constituent of the bacterial cell wall. Lastly, lactoferrin - an iron-binding protein - is bacteriostatic against a wide range of microorganisms, which means it inhibits the growth of the bacteria.
Cautions: Do not use this product when using any other topical ear medications or cleansers, since the enzyme activity of Zymox Otic Enzymatic Solution Hydrocortisone Free may not work.

Zymox Otic Enzymatic Hyrdocortisone Free is a economical way to clear up your dog's ear infection. I purchased this product earlier this month for my dog's ear yeast infection. It was cost effective and showed results quickly, which made me and my dog extremely happy!
A while back my female guinea pig had a bad ear infection. After having a 100$ vet bill and being out of work I wanted to prevent this from happening again and while looking for something to cleanse the ears I found these drops and saw that it fought bacterial as well as yeast infection. I saw that I gp's could not have hydrocortisone so I purchased these drops even after not being able to find any info anywhere rather someone has used this on their gp or not. Now she was in bad shape again w/ another one. I started using these drops to see if I can get rid of this ear infection and she is getting back to herself once again. I guess she is prone to them because the others have not had them. I will have to keep this on hand at all times. GREAT STUFF!
product worked really well for my sheltie. but i used it in conjunction with his raw diet and gave him probiotic supplement as well ( with his food). i also took out all sugars from his diet - from treats, to fruits and ' sweet' vegetables such as sweet potatoe, peas etc. prior to the product arriving, i was the treating the infection with equal portion white vinegar/ water/ alochol. i waited a day after before applying the zymox, to ensure no conflicts with the treatment. great alternative to healing as naturally as possible without the negative effects of antibiotics/ steroids.
Used this as directed for seven days. Nothing improved. The ears became more itchy and the smell increased overwhelmingly. Poor doggie. A complete waste of money and effort.

For dogs with itchy ears, you should choose Zymox Otic with Hydrocortisone. The hydrocortisone provides added relief from inflammation as well as relief from itching.

"Miracle in a bottle"
My beagle has allergies and she has a yeast infection in her ears. After an allergic reaction to ear wash solution and then an allergic reaction to Tresaderm ear drops, the Vet suggested I use this. Its only day 2 and her ears look completely normal. I cannot believe it. Because of her severe allergies and sensitivity, I started with 2 drops in each ear to see how she would react. She had no reaction to this and the redness and little red bumps are gone in 2 days. So in 2 days I am extremely pleased with this product!! I decided to use this one without hydrocortisone because of how sensitive she is. Even the smell from her ears is just about gone. I will know the full effectiveness in a few weeks when I have her ears tested again to make sure the yeast is gone.
Zymox is an enzymatic solution containing 3 enzymes. Each enzyme - lactoperoxidase, lysozyme, and lactoferrin - has its own unique properties that, when combined, becomes a powerful antimicrobial formula. Zymox does not require a prescription. Tresaderm on the other hand is a prescription medication used in the ear or on the skin. It contains antibiotic, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial ingredients.
For chronic infections, Zymox should not be used for more than 2 weeks. If there is no improvement after 2 weeks, the pet should be examined by a veterinarian.
I have some cats, & i've been using tresaderm on them for their infection. i'm supposed to do this until monday 10/7. i don't think i have enough for all of my cats until then, & i don't want to buy more tresaderm...but i do have a bottle of zymox. how long should i wait to switch from using tresaderm to zymox?
I'm not sure what you are planning to do is necessarily the correct thing to do. However, as long as you do not apply another ear drop while you are using Zymox, you can apply Zymox when the next scheduled dose of Tresaderm was due.
I used this product for my dog and it worked well. But 2-3 weeks later, she started scratching again. I tried other products too,but she started scratching few weeks later. My vet said that the cause of scratching might be allergy. My dog needs this product once a month to keep comfortable.
For acute infections (short term), treat once a day for 7 days. For chronic infections (long term), treat once a day for 14 days. You may want to consider Zymox with hydrocortisone, it provides added relief from inflammation as well as relief from itching.
