How it works: Zymox Otic Enzymatic Solution has what the manufacturer calls a Three-Point Enzyme System. Each enzyme - lactoperoxidase, lysozyme, and lactoferrin - has its own unique properties that, when combined, becomes a powerful antimicrobial formula.
The antibacterial property of the lactoperoxidase is based upon inhibiting vital bacterial metabolic enzymes. Lysozyme kills bacteria by disrupting the formation of a glycosidic bond between the two components of peptidoglycan, a constituent of the bacterial cell wall. Lastly, lactoferrin - an iron-binding protein - is bacteriostatic against a wide range of microorganisms, which means it inhibits the growth of the bacteria.
The anti-inflammatory action of hydrocortisone reduces itching and inflammation.
Cautions: Do not use this product when using any other topical ear medications or cleansers, since the enzyme activity of Zymox Otic Enzymatic Solution with Hydrocortisone may not work.

Zymox Otic Enzymatic Solution with Hydrocortisone:
Our yellow lab Rocky has had an ongoing infection for the past 9 months. We took him to the vet numerous times and after several hundred dollars it was still not cleared up. He looked sad all the time and would just lay around. His sore ear was always drooping and he didn't want to play much at all. I was happy to finally find something that we could get without a prescription. In about 1 week of use he is his old peppy self and his ear is not drooping anymore. Thank-you very much!
I used this product on my Shih Tzu who is prone to ear infections and within a week her ears cleared up and went from a soar red color to a nice healthy pink and she is not scratching her eyes anymore!!
My labrador gets an ear infection a few times a year and the price of vet visits and prescription medication really added up. Plus, I read many reviews about the prescription medications causing hearing loss. I tried this product over a year ago and it has gotten rid of every ear infection since. It's easier to use than the prescription meds because you don't clean the ear during treatment and after adding up the cost of getting to the vet, the visit, and then the medication, this product really pays for itself. But most importantly, it works!
I can't answer that. I don't know what this product may do. I can only advise you, in the strongest terms, that if your pet has a ruptured ear drum, nothing should be put in your pet's ear unless your veterinarian has told you to do so.
It says post treatment flush is recommended. Does that mean after the entire 7 days, or after each treatment and flush with what? (Zymox OTiC Enzymation Solution)
After you have treated your pet's ear for the 7 day course of therapy, you should flush the ear with a product such as 1-800-PetMeds Ear Cleansing Solution.
My cocker spaniel has had ear infections before, but now we think it may be allergy related. Will this give her some comfort (from all that shaking of her head!), until we can afford to get her allergy tested?

Yes my dog had an ear infection and he kept scratching his ear and shaking his heads non stop. Thats when i purchase this medication and he stop doing that. It work on my dog and i hope it works on ur dog too.
It's possible the head shaking is due to allergy. It may also be due to infection. If it is an infection, using Zymox Otic for 7 days should help. If it does not, or if the condition seems to get worse, you should take your pet to the veterinarian.
