I was originally using ResiSoothe (the leave-on conditioner) for my dog's itching problem and was initially unhappy that PetMeds didn't carry it. But it was SO expensive at my vet's (twice the price for less than half as much) that I asked her if EpiSoothe would be OK (I use EpiSoothe shampoo, which PetMeds does carry) and she said it would be. And I was very pleasantly surprised.
My puppy still isn't itching, but her coat is SO much softer, and I really like the smell of this stuff as well. And it's so much less expensive than ResiSoothe.
The only drawback: you have to figure out how to help a cold, wet dog kill 5 minutes while the stuff soaks in!
Our Bijon has seasonal skin allergies that cause him to scratch til he bleeds. A regimen of Brewers Yeast with Garlic tablets and Fish Oil capsules and frequent bathing with Episoothe keep the itch at bay. Episoothe provides instant relief from the itching. We have used the shampoo for several years with much success and have now purchased the conditioner for the first time after reading other reviews.
My German Shepherd was scratching terribly and I tried a friend's ResiSoothe leave on lotion. It worked beautifully. I then went online and purchased EpiSoothe as it sounded like the same thing, only as a rinse -off conditioner. I have not been happy with this as my dog still scratches. I've since purchased the leave-on lotion since I know it works. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the big bottle of EpiSoothe but I think I wasted my money on it.
I discovery Epi-Soothe over 20 years ago when I took my Cairn Terrier into the Vet with a terrible skin and itch problem. After the second use of Epi-Soothe the skin and itch problem was gone. Since then I would use nothing else for my Cairns. I have also started using the cream rinse. Their coats are very soft and have a wonderful shine.
I would say I probably end up with a handful of hair after using this, about the same that you would get after brushing. She's a Sheltie mix so she's already a shedder.

I do not have hair loss from my dog from using this product but there is a certain amount of hair that comes off after washing her hair. Probably from the rubbing of the shampoo into her hair, just like we have some hairs that shed when we shampoo our hair. Perhaps there would be less if she were brushed vigorously before shampooing. I think they are merely loose hairs that were meant to fall out soon.
I used this product after shampooing with an anti-itch shampoo from the vet. He needs some conditioning due to dryness, but most conditioners have too many perfumes in them...also shampoos over the counter.
