Drontal Plus is a broad-spectrum dewormer used in dogs to treat tapeworms, roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. Drontal Plus requires a prescription, and is sold per tablet.
For:
Dogs (weighing over 2 lbs and 3 weeks of age)
Benefits:
•
Proven to eliminate the most common intestinal parasites (tapeworms, roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms)
•
Chewable tablets are easy to give
•
Given as a single dose
How it works:
Drontals active ingredients are praziquantel, pyrantel pamoate and febantel. Praziquantel works by damaging the parasite's skin internally, so the parasite disintegrates and is removed by the pet's immune system. Pyrantel pamoate is active against hookworms and ascarids and acts as a depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent, causing sudden contraction, followed by paralysis. This results in the hookworm losing its grip in the intestinal wall and is removed from the pets system by natural process. Febantel is active against nematode parasites including whipworms.
Cautions:
Side effects of Drontal Plus are rare but may include vomiting, loss of appetite, or diarrhea. Other side effects may also occur. Talk to your veterinarian about any unusual or bothersome side effects that may occur.

i had the dog for his annual shots and this is the 2nd year the the vet gave this to our dog. our dog does not have worms. the vet said this is for a preventative. does anyone know if this is true.

not sure
I have a 4 1/2 mo Norwich terrier puppy. I used this medication as a precaution since he trys to eat everything in the yard (including rabbit pellets/feces). This medication made him extremely hyper the day he took it, and he didn't want to go to sleep that night. The following day he slept allll day. He was nauseous, but didn't vomit. He had soft stools the next day, but I didn't see any worms.
.I was given this medication by our vet. I think our puppy may be sensitive to this medication.

Great Product!!!
We were skeptical to use this product, basing our views off of the reviews from this page... But we went ahead & bought the product anyway..
We just got 2 beagle puppies & they had worms so bad. They were all over their crate in the mornings & leaking out of their behind. It was disgusting. We tried this product & within 2 hours, most of the worms had exited our puppies bodies (in their stools). It was disgusting. It's been 24 hours & there are no more worms in their stools & we woke up to no worms in the crate, not one! They have had NO side effects. They had loose stool, but not diarrhea.
This product is AWESOME & very inexpensive!!!

Great Dane Puppy
I gave it to my 12 week old Great Dane. He threw up about six hours after taking it, but was fine other than that.

I gave the recommended 2 1/2 doses at once with food to my Beagle about 4 hours ago but he hasn't pooped yet. Is this normal or did I do something wrong???
This product is for deworming dogs, it has nothing to do with causing a bowel movement. However, if your pet is not having regular bowel movments by the next day, you should check with your veterinarian. Thanks for your question.
some owners have had success...using the pet's favorite treats to hide the pill.....peanut butter, liverworst, raw hamburger meat..are a few examples of items that worked for past customers
Drontal plus made by Bayer is a tablet that is shaped to resemble a dog bone, there is no mistaking this tablet! You should ask your veterinarian the name of the medication you were given and if you have any concerns about the medication speak to him/her about it. Thanks for your question.
