    What is Advantage II?

Advantage II is a monthly flea preventative for dogs and cats that offers comprehensive flea protection by killing adult fleas, larvae, and eggs. Plus, it kills fleas through contact, which means fleas don't have to bite your pet to die. Advantage II also treats, prevents, and controls lice on dogs. Advantage II does not kill ticks, so we recommend using the Preventic Tick Collar along with Advantage II (dogs only).
    Advantage II
    For:
Dogs (3 lbs or over and 7 weeks of age or older)
Cats (2 lbs or over and 8 weeks of age or older)

    Benefits:
Kills fleas within 12 hours of application
Kills all flea life stages including flea eggs and larvae to prevent infestation
Treats, prevents, and controls lice infestations (dogs only)
    Safe and easy to apply
Waterproof - remains effective even if pet gets wet

    How it works:
The first active ingredient is imidacloprid, which acts on the nervous system of the flea to cause paralysis and subsequent death. Within 12 hours of application, 98-100 percent of fleas are dead. The second active ingredient, pyriproxyfen, is an insect growth regulator. Once a female flea lays her eggs, pyriproxyfen works to prevent the eggs from hatching, ending the flea life cycle. Also, the active ingredient in Advantage II kills through contact, which means that fleas don't have to bite your pet to die.

    Cautions:
Individual sensitivities, while rare, may occur after using any pesticide product for pets. If signs persist, or become more severe, consult a veterinarian immediately. Do not get this product in your pet's eyes or mouth.

    Directions:
Only use Advantage II on dogs/puppies over 3 lbs and over 7 weeks of age, and cats/kittens over 2 lbs and over 8 weeks of age.
Apply Advantage II once a month every month.
For dogs up to 20 lbs, part the pet's hair between the shoulder blades until you can see the skin. Place the tip of the applicator on the skin and release all of the tube's contents on a single spot directly on the skin.
For dogs 21 lbs and over, apply entire contents of the tube evenly in 3 or 4 spots on the top of the back from the shoulder to the base of the tail. At each spot, part the hair until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the applicator on the skin and release a portion of the Advantage II solution directly on the skin. Do not apply an excessive amount of solution at any one spot that could cause some of the solution to run off the side of the dog.
For kittens and cats, place the applicator tip through the cat's hair to the skin on the neck at the base of the skull and release all of the tube's contents on a single spot directly on the skin.
Use only one applicator per treatment.
Tip: Under normal conditions Advantage II is effective for a month. However, in case of severe flea infestation, retreatment may be necessary earlier than four weeks. Do not re-treat more often than once every seven days. After flea control is obtained, return to a monthly treatment.

Advantage II Wonderful, worked within a few days. My cats aren't scratching. Have always used Advantage and always very satisfied and recommend to others. 05/17/2011
no good! I tried Advantage II on my cats and can't even tell they've been treated! Will go back to Frontline. 05/12/2011
Works so far! Inherited 2 cats and they came complete with fleas. I bought advantage along with the spot spray and flea comb and so far my flea infestation has diminished and I havent seen a flea since. I also vacuumed and used my carpet cleaning machine. I gave both a bath with Dawn dish soap which I was informed to use because fleas don't like it. Since I've done all this, everything has been great. I will definitely continue to use these products, Thank you. 05/11/2011
Works Great!!! I use Advantage II on my Great Danes & my Pomeranians & it works great! I have tried other products but always come back to Advantage. It works quickly with no adverse side effects. My dog's health & comfort are very important to me, so I will continue to use it. Thank you for this great product! 05/03/2011

My large cat is indoor/outdoor & sleeps in my bed. He does not have fleas, but I have given him Frontline as a preventative. A friend mentioned to me that I am giving him poison & fleas don't live here (2,500 ft elev) N. Idaho…and it snows soon.
He has all the shots for prevention. How does it benefit him to treat if he doesn't have fleas???

    Answer:
Changes in hair color are not a common side effect of the medication. Please monitor the skin sites where the product was applied to ensure there isn't a delayed adverse reaction and report any irritation to your veterinarian as soon as possible.

    Answer:
My vet informed me that fleas like many insects will build an immunity to insecticides, because I noticed after 5 or 6 applications, that this product wasn't working. I also noticed that my cats felt a burning sensation and the fur disappeared in the area where I had applied. My vet said that I should put smaller applications on three places behind neck and this will prevent the product from concentrating its potency only in one area, which should prevent burning feeling and loss of fur. I alternate each month with this and Frontline to prevent fleas from immunity build up.

    Answer:
It says within the instructions that you should not apply medicine to dry skin because it will not absorb properly. Also, I wouldn't think that applying any medicine like this to a sore area would be a good idea. My advice would be to wait for the scabs to clear so the sores will not be affected and the skin will be back to its original texture so it can absorb the medicine correctly. Hope this helps!
