Program Tablets are a monthly oral flea preventative for dogs and cats. Program Tablets inhibit/prevent development of flea eggs, but do not kill adult fleas. Program is 100% safe and effective in preventing and controlling flea populations. If you would like your pet to have immediate relief from fleas, consider using Capstar Flea Treatment Tablets (sold separately) along with Program, for a complete flea management program.
For:
Dogs (4 weeks of age an older)
Cats (4 weeks of age and older)
Benefits:
•
Beef flavored tablets
•
Breaks the life cycle of fleas
•
Safe, easy oral solution
How it works:
Program Tablets contain lufenuron. Lufenuron is an insect development inhibitor which breaks the flea life cycle by inhibiting egg development. It was created to be absorbed with your pets metabolism of its meal. Therefore, if you do not give Program to your pet with a full meal, it may not work at its full potential. Lufenuron has no effect on the pre-existing adult fleas in your home and yard, so you may still see these fleas even after treatment with Program begins. This does not mean that Program is not working. Based on clinical studies, you could continue to see these pre-existing fleas during the first 30 to 60 days. It is important to treat all of your pets with Program to effectively kill the flea cycle. Otherwise, fleas will feed on your untreated pets and regain the ability to lay eggs.
Cautions:
Make sure that your pet eats the whole tablet.

To say it simply this is the best product i ever tried for my dog (and i have tried many) ever since he started taking these pills he has not had one flea! It works great and fast! Overall very pleased with this product!
Found about Capstar after online research and reading lots about fleas and med reviews. Before that we tried lots of various approaches but nothing worked, i mean nothing. If nothing else, we had the cleanest dog in the world. We have a fabulous Siberian and he came down with a fabulous case of fleas. Lots of hours of care, research and trial and error weeks later we found Capstar. The reviews were very positive so we tried it. We have to tell you,,, this stuff knocks these little buggers out cold. Once you understand the cycle of these pests control comes much easier. As the instructions say, within minutes these little pests are pushin up daisies and the dog is back on the road to being cleaned up. But remember, this attacks the flea, you still have to fight your way through the other 3 stages. Time you treatments out accordingly, treat at the first sign of a new flea and you'll win the battle
I have used this on three dogs and have never had ONE flea. We started all three as puppies, so they never had the chance to get any fleas and they have always been completely flea free. We live in Atlanta - long, hot, humid summers; mild winters - and have been completely happy with Program. One dog has allergies, but has not had any problem with this medicine.
This product Program which you claim is a comparable substitute for Comfortis is false. This product may possibly control fleas down the road, but does not offer immediate relief from fleas like Comfortis. It obviously does not kill immediately in 30 minutes, preventing fleas from laying more eggs and down the road sterilizing the next generation of fleas. This is the ONLY flea product that works on my dog and I won't use anything else. And I don't need to use it every month when the fleas are in check. Living in Florida, we do not have a "kill off" season. It has also helped my outdoor neutered cat indirectly by killing off any flea poplulations. Comfortis is well worth the money.
I've used Program for many years and as long as I used it, I never had a problem with fleas. It's not an "instant" cure. It takes a few months to kick in. I run a dog daycare and training facility in my home now, and I didn't want to be too exclusive, so I tried to allow people to use whatever (almost always Frontline) for fleas. I had problems! So I switched and now I require all clients to have their dogs on some sort of Program (Sentinel is what I recommend). That solves the problem! Anything else results in pesticide resistant fleas exploding in the environment. Program really works. You can read more about the whole issue if you go to my website at Whold Dog Camp and read my article "Fleas and Thank you."
My vet said we could try program to help with my 2 dogs ringworm outbreak. They are already on Ketoconazole. They already took their interceptor last week. Are these safe to take together? We will not be using frontline this month. If we go back to Frontline next month, or when they are rid of ringworm, is that safe for them? We fear hurting/drug interactions for them. They have been through so much. Got ringworm from a kitten we adopted.
There is some information to support that Program is used to treat ringworm infections but with mixed results. The dose used is much higher than that used for flea prevention so I need to assume that your veterinarian gave you specific directions for use. I am not aware of any drug interaction between Program and ketoconazole. You should, however, check with your veterinarian to see if he wants you to continue ketoconazole while using Program. One other medication that might be helpful is Clotrimazole cream. This is an antifungal medication that needs to be applied 2 times a day for 14 days, even if the lesion disappears.
