I bought this product because I read that it was good for the dog's retina, more if they have eye problems, such as dry eye. I have a shih tzu and she has dry eye. A vet recommended to put the oil (litle of it) on her eye or just give it with food. she has a medication for the eye so I was a little skeptical to do it so I decided to place it on her food. So far so good. I have to keep using the optimmune which is very expensive and give the cod liver oil to help keep the eye moisture. Has anyone try to put this on the dog's eye? She is 10 years old and healthy.
My 7 year old Border Collie had been suffering from dry skin and an allergic rash on her belly and rump. I bought medicated shampoo and vitamins from the vet. He also advised me to give her benadryl for the itching. Nothing helped. She scratched constantly and bit herself. The poor dog had multiple "hot spots" and had pulled out most of the fur on her rump, upper hind legs and base of her tail. Eventually, I had to put an E-collar on her. I bought this cod liver oil and discontinued all of the other treatments and medication. Within 2 weeks, her skin began to improve. By the time the bottle was finished, the condition was completely cured. My dog no longer scratches. Her fur is growing back. The rest of her coat is has become very shiny. This was like a miracle cure!
We got this to help in all areas that it is recommended. Right now, most noticeably, the shiny coat is what we see as a benefit from our first bottle. We will continue to use it for our two dogs. We have a Boxer and a Boxer/Lab mix. They LOVE the flavor. To them it is a treat to get each day.
I give this to all 3 of my dogs as per my vet's recommendation. However, when I followed the online instructions to refrigerate after opening, the product gets too thick and it is hard to gauge the dosage. Any recommendations? I have since kept it in the cupboard and so far, so good.
My dog is on BNP for his eye (old basset hound) Can I give him fish oil and BNP antibiotic creme for his eye? He also takes super joint supplement (2 soft chews twice daily_) Thank you Vanda Stowell and Pete (the basset hound)
Nordic Naturals Pet Cod Liver Oil and Super Joint Enhancer can be used at the same time. You can also apply the B.N.P. to the pet's eye without any concern.
The Nordic Naturals Pet Cod Liver Oil has Omega-3 fatty acids which supports healthy skin and coat, and is also beneficial for joints, heart, and the development and maintenance of the brain and retina. However, dog mange is a skin condition caused by various types of small, microscopic mites. So, while the cod liver oil can improve the look and health of your dog's skin, it will not treat mange. To properly treat mange, you would need to see your vet so he can determine what type of mange is affecting your pet.
