I have used Excel spray for about a year now. My medium-length haired cat has consistent itching and occasional eosinophilic granulomas on his lip. While a steroid injection will take care of the granuloma, I don't want him to have it unless absolutely necessary. I have found that a little Excel on the lip eliminates the granuloma and keeps him from an injection. My only wish about Excel is that the relief from itching would lasts a little longer. With my cat, the relief is about a week. However, Excel is the only product that has worked, and I have tried everything. I have recommended it to my vet's office. They appreciate knowing about something effective that is OTC.
Without hyberbole, this Excel Spray IS the best thing since since sliced Bread!! Since ______ left Pittcbugh.. But the bottom line is : it;s GRRREAT!! We bathe her, play with her-she's like a new dog! No constant itching, biting, chewing- from the very first treatment, she's like a new dog. Playful, full of energy, personality-AND her hair has grown back on her tummy and inside her legs and NO bright red ! .From the 1st time we used it, her itching has ceased to be and she doesn't smell (from the odor from constant licking, biting, itching.) Bottom line- she's one very happy pupster!,
I have ordered Excel Hydrocortisone Spray several times because when it gets low I want to keep it on hand. It really helps my longhair tabby, Harlie. I love that I can give a quick spray when I see her itching. It gives her relief right away and don't have to chase her all over to treat her.
We keep our sheltie clean and groomed, however this warm fall and a trip into the wilderness really brought a plague down on us. We have never experienced this before. Poor guy was a mess. After treating Ben, bombing and spraying everything in the house, we went systematically after him. Everywhere he scratched, we sought it out, combed it clean and applied the Excel spray. I would have to say it made an immediate difference. He stopped scratching so much and the next day, some pretty raw areas looked much more healthy. Still working through it, still using the spray.
Wow! I am so excited how fast the spray worked for my misseyboo. She was scratching so bad, I took her to the vet about 3 weeks prior to ordering the product and paid $90 for an allergy shot, but to no avail her bumps and scratching returned. However, after using the spray for 2 days, she fully recovered and was free of bumps running down her entire back.
Great question. While there are products that do have a minimum weight requirement, Excel Hydrocortisone Spray is not one of them. You can use this medication on a dog (or cat) of any weight.
Excel Hydrocortisone Spray should be applied to skin that is intact. The skin can be irritated or inflammed, but it needs to be intact. Under this circumstance, the spray should not sting or burn when applied. However, if the spray is applied to an open, or weepy wound (which it should not be), then yes, there can be stinging and/or burning when applied.
They are both excellent. Be Soothed may be a safer choice because it is not a medication. It contains Tea Tree Oil which is a natural inflammatory derived from the Malaleuca tree.
I would suggest you try your best to prevent the pet from licking the area. Not only because he might be ingesting the medication but also because if he does lick it you won't get the benefit of applying the medication.
