What is this product used for: Cosequin is a nutritional supplement to help small dogs and cats maintain healthy joints. Cosequin is an exclusive formula to support and maintain the health of the pet¿s joints.

Availability: Cosequin is a non-prescription (OTC) product available as sprinkle capsules for dogs or cats and chewable, roast beef flavor tablets for dogs.

How this product should be used:

Cosequin capsules; The usual starting dose for the first 4 to 6 weeks for dogs and cats less than 10 lbs is 1/2 to 1 capsule once a day. For dogs and cats 10-24 lbs give 2 capsules daily (1 in the morning and 1 in the evening). After 6 weeks the dose can be reduced to a maintenance level, usually 1/2 the starting dose.

Cosequin for Cats; The usual starting dose, for the first 4 to 6 weeks, for cats under 10 lbs is the contents of 1 capsule once a day and for cats over 10 lbs give the contents of 2 capsules once a day. After 4 to 6 weeks, use a maintenance dose giving the product every other day instead of once a day.

Cosequin DS Chewable; The usual starting dose, for the first 6 weeks, for dogs under 10 lbs is 1/2 tablet once a day, for dogs 10 to 24 lbs give 1 tablet once a day, for dogs 25-49 lbs give 1 tablet twice a day (1 in the morning and 1 in the evening), for dogs 50 to 100 lbs give 3 tablets daily (2 in the morning and 1 tablet in the evening), and for dogs over 100 lbs give 4 tablets daily (2 in the morning and 2 in the evening). After 6 weeks, the dog may be placed on a maintenance dose, usually 1/2 the starting dose.

Cosequin DS Capsule; The usual starting dose for the first 4 to 6 weeks for dogs 10-24 lbs is 1 capsule daily, for dogs 25-49 lbs is 1 capsule twice a day, for dogs 50-100 lbs give 2 capsules in the morning and 1 capsule in the evening, and for dogs over 100 lbs give 2 capsules twice a day, After 4 to 6 weeks, the dose can be reduced gradually (1/2 to 1 capsule per month) until a maintenance dose, one-half the starting dose, is reached

What are the side effects: Side effects are rare but may include diarrhea.

What special precautions are there: This product is not intended to be used in place of other treatments in the presence of an infection or if surgery is needed. Glucosamine, in humans, may increase insulin resistance and consequently affect glucose tolerance. Diabetic dogs or dogs that are overweight and have problems with glucose tolerance should have their blood sugars monitored if they are given glucosamine supplements. 

In the event of overdose: Overdose is not likely but may result in diarrhea.

How should I store this product: Store the container in a cool, dry area out of direct sunlight. Keep the lid tightly closed. Keep out of the reach of children.
