What is Cosequin for Dogs?

Cosequin for Dogs is a nutritional supplement that helps dogs maintain healthy joints. It has been rated the number one veterinarian-recommended joint health supplement brand. Cosequin's active ingredients include glucosamine and chondroitin, and it can have a positive impact on joint health, while avoiding the side effects that can sometimes accompany prescription drugs. It is available in regular strength capsules and regular strength and double strength capsules and chewable tablets.

For:

Dogs

Benefits:
  • Supports & maintains joint and connective tissue health
  • Helps support cartilage matrix production & protects existing cartilage from breakdown
  • The double strength formula contains 500 mg of glucosamine and 400 mg of chondroitin
  • Comes highly recommended by veterinarians
  • No reported side effects
How Cosequin Works:

Cosequin for Dogs contains glucosamine, which is a natural compound that is found in healthy cartilage in both humans and pets. It helps hydrate healthy joints by increasing the production of molecules that bind and hold water in the cartilage. Healthy cartilage provides cushioning which helps protect a pet's joints while exercising. Many believe that it provides clinical benefit in the synovial fluid by strengthening cartilage and aiding glycosaminoglycan synthesis. Further research on the effectiveness of glucosamine is still needed, but many of our customers find it to be very beneficial to their pets. The glucosamine is used in conjunction with sodium chondroitin sulfate, an important structural component of cartilage that provides much of its resistance to compression.

Cautions:

Side effects are rare, but may include diarrhea.

Customer Reviews
Cosequin is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 70.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A new lease of life Our 12 year old dog Lily had surgery for her acl. After a long and careful recovery she then started to limp again on the same leg. The vet said it was her meniscus and she would need surgery to repair it - we didn't want her or us to go through all this again.I did some legwork and decided to try her on COSEQUIN. Well she is like a puppy again and no sign of the limp. The leg is clearly weaker than the other but stronger than it was. I highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Miracle! Someone recommended cosequin for our 11 year old dog who had suddenly become very lethargic. We suspected he was in pain and xrays showed arthritis in hip. Started him on cosequin and he's feeling like a puppy again! Actually brought the ball over to play! We now have all of our other dogs on maintenance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Walking Again! My girl Jazz is a 7 year old golden/cocker mix and has hip dysplasia and arthritis. She limped when she walked and when she tried to play would whimper when she would try to run. I could tell she wasn't enjoying her life and decided to try the Cosequin. After a couple of days I could see a difference. She was able to walk again without pain and now is even playing and enjoying life. I am so glad that I bought this product and will continue to do so.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Be Careful! Wrong image appears I bought t his recently. When you go to the Cosequin page it shows an image of chewable tabs bottle and an order option is hilited with a yellow square around one order option. This is not the order option for chewable tabs! I now have a bottle of big capsules that are not chewable.

Q&A

My dogs are going to be 7 yrs old in May. I'd like to start them on a joint supplement before they get a chance to get arthritis. I want to try the Cosequin. Do I have to start with the initial dose for 6 weeks or can I just start the maintenance dose?

Asked by: Staffiemom
Yes, if your dogs have not been on Cosequin, it is recommended to start with the initial dosing for the first 6 weeks. It is all weight based dosing. You would start with 1/2 tablet every day for dogs under 10lbs, 1 tab every day for dogs 10-24lbs, 1 tab twice a day for dogs 25-49lbs, 3 tabs a day for dogs 50-100lbs, or for dogs over 100lbs 4 tabs a day. Then after 6 weeks, these can be reduced following the instructions based on your dogs weight. Hope this helps.

What is the best puppy vitamins and food

Asked by: Paris
There are multiple brands which produce equally healthy puppy food options. No matter what brand you settle on, look for the AAFCO (American Association of Feed Control Officials) label on the bag. All foods that bear that label will give your puppy the proper blend of vitamins and minerals, as regulated by the organization. It is important to note, however, that many of the generic brands meet only the minimum requirements stipulated by the AAFCO, and you should consider a premium variety of food throughout the important developmental stages of your dog.
