Advantage II is a monthly flea preventative for dogs and cats that offers comprehensive flea protection by killing adult fleas, larvae, and eggs. Advantage II also treats, prevents, and controls lice on dogs. Advantage II does not kill ticks, so we recommend using the Preventic Tick Collar along with Advantage II (dogs only).
For: Dogs (7 weeks of age or older) Cats (8 weeks of age or older)
Benefits:
•
Kills fleas within 12 hours of application
•
Kills all flea life stages including flea eggs and larvae to prevent infestation
•
Treats, prevents, and controls lice infestations (dogs only)
•
Safe and easy to apply
•
Waterproof - remains effective even if pet gets wet
How it works:
The first active ingredient is imidacloprid, which acts on the nervous system of the flea to cause paralysis and subsequent death. Within 12 hours of application, 98-100 percent of fleas are dead. The second active ingredient, pyriproxyfen, is an insect growth regulator. Once a female flea lays her eggs, pyriproxyfen works to prevent the eggs from hatching, ending the flea life cycle.
Cautions:
Individual sensitivities, while rare, may occur after using any pesticide product for pets. If signs persist, or become more severe, consult a veterinarian immediately. Do not get this product in your pet's eyes or mouth.

Directions:
•
Apply Advantage II once a month every month.
•
For dogs up to 20 lbs, part the pet's hair between the shoulder blades until you can see the skin. Place the tip of the applicator on the skin and release all of the tube's contents on a single spot directly on the skin.
•
For dogs 21 lbs and over, apply entire contents of the tube evenly in 3 or 4 spots on the top of the back from the shoulder to the base of the tail. At each spot, part the hair until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the applicator on the skin and release a portion of the Advantage II solution directly on the skin. Do not apply an excessive amount of solution at any one spot that could cause some of the solution to run off the side of the dog.
•
For kittens and cats, place the applicator tip through the cat's hair to the skin on the neck at the base of the skull and release all of the tube's contents on a single spot directly on the skin.
•
Use only one applicator per treatment.
Tip: Under normal conditions Advantage II is effective for a month. However, in case of severe flea infestation, retreatment may be necessary earlier than four weeks. Do not re-treat more often than once every seven days. After flea control is obtained, return to a monthly treatment.

Advantage II
Great product .... ease of application and has made a significant difference in the amount of fleas on my dogs, however, I live in San Diego where fleas are abundant and it is extremely hard for any product to completely rid animals fo fleas.

Flea medication easy to administer. Speed to order and delivery exceptional. Friendly associate. Very low cost compared to Vet's office. Have ordered several years from PetMeds.

This stuff reall works
I have two cats and was using frontline with no success. Switched to advantage and had NO fleas within a couple of days. Now my cats and I are very happy.

The ingredients in both products are the same but the dosages are not. The Advantage II 11-20 pounds should not be used on a dog that weight 8-9 pounds due to the overdose possibilty. Your dog should be using Advantage II 1-10 pounds.
The 11-20 dosage is to strong and has to much medication for a 8-9 pound dog. The 1-10 pound dosage should be used in this scenario. Give your furry pal a belly rub from us.
You may over medicate your 8-9 pound dog if you give your furry baby the 11-20 pound dosage. The Advantage 11-20 pound formula comes in a 1.0 ml tube. The 1-10 pound formula comes in a 0.4 ml tube. So there is a bit more medication in the larger weight tube. We recommend using the 1-10 pound weight range for your furry baby to prevent over medicating your furry baby.....
Advantage II is an over the counter flea preventative. The only Advantage which is prescription required is if it has heartworm medication such as Advantage Multi.
I have put it on my 2 cats last Monday or Tuesday. One is fine, but another one is not eating anything for 4-5 days. She is smaller than the first one and she is out door cat but always come to my deck to eat and sleep. I am not sure it is because of the medicine, but she wasn't like this before.
It would be tough to tell if the medication applied is directly causing the loss of appetite since the pet being affected is the outdoor cat. It's possible your cat has located another source of food in the neighborhood. Despite the cause, any cat who refuses to eat for that amount of time would benefit from being evaluated by a veterinarian as inappetence in cats is a big concern. Please contact your veterinarian to discuss these symptoms.
Hi again, we spoke on the phone earlier. You mentioned your Furry Friend weighed under 9lbs but you used the 9lbs the advantage 9lbs and over. Definitely Follow up with the vet about your concerns since the stronger dose was accidentally used on him. Moving forward order the advantage under 9lbs that will definitely work for your Furry Friend and not be too strong for him! :)
