Question:I am out of Willie Gs heart Guard and I cant get him tested for heart worms because the vets are closed due to the corona virus! Im worried that he may get it because I dont have any more meds for him...

Answer:A veterinarian who has met him in person must ok the prescription. Rules are really changing and relaxing so email a veterinarian that has met him in person and they will probably sell it to you or ok a prescription online.

Question:I would like to order heart gaurd and nexguard for my healthy 8 year old chocolate lab. He has been on heart guard since he was a puppy. Because what is going on right now I fear taking him to the vet even though they are saying he needs another heart guard test. He is never been off heart worm or flea medication. Can I please order these products for my Labrador without a vet visit???

Answer:You have to get approval from a veterinarian that has met your pup in person. Most veterinarians have relaxed their rules on this and will just walk it out to your car and/or approve a prescription online so call or email a veterinarian that has met him in person.

Question:Is it necessary to have my dog get tested again for Heartworm when it was done as a puppy, is now 2 1/2 years young and has been on heartworm med faithfully each month to date.?

Answer:Yes, it is ideal -especially if you live near a lot of mosquitos - especially if s/he hasn't been tested in a few years like that.

Question:My dog started his two month heartworm treatment but he didn't finish the doxycycline before the vet started. It was awhile after he was diagnosed before I could start the treatment. I started giving him the medicine and made an appointment to see if he could still do the treatment but my vet went ahead and just started it. The vet office is closed and I need to know if I should still give him what's left or not.

Answer:Sorry in the delay of this response, we had technically difficulties this weekend, which is rare, but for your question, the ideal person to ask is the veterinarian that is treating him - will be based on lots of things (severity, dosage, whether it's upsetting his stomach, how well he's eating, etc etc), so give them a call if you haven't already.

Question:Hi, I would like to give my 70 lbs dog medication for the heartworm and stomach worm. Please, tell me, if I can do it without providing any tests at the vet clinic. If yes, what would be a dosage and what medication type is better to choose. Thanks in advance, Maksim Golodets.

Answer:In the United States, a test and face-to-face meeting with a veterinarian is required to legally obtain prescription medication like heartworm prevention.

Question:Hi. I am trying to figure ot out, if we should hive our 70 lbc dog a heartworm and stomach worm medication before the test was done. Preventive. If yes, what exactly medicine and what dosage should I order. Thank you for your help. Maksim.

Answer:The test first is definitely ideal. To order medication, at least in the United States, a prescription is necessary, from a veterinarian that has met them face-to-face so they can test at that time.

Question:My dog was tested negative for Heartworm. What is the best heartworm preventative and is your generic just as good as Heartguard Plus.

Answer:My dog takes Heartgard, and yes, the generics are just as good = same active ingredient. Then they pair nicely with either Nexgard or Bravecto for fleas and ticks when you need those.

Question:My dog is heartworm positive. She had her first injection a week and a half ago. I forgot she is not to take the heartguard during injection protocol and gave her her monthly heartguard pill. Her vets office is closed until Monday. Do I need to be concerned?

Answer:Watch for trouble breathing, not eating, vomiting and lethargy - it really depends on the severity of her heartworm infestation, but she will probably be fine. If you see any of those signs or anything out of the ordinary for her, have the emergency clinic check her out.

Question:We've been giving our dog, now 8 years, 10 months old, the Tri-Heart Plus heartworm medicine since we got her as a puppy. Both last month, and this month she spits it out and won't chew them. Is there an alternative to the chewable available?

Answer:Heartgard is the same medication, but comes in a tastier chew. It's a little more expensive. Here is a link to read about it, with the price: https://www.1800petmeds.com/Heartgard+Plus+Chewables-prod10002.html
