Question:My Chocolate Lab, Cocoa has been taking Novox 100mg for years. It does not seem to give the same result as in the past, perhaps her arthritis is worse. Is there another medication that you would recommend in lieu of the Novox. Thank you.

Answer:Novox is probably one of the best NSAIDs so I would continue using it but adding some other medication/treatment may be necessary. It really depends on her actual underlying issue for choosing what's best for her though so your veterinarian is the best one to ask - they will know about what is available in your area as well as far as cold laser treatments, acupuncture, physical or hydrotherapy, etc etc.

Question:During the day our dog seems to walk and run and get around pretty good, but when he falls to sleep he will wake up screaming with pain until you lift him up. Could this be from the joints seizing up while he sleeps or possibily be from another cause?

Answer:Waking up "screaming with pain" is so unusual that you really should get that on video on your phone and take it to your veterinarian and have them do a good orthopedic exam on him.

Question:My dog has a slight limb in her rear that is reoccurring with her jumps. She is 9.5 years old and is a Sheltie. Her vet gave us 0.25mg Carprofen and 100mg Gabapentin which is almost gone. She also been on Cosequin DS for over a year. Any recommendations ??

Answer:It depends a little on why she is limping (torn cruciste, luxating patella, hip dysplasia, etc.) and what is available in your area but there are many other options nowadays: cold laser therapy, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, physical therapy, etc.) so consult your veterinarian for the best advice.

Question:is it ok to give my 12 yr old dog gabapentin and hycodan at night before bed

Answer:Gabapentin yes. It would depend on why you are giving the hycodan, but probably not - we don't use that much in dogs, especially at his age.

Question:My brothers 130 pound American Bully has hip displacement in the right hip joint. The vet recommended hip replacement surgery but he is only 3 years old. We immediately put him on Glucocemene and the effects were great for a a few months, but it has come back worse. Is there any other treatment, chiropractic maybe that could help?

Answer:I would need to examine him and look at his radiographs (x-rays) to really be able to help you. There are MANY treatment options available all based on severity. Question:Hi, I have a 9 year old black lab that just had ACL surgery. She's doing very well. It's been about 2 months since surgery. She weights about 90 lbs. She's lost about 10 lbs and has about 10lbs more to lose. She has Arthritis in her hips but is still pretty active. She's on Galiprant now. Can she be on that forever? Is there anything else I could do or give her to help with her arthritis? Her only complaint I can see is that she has slowed down a bit but still runs around and goes up and down our stairs. I'm just afraid it will get worse. Sue Lock

Answer:She's on Galiprant now. Can she be on that forever? Yes, as long as her blood work rechecks stay normal. Is there anything else I could do or give her to help with her arthritis? Yes - the weight loss is most important, but then ask your veterinarian if starting her on supplements like omega 3 fatty acids, glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM might be right for her. Also ask about cold laser therapy, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, physical therapy to see which if these is available in your area and might be right for her.

Question:My dog takes amlodipine for high blood pressure. Shes 13 years old. I want to get her some vitamin supplements for arthritis. A lot of the supplements I see have tumeric in them. Is that a problem? Are there any drug interactions I need to know before I choose a joint supplement for her?
