Advantage Flea Control for Dogs and Cats

Advantage II flea control for dogs and cats

Advantage is a topical flea control medication for dogs (over 7 weeks old) and cats (over 8 weeks old). When applying flea control products to your pet, remember to apply it on the skin between their shoulder blades, on their back, or down their back from the shoulder to the tail.

Advantage flea preventative is applied once a month in such a place on the animal so that they cannot lick the medicine off. It's important to remember that if you have more then one pet, all pets in the household are treated, which helps to eliminate the likelihood of future infestations.

If you're interested in preventing heartworms as well as fleas, you should try Advantage Multi. Advantage Multi is formulated to repel against fleas, heartworms, hookworms, and whipworms.

Before administering any medication, such as Advantage or Advantage Multi, you should consult your veterinarian.

Using Advantage II clea control medicine

It is important to use caution when applying Advantage to your pet as it can cause eye irritation in humans and is harmful if swallowed. Use household gloves to avoid the flea medication from coming into contact with your skin. If Advantage is swallowed, call your local poison control center immediately. If by accident you do get Advantage on your skin, wash with plenty of soap and water, and if Advantage gets into your eyes, flush them out with plenty of water.

Misuse of Advantage II

Compared to other flea medications, Advantage is considered to be a safer flea preventative because it does not contain permethrin. Permethrin is a synthetic chemical found in many insecticides. "Misuse of flea preventative products with permethrin can cause serious side effects, so it is important for all pet owners to always read product labels and follow the directions carefully," says Steve Hansen, D.V.M., director of the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center.
