Vet Review | As a holistic oriented veterinarian I am always welcoming natural products and alternatives to chemicals and prescription drugs. Over the past several years I have found Duralactin for dogs to be a very versatile product useful in a lot of clinical situations. That patented dried milk protein concentrate is believed to help manage inflammatory conditions long term, and I have found that this product will often effectively reduce the need for cortisone or non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs that may have side effects in dogs. I often find this all natural product increases normal activity and wellness and I have used it in chronic inflammatory conditions of the skin, respiratory and digestive tract in both dogs and cats. I have seen no side effects when using this product in dogs and give the product an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5. As I mentioned under my product review for Duralactin for dogs, Duralactin for cats is wonderful nondrug alternative choice for treating various inflammatory conditions of the skin, respiratory and digestive tract. In many cases I may often use this product as an alternative to cortisone and non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs for these conditions in our cats, which will often cut down on unwanted side effects. The patented dried milk protein concentrate is the main effective ingredient. Some cats may be sensitive to milk proteins and/or carbohydrates. If vomiting or diarrhea occurs, the product should be discontinued due to a likely allergic reaction. Because of the versatility of this product for so many feline conditions, I give this product an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5. | Vetrin Aspirin product review: In recent years there has been the development of many newer nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs to help manage both acute and chronic pain for a variety of medical conditions from arthritis and spinal problems, to post surgical management of pain. While these newer drugs are often considered somewhat more effective and safer than older drugs like aspirin, they are also much more expensive. In my opinion and experience over many years of veterinary practice, products like vetrin aspirin are often comparibly effective to these newer drugs, and I have even found vetrin to be effective at lower than recommended dosages than the label suggests, as low as 3 to 5 mg per pound once or twice daily as needed. As with any products of the nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drug class, I always recommend vet exams and blood work before starting such over the counter medicines. As is also the case with drugs of this class, occasional digestive and less common kidney/liver issues can occur with both short or long term use in very sensitive pets. However at lower dosages and with periodic vet exams both before and when using this product longer term, I have found this product quite effective, especially when used with joint supplements like super joint enhancer from 1800petmeds. I give this product an overall rating of a 4, with an efficacy a 4 and taste/ease of use a 5. | As a holistic-oriented veterinarian, I am always looking for nondrug alternatives to help our pets who suffer from many chronic inflammatory disorders, including crippling arthritis, frustrating itchy skin allergies, and inflammatory digestive disorders. In my 17 year veterinary career I have often been disappointed by "supposed" new miracle cures that are always coming across my desk or that clients share with me from the internet. When the great company azmira developed their version of Yucca, I was very excited to try it for some of these difficult conditions, especially given the lack of truly effective natural alternatives that work. After using this product for a few years now, I can say that it is an outstanding, and proven safe all natural supplement. With its powerful natural steroidal saponins, the anti inflammatory effects for skin, digestive and joint disorders has led to remarkable results in treating these conditions. I have often combined using this product, along with the powerful antioxidant proanthozone, and the Super Pure omega 3 fatty acids from 1800petmeds to all work together in helping naturally each of these frustrating conditions. Because of the reduced blood flow from injured tissue swelling and inflammation, yucca can help cleanse the liver and kidneys as well by promoting blood flow and tissue repair. The only downside I see to using this product is its bitter taste, which does make it difficult to administer to some animals. This is a plus, however when using the product topically to treat allergic hot spots on the skin, or to prevent a pet from biting or gnawing at a certain area of the body. Some tips I have given clients in easing administration, is to perhaps give the yucca orally in a little gravy, olive oil, a pets favorite canned food, yogurt, or with some peanut butter on a piece of small bread. This often gets around the bitter taste of this highly concentrated product. However those who try it, especially with the above synergistic supplements, will not be disappointed in most cases. I give this product an overall rating of 5, an effectiveness of 4.5, and a taste of 2(however with the above tips, administering it should not be a problem |
