Ingredients | Flunixin Meglumine | Diclofenac Sodium (1%) in a base composed of Phospholipon 90H, propylene glycol, alcohol (5.94%), vitamin E acetate, benzethonium chloride and purified water. | |
Does it have long-term side effects? | Repeated dermal contact to high concentrations may cause severe skin irritation. Prolonged inhalation may produce serious lung effects. Repeated ingestion or inhalation of high doses may cause internal bleeding, predominantly of the gastrointestinal tract. | Serious adverse reactions associated with this drug class can occur without warning and, in rare instances, result in death. Discontinue the use of Surpass and contact your veterinarian immediately if these signs are observed. Other side effects may also occur. Talk to your veterinarian about any side effect that seems unusual or bothersome to the animal. | |
Cautions | In horses, isolated reports of localized reactions following I.M. injection, particularly in the neck, have been received. These include localized swelling, sweating, induration, and stiffness. In rare instances in horses, fatal or nonfatal clostridial infections or other infections have been reported in association with I.M. use. In rare instances, anaphylactic-like reactions, some of which have been fatal, have been reported, primarily following I.V. use. | Surpass should not be used with any other anti-inflammatory medications such as other NSAIDs (aspirin, phenylbutazone, flunixin) and corticosteroids (cortisone, prednisone, dexamethasone, triamcinolone). Drugs other than those listed may also interact with Surpass. Talk to your veterinarian or pharmacist before giving any prescription or over the counter (OTC) medicines. Surpass is for topical use in horses only. Surpass should not be used in horses exhibiting allergic reactions to diclofenac. Surpass is not for use in horses intended for food. The safety of Surpass in horses less than 1 year of age, in horses used for breeding, pregnant mares, or mares nursing foals has not been determined. Surpass topical cream is contraindicated in animals with known hypersensitivity to diclofenac. | |
