Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would not recommend this product We were optimistic about this product because of the great reviews we read, but unfortunately this not only did not help reduce our dog's itchiness and constant licking but it actually made him sick. We only tried it for a little over a week but had to stop because he started having uncontrollable drooling (and he never drools) and his licking got worse. He also started having bad gas so it must have been upsetting his stomach. He hated the taste as well which made it difficult to give to him, even though we mixed it in with food - he seemed to be able to detect the smell in anything. Very disappointing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disapointing Our dog has allergies. Lots of allergies and I was hopping to avoid the allergy shots with this. He had been on prednisone which has side affects, bad side affects. We had taken him off that and was hopping this would work as a replacement, since it was natural. It didn't work in our case. Even with an increased dose it did not work. Still scratching and licking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great in conjunction with allergy meds I started using this product because my cat has terrible allergies that leave him with open hot spots on his neck. It is not a cure-all for him, but used in conjunction with Zyrtec allergy pills his hot spots have been gone for months. If we miss a dose or two of Yucca he gets itchy again so I know the Yucca is a major help. I mix the Yucca with a little extra low sodium tuna to get him to take it and haven't had a problem so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Helpful for allergies I have been giving my Schnauzer/Yorkie mix Yucca Intensive for a few weeks. I mix one drop in a spoonful of greek yogurt twice a day and she thinks it is a treat. After about 3 weeks of using this product her skin is clear and scab free. She in no longer scratching or chewing her paws. Before using this product she was taking Prednisone and Benedryl for her allergies. She is no longer taking the the Prednisone and is on half of her regular dosage for the Benedryl. Great results for my dog.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked for my dog I purchased this for my 15 year old Coon Hound mix. She had a terrible skin condition which we just could not get under control. She had been on antibiotics for over a year and the meds were just too much for her weakened immune system. We took her off all prescription meds and put her on natural products only (as well as her thyroid pill which was still an Rx). The Yucca Intensive did not cure her but it definitely did help keep her skin condition from getting any worse once we took her off the prescriptions. As an added benefit, it really seemed to help with her back legs which was a huge plus! She had stopped squatting down to urinate because of the pain in her back legs, but after putting her on the Yucca Intensive she was able to squat again. If you are looking for a natural product, I would definitely give this a try!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing product! My poor pit mix girl has spent most of her 2 years with horrible skin issues. After more than a year of expensive foods thinking that she had food allergies, hundreds of dollars in vet visits (2 different ones) for them to simply give her more antibiotics and $50each "medicated" baths which were ineffective, I read up on this product which was highly recommended by a vet along with Betagen (anti-bacterial spray also sold through 1800Petmeds). Since I had already spent so much money on trying to cure her, I decided to give the combination a try. At first I thought that it was such a simple and inexpensive "cure" that it couldn't possibly work. Well, to my surprise and total delight, my baby girl IS finally cured of all her skin problems. I am beyond thrilled since I would suffer more seeing her with her skin problems than she ever let on that they even bothered her. I love my baby. I AM a believer of this and will continue to keep her on it!! Thank you, Sasha's mom!

His nose has always been crusty and ugly and just a pain in his butt no doubt. I've tried it all, but I can say that after 5 days of applying this to Cash's nose, it's nearly completely normal..I'm a believer, and Cash and I thank you for this product..

It did however help his dry eye condition when nothing else would work, including very expensive salve my vet subscribed for him. Imagine my surprise at this unexpected result. No more goopy eye for him and a significant savings for me.

Now after a month his hair is thick and no more bald spots! I just add 2 drops to his food with every meal. Very happy with this product and will continue to use it!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No results My Yorkie has some serious skin issues (resembles cradle cap) that seem to flair up more in the winter months. Steroid shots seem to be a temporary fix but I hate to keep giving her steroids so I thought I would give the Yucca Intensive a try. I saw no difference in her skin problem after giving her the Yucca. It was worth a try but it was not a success for us. I will say she had no problem taking it in cottage cheese. She actually looked forward to getting it everyday so that is why I rated the taste as 4 stars. Apparently it must taste ok or she wouldn't have taken it so easily!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product We love this product. Our Daisy is 11 years old and has been on some kind of arthritis medicine since she was 5. She'd been taking Medicam for the past 2 years and we went from that to Yucca Intensive and she's doing the best she has in years. She also had a few thinning spots in her coat that filled in beautifully. We've told everyone we know about it, on this past order I ordered 2 bottles, one to give to my brother for his lab. If you haven't tried this yet, you can't go wrong. No side effects, less than 1/2 the cost of any prescription medication.

(which she was NOT happy about!) I prefer homeopathic for myself, so I was very glad to see this Yucca product. i have used it for Alice the past few years and not only does her skin stay soft, she's also not so uptight! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific Product!! My husband and I have an Olde English Bulldogge and a Boxer that have HORRIBLE seasonal allergies. They both break out in pimple-like hives all over their bodies that eventually break open and become scabbed and crusted. They also have experienced hair loss at the sites that have scabbed over numerous times. We have had the dogs on prescription medications, shampooed them with medicated shampoos, used different recommended sprays, ointments, etc...NOTHING worked! Our next step was allergy testing, and we just didn't want to subject our "kids" to that. So I went on 1-800-PetMeds and researched Yucca Intensive and figured that I would give it a shot (along with Omega 3). It has worked wonders!!! Our Boxer's hives completely went away within a couple of weeks, and have not returned with continued use; and our Olde English Bulldogge's hives have become much, much better (although not completely gone). Thank you so much!!!

I knew this dog well my son kind of grew up around this dog and it was a very skinny frisky dog. In the past 3 years over time she had gained weight and was very slow and the vet said she had arthritis about 1 year ago so they put her on pain medication and said it was only time and that she needed to loose weight. I do not know about you but have you ever seen a bishons face hard to help them loose weight. So I went on line and found this product about 8 months ago the pain Meds were not helping. The dog has been taking this for 8 Months now she has loosed 8 pounds is running around and feeling great my mom puts it in a spoon full of ice cream so no bitter taste every night. We felt even if it gave her another year with less pain but it looks like she is out of pain completely. I am so happy about this product because I know what this dog means to my mom and my son.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from miracle I have two older (11 and 12) large dogs, around 90 pounds. They were both so crippled that they could not do our morning walks without a lot of discomfort. I started them on yucca intensive and within three-four weeks they had a rebirth. It has been especially helpful for the one that is half Rot. I just mix eight drops in their food morning and evening. No apparent bad side effects after two years.

I was delighted to find a product that is made from natural ingredients and is not a prescription drug. Yucca Intensive lives up to its billing. I can really see a difference in my dog's gait if she isn't on it, and she doesn't seem to mind or even notice the taste in her water. Chilled water or ice cubes in the water dish may help to start.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I can't beleive the difference! My 8 year old Golden has always had mild allergies during early Spring. This year was different. She was scratching herself to pieces. Nasty wounds all over her tummy, her face and front elbows from scratching with her back feet. I was beside myself. I tried all kinds of remedies both medical and physical (t shirt and babies socks to cover the elbows) to no avail. The only thing that relieved it was Prednisone which off course my vet would only prescribe for a few days at a time. I researched and came across Yucca Oil and its purported steroidal qualities. I was skeptical but having tried so many other things I ordered some. OMG, it's less than 2 weeks and she has basically stopped scratching. All the wounds are scabbing over nicely and falling off. This has been a God send!. She also has a new spring in her step and is not struggling so much to get up. I am recommending it to all our friends at the dog park.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Try this as an alternative to the prescriptions After the yearly check up at the vet and some discussion as to my Cocker Spaniel's joint issues, I left the office with a trial prescription of an anti-inflammatory that worked out to $110 per month. I went to the PetMeds site originally to check for less expensive prescriptions and to order some aspirin. I read the Yucca Intensive description and decided to try it as an alternative to the prescription from the vet. I noticed a difference in under a week. After three weeks her gait has returned to more of the happy trot rather than what had become her normal slow walk. She has more interest in playing with her ball and less trouble getting up and down the stairs. I put the drops in with her food. She does not seem to notice. I am surprised and pleased at the results.

Sometimes she would scratch until the skin was raw and bleeding. This fall a friend recommended Yucca Intensive. Within a week her itching lessened and now she scratches no more than any normal dog. Her coat has resumed it's normal thickness. I think that this product has also helped her minor joint issues. I am so grateful for Yucca Intensive. Our lives are so much better! She is eager to take her Yucca each morning and evening because I mix it with a little of her favorite canned food.

We started giving him the Yucca Intensive and within a couple of weeks he was walking just fine. At one point, we had stopped giving him his usual dosage for about two weeks and his limp returned. When we resumed the Yucca he no longer had issues. We truly believe in this product. Our Bichon is about 20 lbs. and we give him two drops daily with his food.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Helped with Pano aka Growing Pains I have just turned 1 y/o GSD named Sgt Schultz who had gone thru his 3rd bout with pano. I did not like the side effects that were explained to me by my vet for the meds he was taking. On his 3rd bout I decided to look here to see if there was an alternitive and found this product. Very easy to use, and within 3 or 4 days by boy was becoming full of life again, a week later there was no limping or yelping and he was ready to go right back chasing his ball and the random neighborhood cat that came in the yard. This product is the best and plan on buying it again once my supply runs out to help prevent anouther pano outbreak.

He has had surgery on both knees; and has started getting arthritis in his paws. Because if stomach issues, he can't take glucosimine or condroitin but tolerates the yucca well. Also I highly recommend yucca if your dog cant take rymydel because of liver complications. Give it a try' it worked for us

One of them has developed arthritis in his rear knee, and prior to using Yucca Intensive, wouldn't put any weight on that leg. After about 2 weeks of using Yucca, he is putting weight on that leg again and you can tell he feels so much better, even initiating play with his brother, which he hasn't done in months. I strongly recommend this product for anyone who has a pet with arthritis or joint pain. It is very easy to use. Just mix it in their food with gravy or canned, and they don't know the difference.

He is about 12 or 13, and has severe arthritis so maybe he is just too far along for a reversal of any kind. I did discover the best way to give it to him-mix it with honey and then in his food. He loved it. If you can afford it, get raw honey as it helps arthritis too, but the store kind is ok for this purpose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING RESULTS My cat, Bam Bam, is 15 1/2 years old and weighs 17 pounds and he somehow tore the ligament over his knee and was dragging his hind leg, crying out in pain. He just laid in one spot, hiding under the table, afraid to move because of the pain. My vet said rather then do surgery, start him on liquid condroitin which is an inflamatory for the joints, but when i read the reviews I was very hesitant to give this to Bam Bam, he has a weak stomach. Then I saw the advertisement for organic liquid Yucca Intensive and decided to try this product instead. AMAZING RESULTS! The first 2 days I gave him 2 drops of Yucca twice a day. I mixed it with about 2 tablespoons of chunk light tuna in water and I added extra water and mixed it up really well, and Bam Bam never knew he was eating the Yucca which has a very bitter taste so you must mix the Yucca with food, but I noticed he was constipated so I then dropped the dosage down to only 1 drop, 2X a day, and it corrected the problem of constipation. By the 4th day, he was moving around and walking, no longer hiding, but still guarding his injured leg. After a week and a half, he was back to jumping on the sofa and on my bed again but I still prefer to pick him up when I see him about to jump. He's very careful with that leg, but he's doing wonderful. My vet said after about a month, scar tissue would begin to cover the ligament and he would be feeling much better. I'll continue giving Bam Bam his "treat" of tuna fish 2X a day, in addition to his normal food. I highly recommend Yucca!

We have an arthritic , 60 pound, 10 year old Airedale . Because of stomach issues she is unable to take pain meds. We ordered yucca intensive. Answers are confusing on your web site. Bottle directions are 1 drop / every 10 pounds deluted in 1 tablespoon warm water... So, 6 drops in 1 tablespoon or 6 drops , in 6 tablespoons water.... Many thanks....

My chow chow is 62 pounds at age 16 (years old). I use 6 drops in his favorite soft dog food and is very happy now and plays with his younger brothers now. It took a week for him to show signs of less pain in his right leg which has arthritis

Yucca administration issue. He eats less than a bird. Tiny & picky little dear!

I can't get my 12 yr. old rescue Chihuahua to take the yucca intensive in ANYTHING I put it in !! I dilute it properly but he is the most finicky little dog I've ever fed! He was raised on human food all his life I think.Sometimes he snarls & tries to bite me & other people. he only has top teeth. I'm on a set income & I spent a lot of money on this. What can I do? HELP!!!

Hi there, Since he is eating human food, Yucca is best given when hidden in a piece of chicken, Cottage cheese, yogurt or cheese. You may also disguise it in peanut butter and dilute it in water or apple juice.

Can the yucca solution be mix with milk so I can give it to my cat?...

Yes you can to dilute it with 5 tbsp or more of water, juice or milk to disguise the bitter flavor. You can also mix it in with your pets food.

what is the dose for a 5lb chihuahua/ IS IT SAFE, SHE HAS SEVERE ITCHING FROM ALLERGIES

My chihuahua is approximately 9-10 yrs old and is not on any other medication. She has seen a doctor, was given steroids and it cleared up. It always is gradually coming back to itch. Tried different soap powder, the one for babies. It did not help. I don't see any fleas on her. I bath her in oatmeal shampoo. If this helps her, Can I try this without asking a vet before I order this product. Poor thing, she is itching badly, losing her hair, and getting sores from scratching. Please advise. Thank . Can my 61 pound Corgi/Beagle mix (11yrs) take Yucca Intensive with Synthroid?

He is very much overweight as I'm not able to walk him at this time. He does have a thyroid condition and takes Synthroid .6 twice a day. I do have him on 1/2 cup Pennacle dog food twice a day. Also, what about giving him Flex-a-min or Bio Flex or something similar? It contains Vitamin D and I'm not clear as to whether or not Vitamin D is okay to give a dog.

It should be okay to give him the Yucca, but it is always good to discuss with your veterinarian when adding any over-the-counter medications to your pets routine. It would not be recommended to give your pet any human formulations such as Bio Flex. Pets should be given medication that has been made for them and will also help ensure that they are getting the correct dose based on their weight.

Is it effective when placed inside gel capsule?

I have a 20 yr old arthritic cat. Since this product has such a bitter taste, would it still be effective if I placed the drop inside an empty gel cap & then gave the gel cap to my cat?

This is not advised. The Yucca Intensive dose of 1 drop needs to be diluted into 15ml or 1/2 ounce of water prior to giving to your cat.

Shiloh is 12 1/2 yrs old, takes Novox daily. Just curious if the two can be taken together.

Would this help with Degenertive Disc Disease?

Can I give my Scotty Yucca for itching on her Paws & Private area or should I give her Benydryl or something else?

You can certainly give Yucca a try. I use it in conjunction with an allergy pill my vet suggested. As I understand it, Benedryl is not a quick solution for itching, and there are negative side-effects such as drowsiness. The best thing you can do is consult a vet to find the cause of the problem, and discuss potential meds. It could be as simple as an over-the-counter allergy pill. But only your vet can tell you the correct med and dosage for your vet.

can this med be used for hot spots directly on the skin

It is my understanding (as a non-veterinarian) that you can apply this product to a hot spot to discourage chewing, as the taste is extremely bitter. I wouldn't apply it to an open wound though.

Is Yucca toxic for pets?

The ASPCA and Pet Poison Helpline lists Yucca as toxic to cats, dogs and horses. How is this product different? Is it the root that is not toxic? Is it a different species? Or is it diluted or given in such a small dose so it is no longer toxic?

Hi Diane, After suffering through with my own dog (she had horrible red scaly spots where she'd lose her hair) and also trying everything that the vets suggested (antibiotics, medicated baths etc), I hope that this holistic product could work for your son's dog. This is the first product I have ever recommended to anyone so I am hoping that you and your son give this a try. I used this with the recommended Betagen spray which is for bacterial infections. I'm hoping that if you do try this, that your son's boxer finds it helpful to him too.

cat allergies

I have a 4 yr old cat that a year in November he developed severe allergies. Most likely to food but I have 5, yes 5 cats so hypoallergenic food on a small budget is a tough thing. The steroid shots work great but they are harmful. I need help, there has got to be an alternative and can someone tell me if this may work for my little guy?

I am reasking my question in hopes for an answer.

Can this extract be put into capsules to make it easier to administer? AND, if so, does it need to be diluted first? I really would like someone to answer this for me. thank you.

the staff answer about diluting it to go in the capsule bogus. if it's in the capsule the dog won't taste it. but the capsule might "melt" if not done fast enough. that salad dressing sounds good and fast too

Yes! Just get a human grade formula. You can take it in a tincture or capsules. It's great for pain & inflammation. Yucca act just like Prednisone (steroids), but, without all the negative side effects. So you get all the benefits without the harm.

My 14 year old dog is on Hills KD canned food for kidney support. Does the YUCCA have anything in it that would jeopardize kidney functions?

No, it actually helps to cleanse the kidney & liver. It would be a great support for your dog. I use it for my dogs arthritis as it's great for pain & inflammation. Yucca acts the same way as Prednisone (steroids) -- but, without all the negative side effects! Love it!

Joint damage, tear in knee

Will this med. work even if my rott of 9 yrs. old has a torn knee on 1 leg? He is on tremadol which I see can be taken with this med. But he is sluggish these days, due to the torn knee. Has anyone experienced this problem and does it work for this problem? Thanks

Yes! My lab, 9 yrs old tore his ACL on his back right knee, had surgery to repair. He's also on Tramadol (2 tabs, 3 times a day) I started him on the yucca after he injured it & continued after surgery & currently. Made a huge difference. Follow directions for 1 drop for each 10 lbs. twice a day - but you can double it to get him started & when there are flares, bad weather, etc. My vet also suggested a product called Missing Link (hip & joint formula) - it works wonders too. It has Yucca & many other ingredients, & not only helps for pain & inflammation, but has done wonders for his coat, skin & has reduced shedding to almost none! I'm thrilled. I think both products work well together. Give them about a month consistently & you'll be amazed. Best of luck!

Diluted AND mixed with food

Do you dilute and mix with peanut butter/yogurt/or food? Or is it dilute OR mix with peanut butter/yogurt/or food? I added 4 drops in with the wet portion of my dog's dinner. I doubled the yucca for immediate results like the bottle suggested because my dog's arthritis is so painful. But I didn't dilute before putting on her food. The instructions seem a bit confusing to me but it's probably just me

Does each drop of the Yucca extract need to be diluted by 1 Tablespoon of liquid or food? My dogs are 65 lbs

I am confused. Reading below from 1800Petmeds Staff answer, it says specifically: "Please note, this product contains steroidal sapponens and should not be given to pets who are also taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (Rimadyl, Deramaxx, Previcox etc)". On the page for this product, it specifically states: "Benefits: Yucca Intensive is a safe, all natural supplement that can be given with many other medications. These include arthritis pain medications (Rimadyl, Deramaxx, Metacam, Tramadol etc.) and joint supplements." These are complete OPPOSITE statements and now I am very worried to try this on my dog who IS taking Rimadyl for arthritis. Can someone please look into this? Is it safe to give this product to dogs on these medications, as it states on the product page or is it NOT safe, as stated by the 1800Petmeds Staff answer?

Suggestion on high doseage amounts

I have a golden retriever that is 14yrs old with severe hip problems. Seen this product (Yucca drops) on the website and was just wondering about the drops. She weighs about 115lbs- that would be at least 11 drops. I noticed all the food additives are for one drop- what suggestion does anyone have for 11 drops? And if added to food is the drops still diluted? Trying to decide to purchase this product or not- she's in severe pain at times and the vet says meds on now is all he can do for her. Been looking at a wheelchair also.
