Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good stuff! This is the second season that I have been using revolution on my 2 cats. They are house cats that spend a few hours outside when the weather is nice. We have a few partially wooded acres that they explore, and they like to hunt (and eat) the little critters they find. So glad I can count on revolution to keep my babies free of worms, ticks and fleas. Also, I absolutely love 1800petmeds. Great customer service!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Revolution For My Little Dog I love that this topical application, includes heartworm protection, along with fleas, ticks and other worms. My little dog is almost 15 years old. She just does not like the oral medication. I struggled in the past, trying to give the oral Heartgard and flea meds. No more struggling! I am a Happy camper!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solved our flea problem with an indoor cat! Our Maine Coon, Sergio, is an indoor cat, but loves to sit in the windows. We noticed flea dirt on him and he was scratching. Our vet recommended Revolution 10 months out of the year...we skip Jan/Feb. Problem solved! He hates getting it on his skin because it's cold, but he forgives us! And the savings on 1-800-PetMeds is great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Results All of my cats were exposed to a kitten with mange and ended up scratching. Within 1 day, they were not and I was not worried about the outcome. One of my cats also still had fleas even after using Advantage and the Revolution handled those as well. I'm grateful it worked so well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only Thing I’ve Found That Works! I have 5 pets (2 cats, 3 dogs) and live in the PNW. I think there are a lot of fleas and ticks here because of the forests and rain. My animals all spend a couple hours per day outside. I have been though many infestations and they are not fun! I’ve tried pretty much all the otc stuff- topicals and pills, and most of them reduced the itching, but didn’t stop it completely or get rid of all the fleas. I finally broke down and spent the extra money on this and it works so well!! No more fleas inside ever again! One of the cats had balding on her tail and tape worms. Since starting this (and going through a deworming session) she hasn’t had worms again and the bald spot is growing back! None of the pets mind it except for one of my cats who squints and her eyes water a little after I apply this. She’s better within 10 min though, so I’ve decided to keep using it. It’s also a little annoying that you have to have a prescription because if you aren’t able to bring them to the vet, they will have to go off flea preventative and it would be super easy to get an infestation again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No More Fleas Between Treatments I have 3 cats that used to be treated with Advantage. I'm not sure if they built up a tolerance to it but it was not uncommon to find fleas and flea dirt on them between treatments. Since switching to Revolution about a year ago we've seen zero fleas on all cats, even when I've admittedly forgotten to order refills and stretched the treatment by a week or two (something I try not to do but it happens). Sticking with Revolution for the long haul!

Does this require a prescription

Asked by: Rodea
It does, but NO vet unless very shady or buying it for their own usage will write a script for it.. seeing that ALL vets are pet "pharmacys" also.. if u took your I'll pet to a vet and they said "ok" its sick. But we dont have any medicine here... no one would ever use that vet again. Why would a vet want u to go somewhere else to buy something cheaper , they sell it also and are a business..once again no legit vet is going to give someone a script to buy meds somewhere else. They have their license on the line for someone to get and who knows how distribute or use a "controlled" substance when they could have sold it themselves.. this is all odd

Does Drontal and Revolution act in the same way for killing internal parasites (worms, mites)? Also, my car has been feeling a bit under the weather. Is it still safe to give it to her?

Asked by: Karen
Drontal's active ingredients are praziquantel, pyrantel pamoate, and febantel. Praziquantel works by damaging the parasite's skin internally, so the parasite disintegrates and is removed by the pet's immune system. Pyrantel pamoate is active against hookworms and ascarids and acts as a blocking agent, causing paralysis. This results in the hookworm losing its grip in the intestinal wall and is removed from the pet's system by natural process. Revolution (selamctin) is also an anthelmintic, which means it fights to expel parasitic worms. Parasites ingest the drug when they feed on the animal's blood. Your veterinarian will determine if it is safe to administer to your cat who is ill.

What is Revolution® (Selamectin)?

Revolution® (Selamectin) is a safe and simple monthly topical medication used to protect your dog or cat from heartworms, fleas, and ear mites. Revolution® (Selamectin) is also used on dogs for the treatment or prevention of fleas, the American Dog Tick, ear mites, and canine sarcoptic mange. When used on cats it is also used to treat or prevent fleas, ear mites, hookworms, and roundworms. Revolution® (Selamectin) requires a prescription from your veterinarian. (3 Pack = 3 doses which lasts 3 months.)

For:

Dogs (6 weeks of age or older and no weight requirement), Cats (8 weeks of age or older and no weight requirement)

Benefits:

  • Protects your pet from heartworms and fleas
  • Fights both internal and surface parasitic infections
  • Treats Sarcoptic mange in dogs
  • Treats and controls ear mites
  • Controls American Dog Tick infestation
  • Treats and controls roundworms and hookworms in cats
  • Only administered once a month
  • Safe and easy to use

How does Revolution® (Selamectin) work?

Revolution® (Selamectin) works by penetrating the skin and entering your pet's bloodstream. Concentrations of selamectin, the active ingredient, in the tissue and bloodstream prevent heartworm disease. Selamectin also redistributes into the skin from the bloodstream and kills adult fleas, American dog ticks, and ear mites, and prevents flea eggs from hatching. It is also an anthelmintic, which means it fights to expel parasitic worms. Parasites ingest the drug when they feed on the animal's blood. Revolution® (Selamectin) is safe for pregnant and lactating pets.

Cautions:

Side effects are uncommon, with less than 1% of dogs showing signs of digestive upsets. It is not advisable to use Revolution® (Selamectin) in pets that are ill or underweight. Collies and herding dog breeds may have a reaction to the ingredient selamectin if given over the recommended dosage amount. If your dog is a collie or other herding dog breed and your veterinarian has prescribed Revolution® (Selamectin), we urge you to monitor your pet for 8 hours and call your vet if your dog displays any signs of weakness, staggering, dilated pupils, trembling, drooling, or pressing his or her head against a wall.

Brand Name:

Revolution® (Selamectin) (Zoetis)

Generic Name:

Selamectin (see-la-mek-tin)

What is the most important information I should know about Revolution® (Selamectin)?

Revolution® (Selamectin) is a prescription medication applied topically once a month. Do not use Revolution® (Selamectin) on puppies under 6 weeks of age or kittens under 8 weeks of age. According to the product literature, Revolution® (Selamectin) is safe for use on pregnant or lactating dogs and cats.

What should I discuss with my veterinarian before applying Revolution® (Selamectin) on my pet?

Tell your veterinarian if your pet has ever had an allergic reaction to the medication.

How should Revolution® (Selamectin) medication be used?

Apply Revolution® (Selamectin) exactly as directed by your veterinarian. If you do not understand the directions ask your pharmacist or veterinarian to explain them to you. Revolution® (Selamectin) is available as unit of use applicator tubes containing the specific amount of medication based on the weight of your pet. Revolution® (Selamectin) is available as a 15mg/0.25ml puppy/kitten dose for puppies older than 6 weeks and kittens older than 8 weeks weighing up to 5 lbs. Revolution® (Selamectin) is also available for cats 5.1-15 lbs (45mg/0.75ml), 15.1-22 lbs (60mg/1ml), and for dogs 5.1-10 lbs (30mg/0.25ml), dogs 10.1-20 lbs (60mg/0.5ml), 20.1-40 lbs (120mg/1 ml), 40-1-85 lbs (240mg/2 ml) and 85.1-130 lbs (360mg/3ml). For dogs over 130 lbs use the appropriate combination of tubes. The entire contents of the tube should be used. Do not split the contents as the accuracy of the dose and effectiveness of the medication cannot be assured. Bathing or shampooing your pet 2 or more hours after treatment will not reduce the effectiveness of Revolution® (Selamectin). Keep this medication away from children and pets.

What happens if I miss applying a dose of Revolution® (Selamectin)?

Give the missed dose as soon as you remember. Do not give a double dose of the medication.

What happens if I overdose my pet on Revolution® (Selamectin)?

Seek emergency veterinary medical treatment. Symptoms of overdose, while rare, may include salivation and lack of coordination, as well as symptoms listed below as side effects.

What should I avoid while using Revolution® (Selamectin) on my pet?

Because humans can contract hookworms from animals, it is important to maintain good personal hygiene. It is also important to eliminate fleas on your pet and in the household and to not feed your pet rodents or uncooked meat or fish. To prevent reinfection, daily cleanup of stools is recommended. Do not use on sick, weak, or underweight animals. Do not apply to wet hair. Dogs should be tested for heartworms prior to using Revolution® (Selamectin). In humans, Revolution® (Selamectin) may be irritating to skin and eyes. Wash hands thoroughly after applying Revolution® (Selamectin) to your pet.

What are the possible side effects of Revolution® (Selamectin)?

Side effects of Revolution® (Selamectin) that may occur include temporary hair loss at the site of application, loss of appetite, drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, drowsiness, rapid breathing, increased heart rate, and muscle tremors.

What other drugs will affect Revolution® (Selamectin)?

Do not apply Revolution® (Selamectin) to your pet if already giving an alternate heartworm medication. When switching from another heartworm medication, begin Revolution® (Selamectin) when the next dose of the heartworm medication is due.

  • Revolution® (Selamectin) is a prescription medication.
