Questions

Are Previcox & Galliprant comprable?

Asked by: Luanne
Both Previcox and Galliprant are non steroidal anti-inflammatory medications; however, they work differently. Previcox contains firicoxib which is a Cox-2 non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication used in dogs for the relief of pain and inflammation due to osteoarthritis. It works by inhibiting the COX-2 (cyclooxygenase-2) enzyme which generates chemicals that are responsible for pain, inflammation and even fever in the body. Galliprant (grapiprant tablets) is a first-in-class non-COX-inhibiting prostaglandin receptor antagonist. It specifically blocks the EP4 receptor, the primary mediator of canine osteoarthritis pain and inflammation. Galliprant (grapiprant tablets) does not inhibit the production of many housekeeping prostanoids that maintain homeostatic functions.

Is this product safe for a dog with kidney disease?

Asked by: Sandra Dee
Hello Sandra Dee, Galliprant is a new medication which targets pain and helps dogs with Osteoarthritis (OA) remain comfortable and active. It specifically blocks the primary mediator of canine OA pain and inflammation while reducing the impact on gastrointestinal, kidney, and liver homeostasis. This means that it is safer to use than other OA medication, however its best to check with your veterinarian if this is the appropriate product for your pup, since its use will greatly depend on the advancement of the kidney disease and the health status of your pet. Hope this helps!
