What is Cosequin for Dogs?

Cosequin for Dogs is a nutritional supplement that helps dogs maintain healthy joints. It has been rated the number one veterinarian-recommended joint health supplement brand. Cosequin's active ingredients include glucosamine and chondroitin, and it can have a positive impact on joint health, while avoiding the side effects that can sometimes accompany prescription drugs. It is available in regular strength capsules and double strength capsules and chewable tablets.

For:

Dogs

Benefits:

  • Supports & maintains joint and connective tissue health
  • Helps support cartilage matrix production & protects existing cartilage from breakdown
  • The double strength formula contains 500 mg of glucosamine and 400 mg of chondroitin
  • Comes highly recommended by veterinarians
  • No reported side effects

How does Cosequin work?

Cosequin for Dogs contains glucosamine, which is a natural compound that is found in healthy cartilage in both humans and pets. It helps hydrate healthy joints by increasing the production of molecules that bind and hold water in the cartilage. Healthy cartilage provides cushioning which helps protect a pet's joints while exercising. Many believe that it provides clinical benefit in the synovial fluid by strengthening cartilage and aiding glycosaminoglycan synthesis. Further research on the effectiveness of glucosamine is still needed, but many of our customers find it to be very beneficial to their pets. The glucosamine is used in conjunction with sodium chondroitin sulfate, an important structural component of cartilage that provides much of its resistance to compression.

Cautions:

Side effects are rare, but may include diarrhea.

Cosequin is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 76.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am giving it to three GSDs. The Web site mentions Fancee, but my German Shepherds are the ones getting the meds. GSDs often have hip problems. My old dog was getting pretty bad last year, but I have seen great improvement in her mobility with the use of Cosequin DS so I have started giving it also to the two younger ones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My cat loves these and vet says it's okay My cat is 19 and getting a little stiff. My vet sold me a bottle of this and my cat chews up a 1/2 tab daily. Seems to help but not sure. Cost twice as much at vet as does here.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A new lease of life Our 12 year old dog Lily had surgery for her acl. After a long and careful recovery she then started to limp again on the same leg. The vet said it was her meniscus and she would need surgery to repair it - we didn't want her or us to go through all this again.I did some legwork and decided to try her on COSEQUIN. Well she is like a puppy again and no sign of the limp. The leg is clearly weaker than the other but stronger than it was. I highly recommend this product.

I started my 7 year old dog on this 3 weeks ago. She was limping after being still for awhile. Now she gets up no problem. On the downside since starting it you can tell she doesn't feel good. Could this be a side effect?

Asked by: Teresa5
Side effects are rare but may include diarrhea. Please consult with your veterinarian to rule out that issue.
