Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't work. I have a small dog with separation anxiety and I've had him on these for about two weeks now with absolutely no results. I give them to him about an hour before I leave work and my roommates have said he immediately starts barking when I leave and continues to do so pretty much the entire day. This is extremely frustrating and I honestly don't know what else to try other than prescription medications. In short, these have absolutely no effect on my 5-10 lb. dog.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't help my dog I have a cock-a-poo male dog that has bad separation anxiety and I thought I would try this. I gave him one and then two, but it didn't seem to affect him, at all. I tried it several times, but no help. He is still anxious, especially when we leave to go to work, in the morning. I'm hoping I can find a better product. It might work for someone else's pet, but it didn't for mine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THANK YOU!! I have a German Shorthair that is afraid of anything and everything and storms are a heartbreaker for Misty. The Composure bites are WONDERFUL!!! #1 Misty LOVES them! Normally when we would give her something she would know it was some type of meds and would spit it out, but not these! #2 They work pretty fast...within 20-30 minutes. I bought 2 bags so I have plenty on hand. #3 She slept right through the HUGE thunderstorm we just had two days ago. Normally, she is freaking out trying to bust out of her kennel or the house. She used to get so scared she didn't know up from down, poor girl. #4 THESE ARE THE BEST!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didnt work at all. I thought I would try this on my rescue feral cat we have had for 10 years. She has always been afraid of people in general. Will only come within arms distance for a scratch and then will retreat to a safe place. This medication did nothing for her. Tried one, and then two. She did like them as treats but that is all. Wish I could find something to relieve her fearfulness so we can show her how much she is loved.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't work at all I really had high hopes for this product. My yellow lab gets extremely excited when riding in a vehicle. I tripled the dose, as it advised to do in extreme situations and it did not even make a dent in my dogs anxiety. It did absolutely nothing. Very disappointed that for us it was just a waste of money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Appears to help calm. My cat is a little high strung, nervous around loud noises, and agitated in the evening (alzheimers? HA) This chew seems to mellow him out. He is a picky eater, but eats his 1 chew willingly, in the evening.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from monsoon storms Our Vet recommended these Composure Chews for our 11 year old Lhasa Apso, he is very afraid of the monsoon thunderstorms we get every summer here in Phoenix. We watch the news so we can give him two before the noise of the thunder and rain starts, it does help him a lot, we even give one to our 6 month old puppy, he is not afraid of the storm but it helps settle him down at the end of the day. I am so glad our Vet recommended these.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from My dog says NO to these. Sorry I had to give this a bad review even tho it might be a great product. My Lhasa will not touch them. I've tried giving them to her straight from the bag, crushing them, and hiding them in other foods she likes all to no avail. She either won't touch it, or finds it and spits it out. I have one open bag and accidentally ordered a second one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unable to get cat to eat product I was very disappointed in the product. My cat is a rescue and very anxious, except with me. I thought maybe this product would calm her down. The product was great price and I read the reviews. It started when I opened the package. What an odor? I figured ok, just opened package. I held out a chew to my cat. She took one sniff and took off running. I tried to crumble it into her food. She was able to pick all her food out and left the chew pieces. I could still smell the product in the entire room. Will be returning product. Hopeful I can find another product that will help...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I used these for my Shih-Tzu on for a long car trip because she gets very nervous and shakes and pants in the car. They worked wonderfully! There were short times during the trip that she panted, but for the vast majority, she was totally calm! And she wasn't loopy/lethargic, which was great. So glad to have found something that works! It was awful to watch her shake and pant so much in the car!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Had no affect I have a really hyperactive cat and figured I would come here to find a solution to her wild behavior. I gave Paddy a single dose the day I received these and noticed no change. The next day I decided to try again but doubling the dose per the packages instructions and once again I did not notice any change. A little disappointed with the product and will just have to continue to work on her behavior.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Opposite effect I'm planning a long car trip & bought this to help keep my cat Carmen calm. I gave her a treat to see how she would react before the trip. She became more hyper than usual. Weird. Waited a few days, then gave her 2 treats to see if it would be any different. Nope, she was even more wound up. Will be trying to return this as soon as possible and hopefully will find something more calming.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a difference this makes! I have a highly anxious 20 pound puggle who is anxious at night. Prior to the Composure we had been pulling our hair out and even considered medicating her. We took her to a trainer who told us about this product... we tried it and OMG it worked! We give it as daily support and it is so much better than medicating her... no zonked out spaced out pet. Love it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hard to chew. Perhaps I received an old batch, but the chews were very hard. I could not bend them with my fingers or smash them. The cats loved the taste and their odor certainly attracted positive attention, but only our male cat (with his monstrous teeth) was able to eat them with any ease. The cat with the anxiety disorder would chew on them, get frustrated, and leave them behind. We're planning to cut them into even smaller pieces for her. Because of their texture, we haven't been able to tell how effective they are at calming cats.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Success! My dog loves these treats and I definitely see a calmer side to her when she eats them. You do need to give prior to a storm or fireworks but usually I know in advance. They are pricey to give every day unless the anxiety occurs every day. To add to the calmness, I put them with other treats in a dispensing toy prior to the storms and the combination of the treats and the added focus and exercise makes her quite calm. She will still hide behind the couch but she is no longer shaking the couch with her panting and whimpering. She has a thundershirt that helps too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! Wow is all I have to say about these chews! We have a stray who is terrified of thunderstorms (we found her while it was raining in the middle of the street), all of my dogs are scared of fireworks, the 2 male dogs hate each other and want to fight constantly. I have found these chews to be a Godsend. On the 4th of July, they were calm and napped. The stray is the worst because she wants to be carried and at 50lbs, I can't carry her so I purchased the Calming Collar, gave her 2 chews, and she went to sleep. I have plenty left since I only use them for emergencies. I don't want my dogs zonked out all the time but I highly recommend these chews before investing in the Thundershirt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works for our border collie Our border collie is a nut case. She is extremely afraid of storms. this produt really really helps clam her down. She also hates the car rides. being trapped in a car, goes nuts and bark this horrible wine louder than a police siren. Our house is much happier now with this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Seems to work quite well We have a 60+ lb. Border Collie male that can't handle loud/strange noise (thunder, gun shots from nearby range, fireworks). He cowers in any "hidey-hole" he can find and just shivers and salivates. I have been giving him up to 4 chews if we know in advance of a storm. I'm probably going to change that to 2 per day routinely since we've had incidences of unannounced spectacular fireworks. Once he cowers there is no chance to get him to settle down or feed him any chews. These may seem to be on the expensive side but they have been worth it. He still goes to his hidey-hole but is much calmer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from seems to be working Our male neutered Siamese was still showing aggressive mating behaviors to our spayed female Siamese. He is almost twice her size and it was to the point we were considering putting him down. As an almost-last resort, our vet suggested this product. We are not entirely sure this has been the solution to the problem, but since we started, Joe has stopped biting on the neck and mounting poor little Java.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This has helped my cat so much These chews seem to be a life saver (literally) for my cat. He has cystitis from anxiety and his small urethra would get plugged up with mucus resulting in having to have a catheter put in on a few occasions. He was put on amitriptyline but it changed his personality so much. All he did was sleep and he wouldn't play anymore. He just wasn't the same loving, sweet, fun cat anymore and he seemed miserable. Now we use the comfort zone diffuser, these chews and cosequin and gradually took him completely off the amitriptyline. He's back to his old self and is still able to urinate without any problems so far (he's been off the amitriptyline completely for almost a month now). This is definitely worth trying if your cat has cystitis and you are looking for a homeopathic way to deal with it. I give him one chew twice a day and he loves the flavor. He gets one cosequin tablet sprinkled on his food twice a day also. He weighs about 11 pounds. I hope this can help other cat owners who have cystitis. It's worth a try anyway.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "New" Dog! My 13 year old shi tzu has been fearful most of her life. Loud noises, other dogs, strange people provoked an immediate cowering stance. Wish I had found this a long time ago. She is a "new" dog and sometimes exercises her new found self confidence on my 6 month old pit puppy! Fearful to fearsome!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mostly works great I have seven cats. The boys have all been fixed, but getting the two girls fixed costs more money than we have laying around right now. One month, right before they decided to go into heat together, I had purchased a pouch of these bite-sized chews on a whim. I gave Gizmo and Akira a couple before bedding them down for the night and lo and behold!! It was a relatively peaceful night. Not nearly so much yowling as during the day. So, I tried it during the day. Not as much luck, but at least the girls were less stressed about it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Composure Effectiveness My dog is a 13 year old Labrador female (spayed). She used to urinate on my chair and rip up my carpets when I went out for any period of time. Since using this product she has completely stopped doing anything wrong. I am a true believer. This product really works and I highly recommend it for your dog.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Composure Chews I bought this product for my dog who is a 10lb mixed maltese shih tsu rescue. She had been having a great deal of anxiety every time I would turn the oven on in the kitchen. She would get so upset she would try to scratch her way out of the house and shake and run under the bed. I had tried the DAP, thunderjacket and none of it worked. My vet recommended this product finally and after a few days I noticed a huge differerence in her. After about a week she would actually walk into the kitchen while the oven was on. This product is great and has no side effects and can be used daily. Definitely worth trying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great for us! We recently brought a 3 yr old terrier/Shih Tzu mix into our home from a local shelter. He had been abused, and had issues with growling, snapping, and nipping at women's feet and shoes. Most of the time he was a great companion with us, and he loves our female Papillion. After 4 weeks of specific training for his behaviors, with little results, I talked to my vet again and she suggested trying this product. We saw great results after just two days. He started out getting 2 a day 12 hrs apart, and is now down to one a day in the early afternoon (most of the unwanted behavior happened in the evening hrs.) He is not drugged, appears happier, and is responding and learning much better as we continue training. He has severe rain/thunderstorm anxiety also, and these help him get through them easily. So glad to have found this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great for our bulldog We have an 11 year old English Bulldog. Every year he has become more fearful of storms and now every time it starts to rain he trembles and pants like he's going to pass out. We tried these chews and they worked GREAT. Didn't even have to double the dose. They don't knock him out (which I wouldn't have minded), but the trembling and panting were completely gone. We are used to being kept up all hours by his loud panting and now we can actually sleep through the storms. WONDERFUL!!!

Can we give these to our lab/Pit Bull mix every day indefinitely?

Asked by: Linda
Thank you for your question. You can give your pet 1 chew a day for ongoing support, or you can keep them on hand and give one only as needed during stressful times. If your pet's condition worsens or does not improve, stop administration of Composure Bite-Sized Chews and consult your veterinarian. Be sure to see how to use instructions based on your pets weight.

For long term use, best time to give?

My dog is a rescue, mix of chihuahua & terrier. At home she is a wonderful companion, calm & happy. Unless the doorbell rings, or someone gets too close to our lanai. But on walks all the terrier comes out & she becomes very hyper; barks at loud machinery, will attack any dog which she doesn't like (almost all in our community), that is if I didn't have a leash on her. Anyway, my vet recommended Composure, on a daily basis. When is the best time of day to give this? Morning, or is evening ok?

You can give it in the morning or evening, it should not make a difference. If you have more problems during the day with the pet interacting with other pets adn people, then try giving it in the morning.

Thank you for your question. This product helps calm down dogs that weigh over 26lbs. If your puppy is under 26lbs, you may want to look into NaturVet Quiet Calming Aids, product number 10427.

My 11 yr old female cat has recently begun defecating outside of the litterbox (mostly on or near my husband's things). Will this product help?

My cat is a 10-11 yr old spayed female. She has always been afraid of strangers, but recently (last 1-2 months) appears extremely fearful of almost everything - loud noises, etc. She has also started defecating outside of the litterbox within the last one to two months.

This product is good to help calm a cat down from hyperactivity. We do suggest you speak with your vet in regards to this issue you are having as they may be able to prescribe a proper medication to help with this.

What is Composure Bite-Sized Chews?

When you can't get your pet to sit through yoga classes or meditation sessions, Composure Bite-Sized Chews can help. Composure Bite-Sized Chews are veterinarian-approved and used to help calm pets that are prone to anxiety, nervousness, hyperactivity or those that tend to act out when in a stressful environment. Your pets will love the chicken liver flavor, and even those with sensitive teeth should be able to handle the soft, fish-shaped chews (for cats) or bone-shaped chews (for dogs). You can give your pet 1 chew a day for ongoing support, or you can keep them on hand and give one only as needed during stressful times. Think of Composure Bite-Sized Chews as a triple cocktail of stress management and relaxation.

For:

Cats and Dogs

Benefits:

  • Helps alleviate anxiety, hyperactivity, and stress-related behavior problems without affecting your pet's personality or activity level (in other words, your cat or dog won't be "zoned out")
  • Contains 3 active ingredients that work together to help calm and relax your pet and reduce the effects of stress, including L-Theanine, which is also found in green tea
  • Helps the body produce Dopamine, which can elevate your pet's mood naturally
  • During times of stress, it is safe to double or triple the dose as needed
  • The chews come in a convenient resealable pouch for easy storage
  • Available for cats and dogs of all weights

How it Works:

The combination of the three active ingredients in Composure Bite-Sized Chews work together to help alleviate stress-related behavior problems. C3™ (Colostrum Calming Complex) is created from colostrum proteins, which have been found to support cognitive functioning and stress reduction. Colostrum Calming Complex in the chews works in tandem with L-Theanine to promote relaxation and cognition in cats and dogs. And thiamine is added to the formula to help manage stress and reduce irritability. They are recommended for cats and dogs that may have separation anxiety, that run for cover every time you have company, or become moody after being introduced to a new family member and dogs that urinate in the house or cats that urinate outside of the litter box when you go on vacation, or leave you special "gifts" if you interrupt his or her routine. It also can also work for cats and dogs that become anxious or agitated when they go on car rides.

Cautions:

The chews are so tasty, your pet might mistake them for treats and try to eat the whole bag. To avoid accidental overdose, keep the chews out of reach of your pet. In case of overdose, contact your veterinarian immediately. Some cats may experience an adverse reactions to the chews, such as increased hyperactivity. If this should happen, you should discontinue use. If your pet's condition or behavior worsens or does not improve after giving Composure Bite-Sized Chews, discontinue use and consult with your veterinarian. Safe use in pregnant cats or dogs intended for breeding has not been proven. If your pet's condition worsens or does not improve, stop administration of Composure Bite-Sized Chews and consult your veterinarian. Keep out of reach of children.
