What is Capstar Flea Treatment Tablets?

Capstar Flea Treatment Tablets are used to kill fleas on dogs and cats, which begins working within 30 minutes. Capstar will kill more than 90% of adult fleas within 4 hours on dogs and 6 hours on cats, and pets may temporarily scratch as a result of the fleas dying.

For:

Cats (4 weeks of age and older and 2 pounds of body weight or greater) Dogs (4 weeks of age and older and 2 pounds of body weight or greater)

Benefits:
  • Starts killing fleas within 30 minutes
  • Unflavored tablet

How it Works:

The active ingredient in Capstar is nitenpyram, an insecticide. This oral treatment kills adult fleas quickly. Nitenpyram interferes with nerve transmission in fleas, with no adverse effect on your pet.

Cautions:

Pets may scratch as a result of the fleas dying, but it is a temporary condition and not a reaction to the medication itself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Safe and effective I was apprehensive at first, but I have to say it worked out great for our dog. The only side effect was a very happy, comfortable dog.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Relief My 3 cats came down with fleas. We believe it was our adopted outdoor cat. Anyway, our other adopted cat has flea dermatitis and was breaking out in horrific sores as well as losing fur and being miserable. Our 3rd cat we are fostering for a friend and ended up losing fur too. We tried Diatomaceous Earth which controlled it, but no elimination. We finally ordered Capstar as a last ditch resort. So glad we did. Within 30min all 3 cats had immediate relief. We even picked up a few fleas who had fallen over dead. No adverse reactions in any of the cats to the medication. 4 days later...The dermatitis has cleared up in both cats. The outdoor cat had tapeworm I guess too, because those came running out his back end. Doing a second dose in a few days time. I have nothing but good things to say about this medication as my cats are all back to their normal selves personality wise. It has killed the existing flea population and we are ready and armed with Capstar for round 2!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from VERY BAD THIS STUFF DID'NT WORK FOR MY 3 DOGS AT ALL AND I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best product for relief from fleas! I've been using Capstar for my cats on and off for several years. I have indoor cats, but once in a while they manage to slip outside and sometimes bring fleas back inside with them and we all know how fast fleas multiply! Capstar is a wonderful product; the fleas fall right off my cats shortly after they ingest the tablet and my cats have never experienced any side effects from the medication. I would highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is sooooooo good! When I first discovered Capstar, I think it was 9 years ago when I had 4 dogs and 2 cats. I wasn't sure what to expect, and had to purchase enough to cover all the animals. Well, needless to say, on the very first treatment, we had fleas jumping off all the animals! They were landing on my carpet, dead! I only gave the animals 2 doses because there was no sign of fleas after the second dose. I only have one dog left. :( This is the first year in the past 5 years that I have given him Capstar because of his scratching made me believe he has fleas again. Since I have only given him one dose, he hasn't scratched since. Yes, you are reading this correctly! We have not had a flea issue in all these years and I thank Capstar for that. Yes, I have recommended Capstar to several friends and they have had the same result.

We were given Capstar by a vet for our two kittens that have fleas. It worked on the first day it was given however the vet told us onlybuse it once a week. We now are seeing baby flees on the blanket the sleep on. Is it safe to give another dose to them?

Asked by: Josh1289
According to the manufacturer you can redose pet as often as once a day if needed. If your vet advise you otherwise there may be a reason for that since they have seen the kittens. We will advise you to contact them directly to get an answer.
