Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stopped the infestation. We brought in a sweet stray who was covered in fleas. After two baths we were still seeing flea activity and tried Advantage II which seemed effective pretty quickly. With the addition of a flea spray for our rugs and furniture we completely stopped the infestation. He's a happy boy now! I've seen this to be effective, so I would recommend it to any cat owner worried about fleas.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flea Free!!! I have a 9 year old Tabby cat named Pete and he's been on Advantage 2 for the last 7 years. He is strictly an indoor cat and if you think (like I USED to!) that they can't get fleas well think again!! Pete had them and what a mess it was to get rid of them but since I started Pete on Advantage 2 we haven't had any more issues. 1800PetMeds is the fastest and easiest way to get your products without ever having to leave the comforts of your home!! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Advantage 2 for cats My furbaby is partly maine coon so it's very tricky to deal with if she gets fleas and she is O.C.D about grooming herself. Well she got fleas this summer and i noticed that the flea stuff i was using wasn't working at all so i got her the advantage 2 and with in hrs I was in disbelief when I was combing her all these stunned fleas were just totally stunned and were so easy to kill and the fact it kills on contact so the fleas don't have to bite them they die no matter what. By the next day i brushed her for a good 45minutes and didn't find 1 flea. Im very impressed with how fast it worked . My Boo kitty is much more happy now Thanks 1800petmeds

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works but notwith drops alone... I received this 8-30-2019. Today is 9-11-2019. Almost immediately my lethargic ginger short hair stopped aggressively eating himself and came down from his perch. I used vacuuming, Raid fleas spot (cover your month and make sure cats are elsewhere), and laundering what could be washed. I'm not going to kid you; last night we found fleas on us humans as if you know eggs from the carpet hatched or something--go figure. Read up on a flea life cycle. It takes more than a single month of drops to eradicate fleas when you have a deep infestation. One live flea drops hundreds of eggs into the environment and those need diligent murder methods. Drops help the cat not the environment. Do not wash your cat or the stuff that works get washed away to! All 5 of my cats are doing fine. They're not perfect but it's going to take time!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love Advantage!!! I had 1 tube left of Advantage flea meds for my cats. One of my cats, Boo Boo was not well and I knew it was the fleas that was making him sick, not eating, very lethargic, didn't want to play peek a boo and not wanting treats. Beau, one of my other cats was scratching terribly and going nuts due to the fleas as well. I split the tube of Advantage between them until my order came. Right away even with half a tube on Boo Boo he was starting to get better and Beau wasn't scratching as much as well. After my order arrived about a week later I opened a package right away for each of them and administered it to them. They are so much better. Boo Boo's fur is now growing back back on his back near his tail and is nice and soft again, he plays peek a boo with me again and wants his cuddles. Beau is now calm and back to his silly self again. The fleas don't seem to have affected my other 2 cats which was odd but I always give them all flea meds. Thank you Advantage and thank you 1 800 for getting my order to me much quicker than expected!!!! My babies are happy again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No good for multiple cats This stuff is garbage if you have multiple cats. You have to put this on them before it’s even been 30 days and still have to deal with fleas. I thought Maybe I just Needed to consistently use the product but no that’s not the case. I work with cat rescues and many other have said the same with or without multiples. I tried To save a little money by not buying the advantage multi because it’s so expensive. I’m disappointed.

But I always go back to advantage because it works it’s more expensive than some but it’s worth it I have a dog and 15 cats I don’t get fleas often but when I do I’ll only use advantage

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did not make a difference! I am really disappointed with this product! They either changed the formula or I got a bad batch! I bought 4 different formulas, large dog, medium and small dogs, and cat and all of the pets still have tons of fleas after 3 months of monthly applications. This has never happened before so I know something is different with this medication.

Questions

I have a large cat weighing 22 pounds. One tube has not proven effective for controlling fleas.  At that weight, should we use more than one tube?

Asked by: J3ma
The Advantage II for large cats covers cats up to 18 lbs. Since your furry baby is 22 lbs. You can purchase the package for 2-5 lbs and give both tubes to your furry baby.

Hello, Advantage II Dose this item have an expiration date? How long is it good for. What would cause the tube to split open at the bottom. it was seal in foil when I removed the foil the tube had no solution in it the bottom was split open.

Asked by: Lynne
Advantage II does not have an expiration date. Most likely, there was a defect during manufacturing as I have seen this happen a few times a year in the past. Hopefully someone from PetMeds will also reply to see if they will replace the defective tube. If not, please contact them.

Is adv 2 kitten and adv 2 small cat the same thing?

Asked by: Heather
Thank you for your question. The appropriate dose of medication is determined by your pets weight. Advantage II for cats is available as follows for cats 2-5lbs , 5-9lbs and 9lbs & up. The smallest dose which is 2-5lbs would be considered for kittens or smaller cats. The product should be used for cats/kittens over 2 lbs and over 8 weeks of age or older.

This says it kills by contact. Does that mean the fleas won’t die unless they make contact with the application site?

Asked by: David D
Thank you for your question. Advantage II kills fleas through contact, so fleas do not have to bite your pet to die. If the flea do not make contact they would not die. If you need a product to treat your environment and not just your pet we do offer products such as Advantage Household Spot & Crevice Spray, Advantage Yard & Premise Spray, etc.

My cat is a long-haired Maine Coon. The last few times I have used Advantage II on him, he still has fleas. He is 18 years old. What do you recommend for him. He has lost a lot of weight. He only weights a little over 9 lbs.

Asked by: Pammie Jo
Thank you for your question. As you mentioned you have a long haired Maine Coon be sure the Advantage II is being applied to the skin and not getting mostly in the hair. Place the applicator tip through the cat's hair to the skin on the neck at the base of the skull and release all of the tube's contents on a single spot directly on the skin. If the medication is being applied as instructed but is simply not effective we would recommend trying our Flea 5x Plus ( generic to Frontline Plus) flea and tick preventative. This preventative can be used on cats/kittens over 1.5 lbs (8 weeks or older).

Why is the dog version of Advantage 2 not okay for cats? Is it a dosing issue, or are the 90.44% of other ingredients somehow not the same...because the other ingredients are exactly the same on the labels.

Asked by: ToddMc101
Thank you for your question. Both dog and cat versions of Advantage II are chemically identical. The Advantage II boxes marketed for dogs say, "Not for cats". That's because the flea treatment is sold in single-use plastic vials, with the dog vials containing a lot more medication than is safe to apply to a single cat in a single dose.

I suggest that you contact your local "do-it-yourself" pest control for product recommendations. Otherwise, using a good flea control product on every pet as directed will eventually solve your problem. You will need some patience as cocooned flea larva can take up to 2 years to hatch.

What is Advantage II?

Advantage II is a monthly flea preventative for dogs and cats that offers comprehensive flea protection by killing adult fleas, larvae, and eggs. Plus, it kills fleas through contact, which means fleas don't have to bite your pet to die. Advantage II also treats, prevents, and controls lice on dogs. Advantage II does not kill ticks, so we recommend using the Preventic Tick Collar along with Advantage II (dogs only). Advantage II for small cats 5-9 lbs can also be used for ferrets weighing 1 lb or over and 10 weeks of age or older.

For:

Dogs (7+ weeks of age, weighing 3+ lbs), Cats (8+ weeks of age, weighing 2+ lbs), Ferrets (10+ weeks of age, weighing 1+ lbs)

Benefits:

  • Convenient, once-a-month application
  • Kills through contact - fleas don't have to bite to die
  • Kills fleas within 12 hours of application on cats and dogs
  • Kills fleas within 24 hours of application on ferrets
  • Kills all flea life stages including flea eggs and larvae to prevent infestation
  • Treats, prevents, and controls lice infestations (dogs only)
  • Safe and easy to apply
  • Waterproof - remains effective even if pet gets wet (use of a soap-free shampoo is recommended)

How does Advantage II work?

The first active ingredient is imidacloprid, which acts on the nervous system of the flea to cause paralysis and subsequent death. Within 12 hours of application on cats and dogs, 98-100 percent of fleas are dead. Advantage II Small Cat kills the existing fleas on ferrets within 24 hours. The second active ingredient, pyriproxyfen, is an insect growth regulator. Once a female flea lays her eggs, pyriproxyfen works to prevent the eggs from hatching, ending the flea life cycle. Also, the active ingredient in Advantage II kills through contact, which means that fleas don't have to bite your pet to die. Reinfesting fleas are killed with protection against further flea infestation lasting for up to 4 weeks. Pre-existing pupae in the environment may continue to emerge for 6 weeks or longer depending upon the climactic conditions.

Cautions:

Individual sensitivities, while rare, may occur after using any pesticide product for pets. If signs persist, or become severe, consult a veterinarian immediately. Do not get this product in your pet's eyes or mouth.

Advantage II Small Cat may also be used for ferrets weighing 1 lb or over and 10 weeks of age or older. Advantage II Directions:

  • Only use Advantage II on dogs/puppies over 3 lbs and over 7 weeks of age, cats/kittens over 2 lbs and over 8 weeks of age, and ferrets 1 lb or over and 10 weeks of age or older.
  • Apply Advantage II once a month every month.
  • For dogs up to 20 lbs, part the pet's hair between the shoulder blades until you can see the skin. Place the tip of the applicator on the skin and release all of the tube's contents on a single spot directly on the skin.
  • For dogs 21 lbs and over, apply entire contents of the tube evenly in 3 or 4 spots on the top of the back from the shoulder to the base of the tail. At each spot, part the hair until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the applicator on the skin and release a portion of the Advantage II solution directly on the skin. Do not apply an excessive amount of solution at any one spot that could cause some of the solution to run off the side of the dog.
  • For kittens, cats and ferrets, place the applicator tip through the cat's hair to the skin on the neck at the base of the skull and release all of the tube's contents on a single spot directly on the skin.
  • Use only one applicator per treatment.
Tip:

Under normal conditions Advantage II is effective for a month. However, in case of severe flea infestation, retreatment may be necessary earlier than four weeks. Do not re-treat cats or dogs more often than once every 7 days. For ferrets, do not retreat more often than every 14 days. After flea control is obtained, return to a monthly treatment.
