Rated 2 out of 5 by from More flees than before I'm still not sure if this product works or not but i'm more on the side this product isn't as good as the stars that are given. I love 1-800- pet meds they're fast and they always add a nice treat in the box. I ordered this product Oct 2nd and received it by Friday Oct 4th. I gave my dog a bath that Sunday night Oct 6th. Comes Thursday October 10th my dog had so many flees you would have thought she was a homeless dog. I had to shave her down to her skin and while shaving her picking flees of her and drowning them in a bowl of water. After I shaved her I still had to give her another bath and flees still where coming off her. The next day I had to buy a flee collar and as of now oct 12th I have not seen any new flees. As for this product I will not be buying it again because it seems like the flees are attracted to her even more, so for my dog this product does not work and will not be buying it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great selection! Bought this item here at Petmeds because my veterinarian wasn't selling it to me anymore. They wanted me to give my dog something I refused to give him. So I decided to look elsewhere. So thank you for giving me that choice as to what I think was best for my dog!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It Works! Dog was allergic to Frontline, and the pills the vet had me try didn't do anything. So I took a chance and tried Activyl. Fleas are gone, and dog doesn't get sick, and it costs less than the pills. Win all the way around! Tried it on the 2 cats, and it works for them as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good stuff When we rescued our 2 kittens on Halloween 2018, they weighed about 4 pounds and had a lot of fleas. My husband went to PetSmart to get something for them. At the time they were too small for Revolution and the clerk recommended Activyl for them. By the next morning, there no fleas left on them. When they get about 7 pounds, I will go to using Revolution on them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only medicine that works! I have been buying this medicine for the last year. It's the only one that works for my cats. I live in Florida so the weather is very bipolar. It's the only medicine that kills fleas and keeps them from coming back. The other medicines I've used in the past don't work well with the Florida climate. I'm very happy with this product!!!

I will continue to use this for as long as it works. The fleas this year have been especially nasty. I hope this stuff will continue to work. Can it be divided ?I have. 3 dogs weights are22 lbs, 16lbs and 7.8 lbs.   Is it possible to break a pill in half for my 7.8 pounder ?

Asked by: Diane
Thank you for your question. Activyl is a spot on flea treatment and is not administered orally but topically instead. The medication is to be administered based on your pets weight not split. Your Dogs/Puppies must be at least (8+ weeks of age). For a 7.8lbs dog you would need the 4-14lbs dose and for a 16 & 22lbs dog you would need the 15-22lbs dose.

Hi,  We have a jack russel Chihuahua mix and once we applied the correct dose to him, he won’t stop pacing for hours. He kept walking.  Won’t sit lay down want to cuddle. Should we be concerned?

Asked by: Aiza
Thank you for your question. Individual sensitivities while rare, may occur after using any pesticide product. We recommend monitoring your furry friend over the next 24 hours. If you notice any additional reactions stop using the medication and consult a veterinarian. Possible side effects included temporary itchiness, hair loss, or inflammation at the application site. Drooling, vomiting, salivation, squinting, or shaking may occur if your dog licks the affected area straight after the application of Activyl.

will this kill any fleas already on my kitten?

Asked by: isela
Activyl works to break the flea's lifecycle by killing not only adult fleas, but also flea eggs and larvae, which reduces the chances of your pet becoming reinfested. Activyl is spread through your pet's skin and coat. When a flea lands on your pet, it takes up the active ingredient of Activyl and causes the enzymes in the flea to change. Activyl then reaches its full active form and the flea becomes paralyzed and unable to feed. This process is called bioactivation .

Thank you for your question. While the active ingredients and topical liquid look the same. There may be a difference in the inactive ingredients and for that reason we ask that you follow manufacturers directions. Do not use Activyl for dogs on cats due to inappropriate dosing. What is Activyl?

Activyl is a monthly spot-on flea treatment that works like no other flea product on the market. Activyl works by using a method called bioactivation, a method in which the active ingredient, indoxacarb is fully activated by using the flea's own enzymes. Activyl can be used for both dogs and cats. It kills not only adult fleas but also flea eggs and larvae, thereby breaking the flea lifecycle.

For dogs only, use Activyl Protector Band to protect against fleas and ticks for up to 6 months. For heartworm protection, try Ivermectin Pyrantel - Generic to Heartgard Plus.

For:

Cats/Kittens and Dogs/Puppies (8+ weeks of age)

Benefits:

  • New technology for flea control
  • Kills fleas, flea eggs and larvae
  • Breaks the flea lifecycle
  • Quick-drying and fragrance-free
  • Waterproof even after bathing

How does Activyl work?

Activyl works to break the flea lifecycle by killing not only adult fleas, but also flea eggs and larvae, which reduces the chances of your pet becoming reinfested. Activyl is spread through your pet's skin and coat. When a flea lands on your pet, it takes up the active ingredient of Activyl and causes the enzymes in the flea to change. Activyl then reaches its full active form and the flea becomes paralyzed and unable to feed. This process is called bioactivation - the newest technology in flea control. In addition, Activyl is waterproof, quick-drying, and fragrance free.

Cautions:

Do not use Activyl for dogs on cats, or allow your cat to lick or groom a dog treated with Activyl. Do not use on cats or kittens under 2 lbs, or dogs or puppies under 4 lbs, and no kittens or puppies under 8 weeks of age. Certain medications may interact with pesticides. If signs of sensitivity occur, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Brand Name:

Activyl

Generic Name:

Indoxacarb

What is the most important thing I should know about Activyl?

Activyl is a monthly spot-on flea treatment that works like no other flea product on the market. Activyl works by a method called bioactivation. This method uses the flea's own enzymes to change Activyl into its fully active form. It kills not only adult fleas, but it also kills eggs and larvae too; thereby, breaking the flea's lifecycle. Activyl is a non-prescription (OTC) product.

What should I discuss with my veterinarian before giving Activyl to my pet?

Consult your vet before using on debilitated, aged, or medicated dogs. Certain medications can interact with pesticides. If signs of sensitivity occur, contact your veterinarian immediately.

How should Activyl be applied?

Use Activyl on dogs and puppies 8 weeks of age or older. It is available as 0.51 ml applicators for dogs 4.1-14 lbs, 0.77 ml applicators for dogs 14.1-22 lbs, 1.54 ml applicators for dogs 22.1-44 lbs, 3.08 ml applicators for dogs 44.1-88 lbs and 4.62 ml applicators for dogs 88.1-132 lbs. It is also available for cats 2-9 lbs in 0.51 ml applicators and cats over 9 lbs in 1.03 ml applicators. It lasts for a full 30 days. DO NOT USE ACTIVYL FOR DOGS ON CATS. For cats, use only Activyl specifically formulated for cats and kittens.

Hold the applicator in an upright position away from your face and snap the tip by bending it and folding it back on itself. Part the hair and place the applicator tip against the skin on the base of the skull. Applying Activyl at the base of the skull will help prevent your pet from licking the product. Squeeze the applicator firmly and apply the entire contents directly to the skin. Do not allow Activyl to run off and do not have contact with the treated area until it is completely dry. Reapply Activyl every 30 days.

For Larger Dogs: Start applying the contents between the shoulder blades working your way down to the tail while applying Activyl in 2-3 spots along the way. Make sure you thoroughly part the hair on each spot so the applicator touches the skin and not just the fur.

Activyl for Dogs & Puppies, 8+ weeks of age offers monthly dosing in 5 sizes from 4 lbs to 132 lbs.
Activyl for Cats and Kittens, 8+ weeks of age offers monthly dosing in two sizes: 2-9 lbs & 9+ lbs.

What are the potential side effects of Activyl?

Individual sensitivities while rare, may occur after using any pesticide product. In cats, accidental ingestion may cause intermittent salivation, licking of the face, shaking of the head, and squinting.

What happens if I miss giving a dose of Activyl?

Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if is almost time for the next regularly scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and apply the next one as directed. Do not apply a double dose of the medication.

What happens if I overdose my pet on Activyl?

Contact your veterinarian or veterinary emergency room.

What should I avoid while giving Activyl to my pet?

Do not use on pregnant or lactating females. Do not use on puppies or kittens under 8 weeks of age. Use the entire contents on each cat or dog and do not split one tube between pets. Weigh your dog to ensure you are applying the right dose formulated for the weight of your dog.

Causes eye irritation. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, or clothing. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling and before eating, drinking, chewing gum, using tobacco, or using the toilet.

If swallowed: Call a physician or poison control center or a doctor for treatment advice. Drink 1 or 2 glasses of water and do not induce vomiting unless told to by poison control center. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. If in eyes: Hold eyes open and rinse slowly and gently with water for 15-20 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present, after the first 5 minutes, continue rinsing. Call a physician or poison control center or a doctor for treatment advice. If on skin: Wash thoroughly with plenty of soap and water. Get medical attention if irritation persists.

What other drugs will affect Activyl?

Certain medications can interact with pesticides. Consult a veterinarian before using on medicated pets.
