What is Activyl Tick Plus?
Activyl Tick Plus is a monthly spot-on flea and tick treatment that contains an innovative new ingredient called indoxacarb to kills fleas, while also containing permethrin to control ticks and reduce the risk of disease. Activyl is fully activated when a flea lands on your pet and is killed using the flea's own enzymes. This brand-new technology is called bioactivation. Activyl Tick Plus is only for dogs and kills ticks, adult fleas, flea eggs and larvae; thereby, breaking the flea's lifecycle.

How it Works:
Activyl works to break the flea's lifecycle by killing not only adult fleas, but also flea eggs and larvae, which reduces the chances of your pet becoming reinfested by fleas. The ingredients are spread through your dog's skin and coat, and when a flea lands on your pet, it takes up the active ingredient of Activyl Tick Plus and causes the enzymes in the flea to change. Activyl Tick Plus then reaches it's full active form and the flea becomes paralyzed and unable to feed. This process is called bioactivation - the newest technology in flea control. How Activyl Tick Plus should be used:
Use Activyl Tick Plus on dogs or puppies 8 weeks of age or older, and over 5 lbs. It is available as 0.51 ml applicators for dogs 4.1-11 lbs, 1.0 ml applicators for dogs 11.1-22 lbs, 2.0 ml applicators for dogs 22.1-44 lbs, 4.0 ml applicators for dogs 44.1-88 lbs and 6.0 ml applicators for dogs 88.1-132 lbs.
To use Activyl Tick Plus:
Hold the applicator in an upright position away from your face and snap the tip by bending it and folding it back on itself. Part the hair and place the applicator tip against the skin on the base of the skull. Applying Activyl at the base of the skull will help prevent your pet from licking the product. Squeeze the applicator firmly and apply the entire contents directly to the skin (for smaller dogs). Do not allow Activyl to run off and do not have contact with the treated area until it is completely dry. Reapply Activyl every 30 days.
For larger dogs: Start applying the contents between the shoulder blades working your way down to the tail while applying Activyl in 2-3 spots along the way. Make sure you thoroughly part the hair on each spot so the applicator touches the skin and not just the fur.
What are the side effects of Activyl Tick Plus:
Individual sensitivities while rare, may occur after using any pesticide product. Do not use on cats, since it may be fatal.
What special precautions are there:
Do not use on pregnant or lactating females. Do not use on puppies under 8 weeks of age or under 4 lbs. Do not allow children to apply product. Use the entire contents on each dog and do not split one tube between pets. Weigh your dog to ensure you are applying the right dose formulated for the weight of your pet. Consult your vet before using on debilitated, aged, or medicated pets. Do not use on pets intended for breeding, pregnant or nursing.
Causes substantial but temporary eye injury. Harmful if swallowed or absorbed through skin. Do not get in eyes or on clothing. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling and before eating, drinking, chewing gum, using tobacco, or using the toilet.
If in eyes:
Hold eyes open and rinse slowly and gently with water for 15-20 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present, after the first 5 minutes, then continue rinsing. Call a physician if irritation persists.
If on skin:
Take off contaminated clothing. Rinse skin immediately with plenty of water for 15-20 minutes. Call a poison control center or doctor for treatment advice.
If swallowed:
Call a poison control center or a doctor for treatment advice. Have a person sip a glass of water if able to swallow. Do not induce vomiting unless told to by a doctor or poison control center. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
In the event of overdose:
Contact your veterinarian or veterinary emergency room.
How should I store Activyl Tick Plus:
Do not remove tube from pack until ready to use. Store in a cool (below 77F) dry place inaccessible to children and pets. Do not refrigerate and protect from direct sunlight.

i had a terrible flea issue after my daughter surprised me with a 5 month old pit, covered in fleas. Needless to say, my cat became infested, as well as my home. after spending hundreds trying to remove them, of course the dog was also allergic, this product cleaned up the whole problem. house and both pets. deff. reccomend. much better for me than frontline, which really doesnt seem the same anymore.

Works great for my dog
We had a lot of struggles with fleas in our house. After paying tons of money for pest control and flea baths etc, this stuff has really saved my peace of mind. I love that it controls the eggs and everything in our house. Have not had any problems with ticks either. We use the feline version for our cat and works great for her as well. Overall, I really like it! I just put it really close to her collar so the 'spot' it leaves is less annoying.

Horrible for ticks
I used this a couple times in 2013, and it was so ineffective I found a huge tick right in the middle of the greasy spot where the product had been applied. This is a waste of money for ticks. Sadly, my vet wouldn't refund the money. Told me to write to the company.

my vet told me this is what she was on as a puppy when she looked at her old vet papers, and she said this was the best so i bought a six pack on 1800 pet meds and used it twice and i always check for ticks here and there and i found 20 in two weeks!! my dog attracts them so that is why i started prevention, and this did not work, then we tried frontline, didn't work, then we looked at her adoption papers and saw she was on advantix at first, tried that , and guess what? after 7 months, of testing kinds, finally something worked. i was dissapointed, my vet lied and i wasted 90$!

Overall: wonderful
My dog has never gone one summer without fleas, even with consistent usage of Advantix and Comfortis. However, with Activyl, I'm so happy to say she is flea-free for the first summer ever in the 5 years I've had her. However, I did deduct a star because I've found 2 ticks on her. It was no big deal; I removed them quickly; however, she has never had a tick prior to using this, so suffice it to say, the tick prevention may not be very effective. Overall though, with only 2 ticks found, I'm more than happy with Activyl.

Amazing for fleas
I've used many products in the past: Frontline, Advantix, Seresto...but nothing has worked as well as Activyl Tick Plus.
Frontline and Advantix don't seem to work anymore against fleas (did they change the formula?)...and my dogs HATED wearing the Seresto collar.
My vet switched to Activyl at the beginning of this year and the results have been great! I haven't seen 1 flea (or tick) all year.
Activyl does leave a wet spot after application, but I simply wash the spots with a damp cloth and brush it out after it dries (at my vet's recommendation).
If fleas are an issue in your area, I'd definitely recommend giving Activyl Tick Plus a try.

I've been using Actyvil Tick Plus on my Brittany (spaniel) since we've had her - 7 months.
APPLICATION
I am very careful to apply it exactly 4 weeks as directed. If needed, I bathe my dog the Saturday before, then apply the medicine on Wednesday, and then do not bathe her again until the following Saturday. I have to bathe her that following Saturday usually to remove the greasy spot.
PROS:
--> No fleas!
We haven't had a flea. We even visited someone who had fleas, and returned back without a single flea on her and I haven't seen one in my house.
--> OK with repelling ticks
We went camping one weekend in June - real camping in a tent, and she didn't get a single tick or flea the entire time. We checked her thinking she would have something, but she was clean.
I have only seen a single tick on her and that was after walking in some particularly heavy undergrowth near a lake. The tick had already bitten her and I had to remove it. I docked 1 star for effectiveness, but I still think the performance of the product is good.
CONS
--> Greasiness
As stated by others, it does leave a greasy spot. It's not terrible with my dog's fur, and I'm usually bothered by that type of thing. It does feel sort of gross if you touch that area. Granted, brittany spaniels have a single coat of fur (and no under coat like german shepherds or goldens), so this may account for the difference in the greasiness.
For me, it does go away by itself, mostly if she rolls around in dirt playing the dirt sort of 'sticks' to it (it looks gross since she's mostly white dog) and then the greasiness sort of dissipates away.
It will go away also with puppy shampoo and water. I usually do this 2 days after application. It's even been as simple for me before as putting some puppy shampoo on a rag and just lathering the area behind her shoulders then rinsing with water - if I don't have time for a complete bath.
When my vet recommended this to us - she did say the most common complaint was the greasiness.
--> Temporary itchiness
It also does seem to make my dog itch a little bit. We really only notice it on the day of application, she'll occasionally stop and scratch - but it doesn't seem to be significantly bothering, and if she had fleas I think she'd be scratching a lot more.
--> Price
Compared to other topical flea and tick medicines on the market, this does seem to be one of the more expensive. I haven't had experience with other topical to know if the price vs. effectiveness is worth it and cannot comment on that.
All in all I'd say it's a product that worth trying.

Great product
I have 3 dogs on this product and love it. The main reason I started it was my Bischon has a problem with flies. The vet started me on this and we have had no fleas for almost a year. He does get a tick once in awhile by his ear same with my Blue healer and Australian Shepard but one once in a month isn't nothing to 5-10 I was getting off of them in a days time. I will keeping using this product as long as I can.

My dog has been on Bravecto for 2 months and still has a month to go, but I think he has fleas. Can I treat him with actively tick plus now?
The Bravecto should work for a full 3 months so you should make sure that new fleas are not being introduced from your pets environment. It should not be necessary to try another medication until 12 weeks have passed since the bravecto dose. The Bravecto is not contraindicated to give with the Activyl tick plus, but maybe it would be good to ask your veterinarian if they think it is necessary or if there might be another factor in eliminating the fleas.

How soon after application can I bathe my dog?
This topical leaves a huge greasy mark on her that she then tries to rub off on the carpet, the furniture, etc. How long after applying can I give her a bath and use shampoo on her? Will the shampoo remove the medication?
My groomer told me that you should wait for at least 3 days before you bathe your dog, and most importantly, make sure that you use a soap free shampoo, otherwise you'll remove the medication.
