What is Trifexis?

Trifexis is a chewable tablet that kills fleas and prevents infestations, protects against heartworms, and treats and controls adult hookworm, roundworm, and whipworm infections. Trifexis requires a prescription from your veterinarian.

For:

Dogs (8 weeks of age and older and weighing at least 5 lbs)

Benefits:
  • Begins killing biting fleas within 30 minutes
  • Kills fleas before they can lay eggs
  • Prevents heartworm disease
  • Treats and controls roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms
  • Artificial beef flavor made from pork liver and hydrolyzed soy
  • Easy-to-administer chewable tablet
How it Works:

Spinosad, an active ingredient in Trifexis, starts to work within 30 minutes to kill fleas and has been proven to kill 100% of all biting fleas within 4 hours. Trifexis also kills flea eggs before they can mature, which helps to end the flea life cycle. Trifexis prevents heartworm disease by killing microfilariae and larvae from maturing into adult heartworms.

Cautions:

Serious adverse reactions have been reported following concomitant extra-label use of ivermectin with spinosad alone, one of the components of Trifexis chewable tablets. Use with caution in breeding females. The safe use of Trifexis in breeding males has not been evaluated. Use with caution in dogs with pre-existing epilepsy. Puppies less than 14 weeks of age may experience a higher rate of vomiting. Consult your veterinarian for pregnant or lactating dogs.

Trifexis is rated 3.7318 out of 5 by 440.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it's supposed to I've had 3 dogs on Trifexis and so far we haven't had any fleas on them after treatment. Even if 1 or 2 manage to stay on the dogs, they move slow, sickly and eventually die. I love it. The dogs aren't affected poorly by it. All in all 3 happy tails.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fills the Need We have been using Trifexis since we got our dog three years ago. She responds well to it and we've had not fleas, ticks, heartworms, etc. She is healthy and satisfied. She does not resist my giving her one pill on the 1st of each month. Our vet in Texas got us started and I requested the same product from our "new" vet in Bloomington, IN. Consult your own vet and read up on its benefits at the Trifexis web site.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Trifexis is a superb drug! I have been using Trifexis for 15 years for my service dog and for our military working dogs. These military dogs can parachute out of helicopters for special operations. NO seizures and NO heart worm, round worms, hook worms or fleas. Our working dogs MUST be healthy. We work with the Auburn University Vet college and they agree that Trifexis is the best at preventing these parasites. All drugs can cause side effects in humans and dogs. But the benefit of preventing these possible deadly parasites vs a few dogs developing seizures is overwhelming. And a seizure does NOT mean your dog will die. It just means you need to change meds. These drugs are potent--they MUST be potent to kill these awful parasites! Keep your dogs safe. Auburn U has done extensive work with Trifexis and there is no better prevention drug! Keep your dogs healthy. Use Trifexis!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the Job So two years of using this product, I like the results because my dog has had no problems at all. The only issue I have is the product (Pill), my pet will not take willingly. I would say only the first time she took it she did so on her own. After that she would refuse to consume the pill. After that I had to physically force it down her throat and if that was too difficult to do I would attempt other methods. I have used Cheese, Peanut Butter and ground up the pill and mixed it into a small amount of ice cream. I will be looking for a new product, hoping for the same results except the process of taking the pill.

Q&A

I still have some but they are over a year old can I still use them

Asked by: veeda
If your dog has not missed any monthly treatments, check the expiration date on your Trifexis to see if it is still good. Most product has an expiration date that is over a year from when our hospital purchases it from the manufacturer.

I have had my local Vet prescribe Trifexis and now he wants $140 refill. Can I scan my last scrip and send it to you for filling?

We will contact your pet's clinic for the approval once you order Trifexis. We can only accept original prescription by mail or the vet may scan or email us the approval. We contact the vet for you once you place the order and most veterinarians respond within 24 hours and your pets prescription will ship out.

Will my dog need to be tested for heartworms yearly while on trifexis?

Asked by: Sharone
Since Trifexis is a prescription medication, your vet will need to perform a yearly exam and any required tests, including a heartworm test, depending upon your state's requirements. In Florida, an annual heartworm test is required.

is it ok to cut the trifexis pill in half or to quarter it but give

but give the full pill cut in half or quartered?
Asked by: Carm
Some dogs tolerate the medication a little better if given it halved or quartered so long as the entire pill is given within an hour or two. Letting the pill "air out" for a couple of hours has been known to improve the palatability of the tablet for those very picky dogs.
